Dad's Ute - It's a 318ci Farm Truck!

- Dad's Ute is cool little farm ute that I inherited from my Dad when he passed away. It was a factory slant six but now it has 318 cubic inches of Mopar Power. It may be a small V8 but it packs a lot of punch.

“Fuck off, bird” almost needs its own T-Shirt and sticker.
Hi there , it"s his fathers car .Have some empathy please
What the actual fuck are you on about… give the try hard white-knight thing a rest, you suck at it.
Nice backstory on dads ute. It's nice to see it being preserved in honour of your father Scotty.❤
Ah the joy of swearing and not have someone telling you that you shouldn't. Keeping it real. Looking forward to seeing how this car comes along. Good to see it again.
Hi there , swearing is always wrong sir
Sounds like a solid plan. As long as you think your dad would be proud, and it makes you happy, do it.
I’m so sorry to hear about your father’s passing. To those who don’t understand car culture, to have your dad’s car after his passing is something to be treasured.
As others have said, fix the rust, paint and make the engine bay nice, and tidy the wiring with some felt loom tape. Small jobs make a big difference. Lastly, maybe think about doing a TBI efi conversion. Looks like carb but runs more reliably
Scotty it’s your tribute and memory of your Dad that story and the preservation of his memory is more important… most of us will be here to watch it whatever you decide to do, thanks and keep up the great work.
Onya Scotty, do whatever pleases you mate, Dad's ute is an icon.
LOVE DADS UTE!!!!
Awesome plan …your all over it
Never personally owned a VF, VG, or S+R, but every other series, and multiples of most of them. VE's remain my favourite. My dad started my Valiant addiction in 1968 when he surprised the family by arriving home in a brand new white with blue upholstery VE Regal sedan. Slant 6 (145HP). That car did over 700,000 miles before he got rid of it. Original engine got replaced around 425,000 miles due to severe blowby and oil losses. Also had one reco replacement trans in the time he had it due to suddenly losing reverse. When I see a white VE especially looking at the front it's an instant trip back to the past.
@@erroneouscode they're certainly hard to kill
That plan sounds good. A great way to honour your dad.
Thanks mate
The old Val's have a place in my heart....believe it or not I was conceived in the back of a Charger....so it seems my ma had taste in cars back in 79....when people ask me am I a Ford or Holden man, my answer always has been... I'm a car guy.....the best cars are the ones that have a story that take some space in your heart.....I'm sorry about the unfortunate early loss of your old man Scotty....at least you have this ute and filling out 2 dreams your dads with Scotty's touch...
Good story telling once again, sorry to hear about your dad. Been watching you for years and you said in the last video about you might make a video about your child hood etc. I'd listen, you have a gift for telling storys
Thanks mate, I appreciate that
I like your plans for dad’s ute. Tidy cruiser with a bit of grunt. Way cool 😎
Build it the way you would like mate. A reliable cruiser, its what we all need in our life 🙂
Dads ute will be awesome however you build it up can't wait to see it evolve
Awesome, really enjoyed this when you chucked in the 318 so looking forward to more on the ute.
Really love this ute, a rare beast especially here in NZ
I think there’s got to be a way you can put some restraints in the back of the ute with some ramps etc so Alex can safely get to cruise in it convertible style. Even if it’s off street at least he gets to ride in it listening to the burble.
Great story.... any footage of your dad with the ute... would like to see that
I'll dig around and see if I have anything with Dad and the ute
I like your plan Scotty. So sorry your dad left before he could see it done. Oh, and I love the sound of your birds.
The plans for the ute sound great scotty, looking forward to watching it come back strong. 💪
Good plan Scott, maybe leave the body & paint as is & do everything else around it. There's something very cool about that ratty look.
Cheers & stay safe😊
Great way to remember your dad, and good that your son gets enjoyment seeing and hearing it.
I watched your big block fit up in it last night, back then you said you'd like it as a column shift auto, but need another column. I reckon you should make it a column shift while your doing the interior. How cool would that be running the 1/4 shifting a mechanical auto off the column.
Great footage of the orange convertible cruising around the paddock Scotty.....
