I've had my g1 since 2013. Upgraded to 16 GB of ram and added (3) Sandisk Extreme SSD 2TB units. Not one problem in all of these years! THX for your videos!

Now that is some longevity. Is that a SFF unit?

Is there a difference between the screws that hold the drive to the caddy for the different generations of the minis or are they all the same??? My G4 came with a caddy but no screws for the drive itself...

I think I talk about screws in my caddy video but I went and checked my G2, G3, G4 to confirm. The G2 screws are much longer and can't be used on G3/G4 - the G3/G4/G5 screws are all interchangeable - including the caddy and SATA cable screws.

@@handmedowntech I understand what you said in your video about the screws that hold the caddy to the motherboard and the screws that hold the cable... I was wondering about the screws that go into the drive itself and align the drive in the caddy???

@bjshertenlieb gotcha. The ones for the G2 seem to be different than the G3, G4 ones. To be honest I tend to just use a simple screw to hold the drive in place since I moved the SSDs around from unit to unit. Those damping screws are really only useful for mechanical drives. The lightweight SSDs can really just be held in with a single screw.

Just saw a EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini w/i5 8500T, 16gb ram, no Wi-Fi, no SATA Caddy (also no cable) for about 100 USD.
The USB 3.2 10Gbps and Type C port that come with the Q370 chipset seem like a nice side grade from the H370 on my Optiplex 3060M.
I was wondering if the SATA cables are the same from a G2 or G3 compared to the G4. Like would it work if I get the cable meant for a G2 or G3 that on a G4.
I see the G4 cable for ~8 USD, cable & caddy for ~18 USD (too expensive for me). While a G2/G3 cable is 4~5 USD.
From what you mentioned in the video it would though mounting a 2.5" SSD is gonna be something else without a caddy.

Personally I would look for the caddy and cable combo. I've been able to find those closer to $10. Make sure they include the screws. I may talk about the cables in the video. Normally best to use the indicated cable to reduce compatibility issues.
