The Dad ran away bcos he knew hed be judged & blamed for his wrong doings. He obviously wanted peace. He knew he blew it but his pride probably made him want to walk away. Rather than feel like a failure he mightve wanted a fresh start. We've all got 20/20 vision in hindsight they say. To take a situation out of the context of the time & place & try to apply the way youve grown & learnt back to those times is futile. Her Dad was younger & knew less about life & his values have changed a bit. It seems over time you can heal. Its no good trying to figure it all out & over analyse the past. Start afresh as the evolved people youve all become.

I am estranged from my siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, but the reality is that they were never my family. I knew this from Day One. This is why I believe in giving up your young children without judgement. If you don't "click" with your child, especially from Day One, you should be able to give them up, the sooner, the better.

Oh this show makes me cry so much! My best friend growing up was male, my cousins, cousin in fact, so to me he was family even though not connected by blood we are connected through our soul. To this day my dearest friend in the world is a guy, we have known each other since babies, but become best friends when I moved to the same city as him when we were both 9. It’s been 45 years of friendship, and although he lives in Australia and I live in New Zealand we still get together and talk regularly. Our children are now very close and we try to have family holidays together and have seen half of the world as a big family. I’m so blessed to have him in my life, the best part, he married my twin flame best friend of 35 years! ❤ I’m so lucky.

EDIT - Never mind with what I said below, she seems to actually respect her son's cultural preferences after I watched them do the experiment. I initially didn't think that'd happen since parents who hurt their children tend to not care about how they feel at all.
8:53 maybe she should've learned to let her son do what he wants to do instead of forcing him to be like her. She should learn to let people be.

I don't know if that's a fair comment. Always put yrself in the others shoes. I'm Australian, if for some reason like work for instance meant I had to move to a foreign non Emglish speaking country like Vietnam or Spain, I'd do as much as possible to embrace their language & culture but I know I'd be asking where are the Aussie ex pats? I know I'd probably divide my time between the 2 cultures. .

@@valeriegood8427 I'm what you can call an expat since I live in a different nation having married a man from here. And yes, your heart will forever be divided because you belong in both places. You learn the language, eat their food, embrace thier culture as much as possible but you'll never be one of them. You'll have a heart dividend in two homes. Beautiful and daunting at times, also complicated when you have kids.