That is my favorite Valiant model. They are a very good looking car, nice clean straight lines. No weird stuff. Back in the 80's a farmer down the road, Old Eddie had a pale blue VC? Valiant ute 273 V8 auto. He used to tow a horse float with it. I worked for him sometimes and got to drive it.
VC V8s were rare and very cool.
VC V8s were rare and very cool.
Yep, I'm in. Love dad's ute.
Ha need the old cap gun in ya pocket for the birds🤣Love the front end styling of the ute. Should throw a shout out to haltech and inject it 👍🍻
Scotty, really loving the new channel.. your back stories to things are very very interesting..
My 2 cents worth(that’s probably all my input is worth anyway lol) don’t repaint it.. all the dents, scratches and imperfections tell a story of the life of the car as well.. give it a good interior upgrade and detail the car then enjoy the car for what it is and the memories it holds..
Also another idea is a good clean up and refresh at Scotty’s garage maybe?
Anyway just some ideas loving the work mate!
I had two slant 6 Valiants in the 70’s, a VE and a VF. Would love to have a Valiant again, there’s just something about them. Great to see your Dad’s VE will be around for a long time to come.
Great plan Scotty !!! Dad would be so proud mate !!! 😜👍🇦🇺
Love hearing you talking about times with ya old man... I can relate totally.... Been 4yrs since lost mine.
As for the ute, go the 392 ;) Its what ya dad wanted... ITs your ute Scotty.. YOU do what YOU want...sleeper... but you knew that
I've always love those Val utes, so solid... give it a good tidy up and go cruise that coffee and smile like a mad bastard.
Subscribed.
Scotty, the way you talk about your son and dad shows what a heart of gold you have.
Your plans for the Ute are perfect. Leave the crazy but good stuff for my favourite previous project of yours - The Trolvo.
A great work in progress worth preserving love 318s😄
Love it Scotty, you’ve got all the right plans for it, enjoy it! 🍻
You’re dad would be proud as punch mate to see the old girl rolling with the V8👍👍🇦🇺👍👍
Totally agreed with the direction of the ute as im getting a lot older i appreciated a stock looking 60*s ute..
Love the story and plans for the ute Scotty! Sounds tough as nails too!
Scotty, I loved seeing your Dad in that convertible, because yesterday (Friday 28th ) I was sitting next to a VF? Val convertible with a V8 & the same style top, but it was a mustard colour. Also I think the lockdown wagon should be a 6 cylinder (245/265) or if it must be a V8, the hemi back at the Carnage workshop. You want that car to smooth & reliable, so you can take Alex driving.
PS l bet the ute will do a 13.000 the first time you run it😂😊.
Aussie history right there my old man used to say there a bit better than holden and fords but I don’t know I had a mate in school who had a AP6 couldn’t kill with a stick old push button automatic we got the girls in it was fun 🤩 back then
Oh wow ... muchly appreciate your own shed / garage, it's a more private place and i love that you explain the stories behind. Always wanted to know a bit more about Dad's Ute, and here we are.
I also own a Dad&Son car, it's an Opel Commodore A GS/E from 1971.
Having lost my parents a couple of years ago I can truly appreciate what this ute must mean to you so I honestly think you’re on the right track with making it just a super clean modest cruiser.
Loving the content mate.
I had a VJ ute long ago, It was badged as a Dodge.(a cheaper version of the Valiant) 215 ci with auto. That ute had no chrome, including painted hub caps, and rubber floor matts. Great old ute, 35000 klm when I got it. Was ex Sydney council. Ultra reliable.
Dodges were bargain basement but good for modifying because there were no extras, like chrome strips, to remove. It would have been a great workhorse
Awesome plan... I've done pretty much the same thing with my dad's brumby... Nice work Scotty
I used to have a Brumby way back in the day
@@blownhemi check out mine.... I'm the brumby guy lol
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Ute. It’s a Nice way to keep your dad’s memory and legacy alive.
Well done Scotty you're doing a great job I'm sure your dad would be proud. Looking forward to seeing more from Scotty's Garage
Great ute, perfect plan. Your dad would love this I'm sure.
