She was toxic, and my mental health was at rock bottom, so I had to cut her off. She doesn't respect my boundaries, and is constantly trying to get my siblings to talk to me. She sends birthday cards every year, but they go straight in the bin. It's one of her many manipulation tactics. If I tell her to stop, she will treat that as an opportunity to up the harassment. It's really not black and white.

no loving person on this earth would EVER say something like that its because she has a narrowed mind she is not even able to think that she did something wrong youve heard that in her last words as she said her is not strong enough, its not that she wasnt strong enough she knew in her heart it wasnt worth it.

-I think (from the little seen here), that the grandmother and grand daughter both have stubborn ways. The grandmother is indirectly teaching her that she is worthy no matter how peope may see her at a given movement. And that worth MUST be depended on our own inner acknowlegement of our unique beauty (if we give this power to those outside of us we will never be whole). And the granddaughter is teaching the grandmother indirectly that her words, and her status mattered to the point where the hurt of her words devastated her and how she shows up in the world. Words matter when we have close bonds and relationships.
-I like that the dad was able to see the hurt in his duagther, some men do really think they're children are better off without them b/c of self-loathing and not making the mark when it comes to how they show up in the world for themselves and what they ( think), for their families, when the reality is most children just want their company.
-I could also tell that the brother and sister look like twins lol. I could pick up that he loves his sister deeply. Sometimes people close themselves off b/c they are afraid to lose their love again. Its a coping mechanism.

@@alfrichter969 Agree with all but the bad grandma heart. What you're seeing is a generational and cultural divide. It is not a common thing to have people in their 60's and 70's to be openly crying and sharing. Watching several of these, you see the differences in how they were raised. Not that they don't feel, but you don't share that in front of strangers. And lest we forget, there is a television host and an entire crew filming. Likely to be about 8-10 other people in the room with them.
I do think they can work it out, provided the grandma also remembers she's not dealing with her own cultural norms alone and that Belle is not going to be quiet and submissive as she expects. It will take both sides to relent.

from my experience those 2 will never be united. you cant forgive someone if the other side is not aware of mistake. you cannot forgive a person that says i have not done anything wrong, trust me i speak of my own experience with my own mother.
our life was pretty tough mostly because of my mother i have 2 other brothers that almost totally deny her. im the only one of 3 children that still has somewhat of good contact to her. thats because i lived the longest period with her. i understand her the most thats why i can understand her behavior but i can NEVER accept if she tries to change the past for her comfort thats something i absolutely will not accept not even for a second when she is in my presence.

In Belle case, I wonder why her parents are not involved in the reconciliation. The cultural differences and age gap between grandma and grand daughter is too wide. If for some reasons Belle's parents separated and grandma had to look after her, I can imagine the difficulty of raising a so-called "rebellious" child. At the end, the parents are at fault. It is not the grandma's duty to raise the child, resulting in resentment and hurt.

What the grandmother said was inappropriate to say around a child. To "choose" to hold unto a supposed wrong is a!so rather questionable. There is some "adulting" that needs to be done. People will want forgiveness, but will withhold if from the other party and from themselves. To truly forgive, you must release the other party from the past and yourself for holding onto the negative emotion for so long.
