    My friend have this Pioneer mosquito magnet and had it for years, it has killed almost whole population of mosquitoes around his house and the neighbours houses (4 houses with big yards) and close to forest. We bought the same model and used it 1 year, and we reduced about 50% of our mosquitoes and gnat population. But it takes almost 3 years to kill mostly of whole populations. We like it. A PK10 gasbottle lasts approx 21days and R-Ocetenol almost the same. But we only uses this may-october here in Sweden.

      Thank you so much for commenting, I think your comment will be so beneficial to those looking at buying one. We definitely think it is worth it, we actually bought a second one, because we have a large property.

    I'm one of "those people" who can be outside with friends---everyone is having a great time and I'm frantically running away from the mosquitos. I dated a guy with a forrest-y yard. I could not be outside after sun down or I'd be eaten alive. Everyone would be out by the pool enjoying drinks and I would have to sit inside :( He got the large mosquito magnet and for the first time I was able to really enjoy sitting outdoors - it works.

    It is a good machine. A friend of our had one of hear that reduced the amount of bugs around his home. How do you notice the change in the amount of bugs when your outside.

    • @HiddenBlessingsHomestead
      @HiddenBlessingsHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When we had it down at the kennel near the swampy section, we noticed the bugs were great down there compared to near the house where we didn't have one, so we bought a second one for us lol.

    We noticed a difference the first week we had it down at the kennel, we have since moved it up near the house, so I will have to see, so far there seems to be mosquitos here, but I know with how many its sucking up, there must be an improvement.

      Yes it definitely helps, I'd like two lol, the more the merrier. I also found something called KONK I use it in my dog kennel, wish I'd known about it sooner, you could put it in an entrance or porch if you find they are getting into the house that way. I love being in the woods, but the bugs are definitely a trial.

    We had a Mosquito Magnet years ago. It was hands down the best purchase we ever made. It stopped workingafter about 8 years and we tried a different type without the propane tank. It doesn't work worth a crap.
    When it was working, it eliminated the mosquitoes in our yard and in our neighbors yards.
    I would absolutely recommend this product.

      Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We have had ours now for a while ( I believe this will be our 3rd year) and we are still very happy with it, we also tried less expensive devices before getting this. We were so happy with our Mosquito Magnet that we bought two lol. We have a very large property.

    would have been informative to state how much it costs to keep it running or how much you actually have to run it. Id assume after a month you can switch it off for a while as the mosquitos are diminished. We need an update on that. How much cost per year to keep it running. or cost per month etc

    I thought this would be a great gift for my daughter but after looking at the reviews on Amazon there were so many that said that this is expensive to run and it doesn't work and it breaks down and terrible customer service. They said the old liberty magnet system was a lot better. I'm curious to know if this mosquito magnet plus is still working efficiently and the cost of it to run. So many bad reviews on the magnet plus. I hope you respond to this message to give me your update on this. Thank you

    • @HiddenBlessingsHomestead
      @HiddenBlessingsHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen mixed reviews not sure why some machines seem to have problems. So far so good for us. You have to put it out when they are first out and in the right spot but we really like it. It's about a tank a month, plus the attractant, make sure that is not old as it will not work, I think some stores hold onto it too long. I can't speak to compare it to the older machine sorry. We actually bought a second one because we liked the first so much. One for us, one for our dogs lol

    • @HiddenBlessingsHomestead
      @HiddenBlessingsHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I it doesn't seem to, I think they are just too small. If you have sand flies don't leave your lights on and an open window in that room they are attracted to the light at dusk. Maybe I would try a bug light? as they are attracted to light.

    Hi! Thank you for your video and the ton of information you give here on the comments.
    We have our first summer in Sweden and the mosquitos are so bad that we have nothing from our 4000qm garden -.-
    You said that it's important to not use to old octenal. Is there a date of expiry on the package?
    Thank you and greetings from Sweden :)

    • @HiddenBlessingsHomestead
      @HiddenBlessingsHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello from Canada and thanks for watching. We ordered our Octenol online on Amazon this time, as I think sometimes the stores sit on it and it gets old. We have had no problems with the stuff bought on line, works great! We never noticed a best before date and unfortunately threw the package away so I can't check :( All the best in your efforts to kill those pesky skitters. We also use bug jackets out in the garden if it gets too bad, and sleep under canopy bug nets, it gets intense here for a little while every year.

      Sorry it took me so long to answer, but we weren't quite sure at the time. We just ran out of our first 30lb tank for this season, so I would say about a month. The bag is a screen so you just clean it out and put it back, seems to hold up well.

      @@HiddenBlessingsHomestead We have had two throughout the years-the first lasted almost 10 years? The second (Patriot) has been quite temperamental… Besides filling up our 3 propane tanks with fresh propane and purchasing new batteries every summer, the starting up process is ALWAYS a chore… We also use the valve clearing cartridge. No matter what, the lights will flash either telling us “low battery” or a propane issue. This will go on and on and on until you either give up for the day, or it randomly decides to turn green… Very frustrating to say the least, since we take extra care of the machine! As I stated in my original post, the machine works wonders when operating, but WAY too temperamental as far as getting started- unacceptable as far as I’m concerned.

    You had me until you revealed you thought killing 6,400 mosquitos over 2 weeks was a large amount. This wouldn't even put a small dent in the population at my homestead in Maine. Does it work? Sure. effectively? Not enough for the woods.

    • @HiddenBlessingsHomestead
      @HiddenBlessingsHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We absolutely have a huge amount of bugs here, and I give you that it won't eliminate them, but we did notice a huge difference in the area it was in. We put it near a wet area at the back behind the house a ways back, where they were awful, and it became manageable where as at the front of the house they were still terrible. You do have to weigh it out, but for us any way we can eliminate bugs we are happy. Keep in mind that each mosquito can lay up to 200 eggs, and at that rate in one generation we eliminated 1,280,000 eggs in just two weeks. Plus the number could actually be a lot higher as the weight to mosquito ratio I used to count was for alive not dehydrated mosquitos. Also foggers are illegal here in Canada so we do what we can ;)

    • @TekkWolf
      @TekkWolf ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HiddenBlessingsHomestead of course it is, how you Canadians tolerate your authoritarian government is beyond me. But if you were comparing dehydrated mosquitoes to live weight I bet that number is way more. $500, (the current price of the smaller magnet), is such a huge upfront cost for something that "might" reduce the mosquito population however for me.
      Thank you for your videos and thank you for your reply, God bless!
