      @Softlol 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      this is way better than hearthstone. Yeah right now a few 10 cards are high price $5-$20. But in time all cards will drop. And you can build meta decks for probably $5. While in heartstone you would need to buy at least 50 packs, and then get some luck to get legendaries, so you can dust them for other cards.

      @fossgrim You are obviously not a proficient HS arena player, I grinded all legendaries in knights of the frozen throne in the arena without buying anything. If you manage to get an average winrate of 6.0 arena pays for itself and you even have spare gold for extra packs and additional dust which can be spent on the cards you actually want to have.
      In artifact on the other hand you have to recycle cards to gain more draft keys, which would be like spending dust for arena in HS.
      The monetization in artifact is really the worst of any online card game ever and I managed to build all meta decks in HS and a lot of fun decks without spending a dime, all it takes are long arena grinds and Artifact is missing exactly that, therefore it is a pure credit card game unlike HS.
      Missing dailys is terrible as well.

    • @Softlol
      @Softlol 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@meinname8511 You can't expect most HS player to get an average winrate of 6.0 in arena. And I would rather buy a deck for $5 instantly, then be forced to grind for it for 10+ hours or so. Is $5 really worth that much time for you?

  • @the1onlynoob
    @the1onlynoob 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Quick math comparison:
    32 dollars for axe,
    32 dollars is about 23 packs in hearthstone, which is 115 cards with at least 23 rare cards if you have the worst luck. Average card packs yield 103 dust according to statistics, which means you only need 17-18 packs of continuously unlucky to craft any card in the game.
    Taking that math no card in hearthstone cost more than 24-25 dollars ever.

      It has real value in that card you stupid fool, it means you can resell it to get real money. It can also be a kind of investment because card value will go up or down. What you get for spending money in fartstone? When you quit that game all your money spent is gone

    • @awesometown1000
      @awesometown1000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The difference in my opinion is that if you buy 23 packs, you aren’t guaranteed to get what you want. With this, at least you know what you’re getting.
      60 bucks for a fake card is ridiculous tho.

    • @hogmuncher
      @hogmuncher 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@zentumaisle5925 the problem with your statement is you are very dependant on the state of the game. The worth of your card changes a lot and the "value" you have is only steam currency its not actual money. It is risky to depend on being able to resell cards for their value since most of the time their worth is dependant on meta changes. This is where a different problem comes in which is balancing. You can't actually nerf or buff cards since that would decrease or increase their value. This means there is going to be a very stale environment around many cards or there is going to be new card releases which changes up the worth of your old cards drastically meaning you can lose a lot of steam currency this way. It makes for a very unhealthy stock market type card economy.

    • @maxwellsope1080
      @maxwellsope1080 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Average card packs don't yield 103 dust. I don't know who opened how many packs and did the calculations but if you open like 20-30 packs you will find that the average card pack yields like 40-50. See the average yield depends on how many card packs you open. If someone opens like 100+ packs or if someone gets lucky then that will have different average dust yield. Also by having the worst luck would mean that you get 23 rare cards and the rest only commons then that would yield 920 dust based on all 23 packs. That is not enough for even a single legendary. Besides only few legendary cards in artifact are that expansive but in hearthstone every legendary is as expansive as dusting about 50 card packs.
      TL;DR you don't know that the average yield is 103 dust per pack.

    The Steam Item Trade Act Mobile Authenticator or the Abolition of the Steam Item Trade Act 2016, was an Act of the Parliament of Steam passed on 1 April 2016, with the title of "An Act for the Abolition of the Steam Item Trade". The original act is in the Email Comfirmation. The act abolished the Steam Item trade in the PC Empire, in particular the Steam Item trade, and also encouraged Steam action to press other gamers states to abolish their Steam Item trades, but it did not abolish trades itself. Many of the supporters thought the Act would lead to the death of trading, but it was not until 2 months later that trading itself was actually abolished. Trading on PC soil was unsupported in Steam law.

Is the game expensive, yes, is hearthstone expensive, yes! Is instantly maxing a clash of clans base expensive, hell yes. The problem many people have is that we like to play games and earn stuff, my time for their imaginary crap, and i cant do that in Artifact.