That dodge dart you mentioned, a doctor around where I live bought it see it occasionally with a surfboard strapped to the roof 😅
That's cool
Sounds good you do what you think your dad would love 👍🏻👍🏻
Respect to you mate. I had the same ute with the slant 6. In 82 we drove it from Melbourne to Perth and back on our honeymoon..Only broke a speedo cable.
Keep doing you, Scotty. I believe we're all here for the ride with you.
I had a thought, why not turn the lockdown wagon into a car for disabled kids and give them the chance to ride in a high-performance classic. Somehow, modify it for wheelchair access or similar that way you and your son can enjoy it 😊
@johnwalters6025 Given the height of wheelchairs we'd need to start with a much taller vehicle. But it's an idea for a future project.
@blownhemi V8 swap and rwd conversion Kia carnival 😅
So much respect for you mate, very keen to see the process and final result!
Tidying it up and making it a nice tidy cruiser that can hold its own on the strip sounds perfect.
I wonder how it would go with injection on the 318? Holley Sniper might be a good thing to try if you have a couple of grand to spare on it.
You could go further with a Haltec controlled multi point system and still make it look stealthy under the bonnet.
I’d just fix the auto the wiring and the carb then just enjoy the ute! It’s nearly perfect!
You need a sticker on the back. That say Dad's.
A space plate between the caby and manifold. For fuel atimization. Will make it dance. 😂
Plan sounds amazing mate. Can't wait to see it.
Plan sounds good to me. She's a beaut ute. Love these old girls with the story behind it.
Good job Scottie, can’t wait.
I’ve just started my first resto on a VG sedan.
Really excited to watch your progress and grab some handy hints & tips.
Get stuck into it Scotty 👍
Your a good man Scotty👍
Your a bloody legend mate. Great Son and a great Dad.
Thank you
Leave the body work just the way it is. I love originalty
Now that's a real ute..
First job for this Ute is clean up the yard and take all crap to the tip😊
Widened stockies on back of ute with hubbies and dress rims be saweet as Scottie ,love ya work
Sweet, Bet your old man would be stoked with what you all ready done
Nice car Scotty just keep it nice and simple the classic look 👍👍👍
It’s a great car. You’re doing right by it
Thanks mate
Really enjoyed the build series of the 318, they're a decent motor with cam, carb, compression treatment. Good plan for the ute, what works for me is to put a list of jobs on the whiteboard, do one, cross it off and do the next. don't pull it all apart and make it too much at once........ one task at a time.
I have one of the mopar oprhan engines, a 413 big block, it'll be a 426 in the end and going in a street rod.
Keep up the content, the ute is the 80s type street machine we all had and built back in the day
Great memories mate ❤❤
Nice, good to get a decent background on this Ute.
I reckon EFI carby and electronic ignition so you can just enjoy it whenever the itch arises
Great episode. I like the idea of keeping it looking stock. Fix the dints and rust, and a respray. Leave the wheels painted the same colour as the car. Find another hubcap. Make it into another sleeper, like the Lexen.
Small block Mopars have long runners and a high port velocity so they tend to favor large cfm carbs a jet change will help with it loading up at idle there are stroker kits available in the us but unsure about aussie land and sorry about your dad .
I’m a Val lover owning a CM with mild 318 (on my channel). My heads are stock and I’m running a 500 cfm edelbrock carb in which I feel is to small but it does run good!
Made 210hp on the dyno just with a cam and intake and carb and ignition and full exhaust and extractors.
After watching yours I’m thinking about new heads, but which ones and a bigger carby.
Perhaps one day. These things aren’t cheap
Sounds great
Would a zf8hp gearbox fit into it? That would be excellent to see happen.
Scotty with a plan! It's a good solid plan as there's not much on the Aussie Chryslers on YT.
Our neighbour & Dad's old mate was a Holden man through & through but he had a soft spot for Aussie Chryslers. The hemi engines were his fave & especially how he knew to setup & tune the triple Webers. Every hemi engine Chrysler he owned had the triple Weber setup & by god those units would fly down the road! I remember when he bought a VH Ranger XL off a priest & wove his magic over it. I still remember the day he was doing 120kph on the Pacific Hwy & the front end would lift up & give him very vague steering. As a kid it was a scary thing!
Apart from your plans to do dads ute, I would seriously suggest that you start acquiring parts & trim so you can keep it still going. It'll also help the lockdown wagon.
