Digitigrade works for most animals, as it refers to walking on your toes. Alternatively, it could also be unguligrade, referring to walking on hooves. Humans (and bears) are plantigrade, walking on flat feet.
I remember, from a few years back, when me and a friend went on a full blown investigation to figure out how to make the perfect moc of Makuta from the movies (I would take the legal route, while he would go for a more artistic route where illegal techniques would be used). We’d examine every scene Makuta appeared in with a fine-toothed comb to get whatever details we could, and while it wasn’t what we were looking for it was interesting to find the inspiration for Makuta’s movie design when my friend dug up the concept art and prototype build. You’re model based on the Makuta’s prototype looks so much better than the version that released all those years ago. And also I really like that it resembled the movie version more. Movie design Makuta is so dark, creepy and imposing
Tried my hand at building this guy this week. Made some improvisations here and there but I’m in love with the sheer bulk of this version. They probably scrapped the design because his midsection is literally supported by 3 axel pieces, as well as to get the piece count down to make him more affordable.
Honestly, I would also try to see if you could use the Nuva legs as arms, because in MoL the animators used those for his arms, and I think would also help with the proportions of him.

Hopefully that prototype set was at least bought by someone who could tell what it was and how valuable it is, it would be a shame if it was bought by someone who had no idea and just did their own stuff with the pieces
I love how mysterious makuta was back in the days at school. Even with the movie out no one had the Makuta set back then and the movie was all we had to go from. I found him terrifying in the movie and he was always a mystery to us.
It’s so fascinating looking back at the prototype that came into light couple of years ago and also when we finally got the build for the makuta miserix. Thanks so much for the video! It was really really interesting to hear your thoughts on the prototype. Did you perhaps mace a piece list for the prototype tall makuta?
i look at the way the knees work on this thing and the only thing that gets me is remembering how easy some of those rahkshi shell pieces would pop open.
never liked Makuta's mask in the movie so I'm glad we ended up getting what we got in the official release anyway. I like the animal/alien look the official mask has compared to the blocky humanoid face, the movie mask just comes off as more stereotypical
I’m glad I’m not the only one who prefers the set Kraahkan to the movie one. People are always trying to replicate the movie one to make their Makuta Mocs “more canon accurate” but I always just thought he looked silly in the movie, not how I’d imagine the master of shadows to be. The real piece is much more intimidating in my opinion
I think you could stand to swap out his head to give him red eyes, like in the movies. I never understood why the original Makuta toy had blue eyes on a red head.
Sidenote on the Krana-powered Rahkshi? That must have been a thing fairly long in development; In the game, the Rahkshi actually still have the masks over the slugs. Even weirder, the movie had Kraata, but the game had a Makuta modeled off the toy, rather than that prototype.
Will you be releasing instructions for this one? I’ve always loved the way Teridax looked in Mask of Light and wasn’t a massive fan of the release model
For the Pohatu nuva weapon you can actually use the hand piece of the Bionicle minifigures to attach it to the leg. That way you can skip the whole construction
Despite what some people say i'm pretty sure the prototype mask was a kitbash of a vahi and a mata pakari. If you look at the concept art, the movie model, and even the second face on the released set mask it's pretty clear.
Wow your final design looks great! I always thought the movie head was made from a bohrok head peice so it’s neat to see it used the nuva mask I can pause and study it but do you happen to have instructions for this and what extra peices are needed?
Something I wonder about is how the actual Kraahkan design was made/chosen. Apparently they liked the face on top aspect of the prototype, but what is that face supposed to be?
This version is actually a lot cooler than the official release version. It was most definitely the stability that made them change it. I'd like to make this for myself, but titan pieces are a lot harder to get spares of than canister pieces.
Awesomeness! Man, I love these movie masks people have been making, I really need to get one. Did you make yours with 3d printing as well? Or did you sculpt it by hand?
I'm so torn here because I like how much taller and more imposing this is but the case for stability is a great one to make, if only those 2006 pistons existed in 2003 we probably could have had the best of both worlds. Or the friction joints in '04 but those age very bad. The final legs do look kinda silly especially in conjunction with his lanky arms. A middle ground with the ratchet joints would have nice because those definitely help him keep a solid stance, if they connected via the balls on the Rahkshi back I'd never get him to stay standing. Points to the final thing for bulk though, if nothing else he does look a lot more solid
Model used in the movie always look imposing and really cool. Unlike the physical version. I always found it loook ugly as hell x). Glad the concepts are out there. All the movie models are great to be honest. Especially the Rakhshi.
You missed a few things. The mask that is supposed to be glued to the vahi is a normal pakari not a pakari nuva. That way you can easily see the resemblence to how his mask looks in the film. There is no version of his legs that uses "32173" as the lower leg. It is 2 rahkshi backs connected by 2 "32172". It makes him incredibly unstable, much more so than in your video. I do like your version though, minus the custom mask.
yeah, one of the theories is that the nuva just ended up in the pile of parts and was sold with it with no clear way to identify what was actually supposed to be there or not at the time incidentally its actually feasible to attach the vahi and pakari without glue using others pieces to build a mount for the vahi, but its not the most stable arrangement and you are still sacrificing a yahi unless you want it to be gold or orange, both quite feasible though
As Syntax said, the Slizer piece in the concept art is pretty good evidence in my eyes that it was supposed to be there at some point. I imagine it just got lost when the second legs were being trialled. As for the mask, I guess we will never know exactly how things played out. You're right that the concept art is clearly a regular Pakari, but the Pakari Nuva in the photo has clearly been sprayed black, and I cant imagine why anyone would do that unless they were giving the two pieces a coat of paint after fixing them together. But mysteries and speculation is kinda what makes these things fun, no?