    This game has a JC Penny problem, where they created a pricing model that is actually beneficial to consumers, but the consumers are so addicted to exploitative models that they actually believe they are being ripped off.
    There are several misconceptions about the pricing that I'll cover here.
    #1: No rewards: It's true that there's nothing to earn in this game, and that's arguably one of its best aspects. This game decided not to put players in a skinner box and be more upfront with the cost of cards. If there were free rewards being handed out, people could create extra accounts to milk them and scum the market, destroying the value of all collections. The point of having a collection of value, allows you to trade the cards you don't play for cards of similar values. This allows you to piece together meta decks on a budget, and ultimately is a far cheaper system then Hearthstone/Shadowverse. Instead of grinding in-game currency for months on end just to get one rare card, this game instead asks you to play for the fun of it and hands you draft mode right off the bat. If you play games for their progression systems rather than the content, you might have to ask yourself why you play at all.
    #2: You have to pay to play after buying the game: This is blatantly false. Arguably the most engaging feature of card games is draft, and you can play that infinitely for free here. This is easily worth the price of admission alone in my opinion. For constructed, there is a menu for free play that matches you up with random players of a hidden elo/mmr. You can also play directly with your friends easily, and even use their decks! It's as if your friend handed you their deck from across the table like any other CCG. This is a first for an online card game and really allows you to get more out of your collection. The only thing you would have to pay for is $1.25 for a ticket that allows you to attempt to win 5 games without losing two, and gives you prizes for winning 3+. It's pretty easy to win at least three, and that refunds you the ticket! Anything more wins you packs in addition to a ticket, so it's really simple to stretch value out of that ticket if you do decide to pay. You could additionally buy 20 cards that cost five cents, and turn them into a ticket, costing you only a dollar. This price is really reasonable, and maintains the value of everyone's collection as it gives the cards you could win a price.
    #3: This game is expensive: Reporters have mathed out that you could buy every copy of every card in the game for $300. This is an amazing deal for a CCG but it is also a ridiculous hypothetical. No player needs every card to be competitive, and you start with a serious chunk at the outset.
    There is a serious force that keep prices in check as well; every pack of cards contains at least one card of the highest rarity. So the supply of rare cards is large enough that they have a hard limit on how high their price can climb. For the history of this game this feature is intended to keep meta deck prices (from scratch) within $30 - $50. Compare this to Magic where meta decks can cost hundreds.
    But the most important thing to note about this is you can straight up trade cards you already have FOR 85% OF THEIR MARKET VALUE. Compare that to dusting systems in other card games that likely give you 1/8th to 1/10th of the currency (that you can only spend within that game). New card set coming out? Sell them for money, and snipe the meta cards with it. Your collection will depreciate orders of magnitude less than say Hearthstone or Shadowverse where a new set drops the value of your collection by nearly exactly the ratio of new cards introduced. This is because you can't trade or sell those cards, period.
    If you haven't gathered by now, I see this monitization as a fair and positive development in the loot-box skinner-box paradigm we're normally subjected to. And if you think of the pros it offers, and why they made the decision to try it as opposed to proven methods, I hope you'll see it that way too.
    Finally I have to mention what's bringing people to this game in the first place. The gameplay is not a 'dumbed down for mobile' spin on CCGs. It takes advantage of mechanics that could only work in digital to add interesting decisions - instead of adding excessive randomness to generate hype youtube compilations. What you are left with is something that could potentially rival Magic in a few sets, finally bringing the best aspects of card games into the modern era.
    I'm obviously really excited about this game, and I hope people give it a fair chance to succeed.

    Only people defending this game are people who don't understand that the Steam Marketplace is terribly flawed and that this business practice is really just uninviting to any casual player... You pay for the game but then if you want to play the game FOR REAL you have to pay even more. This works for physical card games due to collectability but with a digital model there is literally nothing tangible. And also not ignoring the fact that you play it to queue against other players for quick back-to-back matches so the casual experience is really bad because you're gonna need to play meta for a decently enjoyable experience, at least from what I gather of the matchmaking system so far

      so if i buy a pack in hearthstone (cant talk about MTG since i never played it) how is hearthstones monetization model fair ? you buy packs for realmoney, and get dust back, while in Artifact you buy the cards, and can get back some of that money :/
      you basically waste money on hearthstone as soon as you quit, while in Artifact you can not only get packs for free, but also play draft mode for free infinitely and get a pack everytime you hit 4-2 getting cards you can proceed to sell on the stema market to get more revenue :/

All it does is invite more toxicity because you get people claiming they ought to be a higher MMR than they really are, or that they always face off against smurfs, or some other contrived conspiracy theory. It happens in Dota all the time.
      As long as Artifact has open qualifiers for it's official tournaments, I see no reason for people to see their MMR for matchmaking purposes, because more often than not, the people that actually give a shit about MMR will never even attempt to enter an actual tournament.

A ranking of some kind would be a benefit and actually give a person a reason to keep playing the game.