Even my 2 Holden VY utes, parts & trim are getting rare & there's too many meth-heads selling crap at inflated prices.
Great video Scotty, can't wait to see more of the magical Aussie Chryslers.
I really like the plan 👌
Would be nice if a 440 magnum or a 6 pack was used. Maybe a shot of gas as a helper at the strip ….. just thinking the big orange lump in the bay would look outstanding with the original body work. Be a lot of fun to drive….. torque bastard wheel spinning smile monster.
Scotty, He would be proud of you.
Thanks mate
here for the ride
Very cool Ute
Thank you
I agree with your plan Scotty... go for it ... :)
Keep it a clean cruiser.
So what you're essentially saying is, you'll be doing things to Dads Ute to make it more of a drivable Car. WOW! That's a great idea, don't think I've ever heard that said on a TH-cam video, let alone done 😂😂❤❤
Haha, how many youtubers make their cars nicer to drive?
Sounds good only think I'd love to see is a 390ci stroker build
100% do a closed door respray on Dad’s Ute. Looking forward to seeing you doing some bodywork!
I think if you pulled low 12s you’re dad might get back up. Great tribute keep it up Scottie.
In my younger years, l bought a very rare 73 VJ E55 Charger interceptor from my bro when l was 15..best car l ever had. That had a warm 318 Fireball/727Auto. It was real fast too. That's what l was driving when l got my license.
E55 should have been a 340 auto, and yeah, that would have been fast
It is a cool car. Bit before my time so theres alot i don't know about Vals. Amazing a coastal car of this age not having holes in it from rust. My Father had a 70s holden kingswood station wagon when i was kid and it was a great car but the rust killed it in the early 90s and it was almost worthless at the time. Apparently he also had a 1961 V8 dodge phoenix too before he got married to my Mother.
I’m quite enjoying the new Scotty’s Garage, but I would like to see the story about Scotty’s childhood!
I reckon it would look good with the body tidy up like you propose, but chuck on a nice set of 17 or 18 inch modern wheels to compliment the classic lines of the car.
Aussie A body Val Utes have a special place in my heart :-) and its nice to see the humble 318 getting some love as well, From memory you put a Torqueflite 904 over drive box in the Ute? and it was a bit of a hassle...
Wonder how she'd go with a Holley Sniper or Terminator X Fuel injection setup, VPW have them for Aussies and they seem awesome value and with the changing pump Gas/fuels we suffer I reckon it'd futureproof the Ute nicely and add some horsepower tunability too.
Maybe a Dodge Dart front end makeover too.............
Not an overdrive, but it does have a lock up converter
@@blownhemi Oldtimers got me lol
Looking forward to the diag on that issue
Maybe a fatter Torque grind cam with say Edelbrock or Holley injection a self learning unit .
Thinking more Torque make dads ute a real stump puller too lol
Great content! How about a new catch phrase at the end like “see ya next weekend at Scotty’s Garage”.
Nice, I like it
How good is this, that's it. 😁
Do it for Dad (not Dale). Sometimes you just have to do it for the memory of someone first and foremost. Cancer got my mum 10 weeks after first being diagnosed, and had a damn good go at getting me too, but after telling it to fock off twice, I think I finally have it beat. While my progress has been slow I have dedicated my remote control mower build to mum for personal reasons.
@DodgyBrothersEngineering I hope you're doing better, mate. Cancer is shit. It's taken way too many family members. Of my Dad's seven siblings, only four are left, and two of those have had their own bouts with Cancer.
@@blownhemi I am all good now thanks, but it has taken its toll both physically and mentally on me. Even if you kill it, that doesn't put back the bits they cut out, or bits they have to radiate, so life is never the same after it. But we have to move on and deal with the hand we are dealt. As you say life sometimes gives us lemons, so we crank out the best lemonade we can.
Loving the respawning of Scotty’s Garage, especially how you talk about lot more about your son; it’s truly inspirational 🔥
That red Val convertible had full wog chariot potential. Do you know what happened to it?
lol I hear on the birds i have one that in the winter is in the shop when the door is open and is always going off its head singing away every time i am trying to talk lol
EFI it Scotty !!!!
