- It's been some time since the public has been able to try out Monster Hunter Wilds for the first time at Gamescom and PAX. Some lucky creators were also invited for exclusive hands-on time.
Today myself, @PeppoLS @rurikhan @Shincry @Nyx_MH and @dj_j0nny talk about our first impressions after trying the Gamescom build, discuss very topics regard Monster Hunter, and our expectations going forward.

pretty good discussion, the best part was everyones hype. I really hope we have alot more streamers for wilds cause i feel that is what helped the social aspect during world with all the big and small streamers having 16 player lobbies it really helped and make it feel like world didnt have a region lock even tho it did.
With the amount of hype surrounding the game, I'm pretty sure a lot of content creators will be interested in the Monster Hunter series, especially with Wilds!
To your guys' point about being scared of a monster, I was terrified of fighting any monster in base Rise. I used to play a hit and run style with SnS and IG especially against the 3 star and above monsters
Was base Rise your first MH or was this just how your general experience was? Has your general gameplay style changed since? Curious 👀
Yea I dunno if removing shaprness is a good idea, but Peppo is right in that if it's already free it might as well be removed. That said, sharpness is suuuch a good system that very few games have that I would probably stop playing the game entirely if it wasn't part of MH.
The fact that I need to consider the level of my weapons sharpness is something I entirely adore, and that only works if sharpening your weapon is a thing.
I just hope the devs really understand the problematic nature of using items on your Seikret and adjust it to a degree, no need to remove it, just make it so it's not possible 100% of the time.
100% agreed. The sharpness system is one that I find synonymous with MH and would find it weird if it ever disappeared. That said MH devs should definitely consider the balancing of pros vs cons of utilizing the Seikret
@@NightsideGaming I heard that while you're grabbing stuff on the Seikret that it is even auto dodging... that of course takes away some risk of using the Seikret. On the other hand, we've had Farcasters which are pretty risk free (and can even be used to dodge attacks).
Then there is your handler restocking the Seikret - it would be very reasonable if this is strongly limited, i.e. there are areas on the map and attack phases of monsters where the handler will stay clear due to the danger or because it is hard to reach.
I don't see a problem being able to restock after the monster left and you're running after it. You could just fast travel back to camp and run a bit more if that feature wasn't there. But there need to be some limiters in combat for sure.

Even if changing area isnt as free its still super free imo so like sharpening and healing and stuff hasnt really been hard before unless it was a arena fight
Great discussion. You all did a great job making sure everyone had a chance to speak / not talking over each other (much), especially with 6 people. It did seem a bit quiet to me, the TH-cam ads that play all seem to be 2 times the volume.
I think the scout flies are a better tracking system than paintballs. Scout flies help you find the monster rather than paintballs that show you where the monster is once you've found it. Psychosyrum feels like a band aid for a bad system that often had a player running around a map for ages unable to find a monster. I do agree the Pink Rathian and Elder Dragon tracking quests could kill the games pacing if you didn't want to hunt other monsters before moving on with the story.
I think that Scoutflies are good and appropriate for the current generation of MH especially with the maps so large. I think in older games, paintball/psychoserum was still fine because you had zones. IIRC spawn locations for monsters didn’t change but if they jumped out of the zone or used a shortcut, it could definitely be confusing and a huge hassle to find the monster especially if you weren’t familiar with the monster… and if your paintball wore off
I kinda miss that system because it felt like you were actually hunting/tracking but if the Scoutflies were reworked a bit, I think we could get the best of both of worlds
@@NightsideGaming I hope Capcom will find a good balance for tracking, Rise/Sunbreak felt like it was missing something without it.
BTW people Ruri said it, play what you like and everyone is different. Having said that Great Sword is best sword!

I'm super worried that Monster Hunter Wilds will be too easy. I hope they bring the 🔥 on release.
I don't think it will be super difficult since that's the whole point of the expansions. I do hope the difficulty ramps up earlier though
I'm sure it'll be fine for the release but one can never be too sure!

They really should make it that the Seikret is more skittish when large monsters attacks near them, maybe slightly late in responding to calls or mounting cuz ya know, real world mounts arent as passive
Yeah theyre large beast or burden birds like Chocobos, but since their role is very much auxilliary and non-combative
Make it that they move around alot trying to distant themselves from the fights
Not sure how well thats do the cave areas, but eh
Or maybe theyre are as likely to be targeted by raging monsters, causing them to outright flee away from the area
i think that'd be interesting change, definitely more towards the direction of immersion. wonder if that's something they'd ever consider implementing

Paintballs I fell like they will be used to know wich monster you are hunting, as there will be multiple of the same one

To the multiplayer thing, I started playing monster hunter 4U sometime after World dropped. I played only solo, clear through the main story. Then I got a switch and got GU, played it solo for 150 hrs. Got Rise directly after it dropped, played solo clear through Sunbreak (my friend would join me here and there). Then got World/Iceborne with a friend and have killed every monster with him, go his brother to join us, if we don't fill in that 4th spot by wilds we'll prolly play online.
Do you feel as a solo player you’ve ever been challenged or do you think it’s been relatively easy for you?

Does anyone know if the Star system is related at all to Alpha monsters? Like, are Alphas always a high star count?
Personally I'm not too sure but there's supposed to be something like that in between the different weather periods.

could be a way to balance the fact that sharpening on seikret is insanely free
Using whetstone in old gen feels like you're rubbing your weapon with a cheese though and it looks very unrealistic
@@NightsideGaming maybe thwyll do somwthing outrageous and makes sharpness drain like 50% slower, but aharpening takes 2 times longer than usual and can only be speed up to gen 1 MonHunt base sharpening duration😅😅
Also since them ranged weappns have certain *unlimited coatings and ammo now

Absolutely enraging to listen to you guys frothing at the mouth at everything full shill mode and then towards the end you all start showing its not all positives. I don't know what to take from this other than you could only be disingenuous for so long. There is absolutely nothing exciting about this entry its literally WORLD 2. The player commitment rates KEEP getting lowered game after game this isnt anything new though you all act as if its a BIG change for the series no they continue pushing that needle more and more and the monsters just become bigger punching bags with MORE and MORE HP. The skill system is insanely inflated the Crit on weapons is one of the most R worded peices of S I have ever seen in a video game. 100% Crit ?????? They will continue pushing this garbage and all the content "creators" aka noise makers will just praise everything and have copium for the concerns they are too afraid to actually engage with in a real discussion all surface level noise. The only logical discussion in this 3 hours of utterances was the conversation of player scaling. And even then none of you could come up with an actual proposed solution or idea, just OLD GAME DID THIS I LIKE. We have all been going through QOL changes to this series since FREEDOM 1 so don't pretend this is anything new the series continues to go into this direction and for you to have the audacity to discuss that NEW PLAYERS HAVE SO MUCH TO LEARN when we are all here millions of F ing players here to show as proof we are all capable of learning the game bit by bit. TO PRETEND THAT this series FRONT LOADS information to the player is simply nonsense especially when you compare to some more moderately complex games like Path of Exile. What a waste of time 10/10
