@@jollybell5452 I agree with you that stress management and relaxation is really important and often overlooked! That said, asthmatics have a condition where the passages in their lungs squeeze too tightly. The tunnels in our lungs are surrounded by tiny muscles. These constrict and relax in response to many factors, and normally they work great! Hello!….I,m post menopausal, take medications that dry my throat out. I studied to be a singer and gave concert many years ago and want to sing for pleasure. I need help….. I also suffered from performance anxiety and when I sing my throat feels tight. I really would love to sing again. Recently, people have said that I I have a great voice! Help please🙏🎶
Hello! It's wonderful that you have a passion for singing and that people recognise your talent. Remember, there is always time to pursue something that brings you joy. As a post-menopausal singer with a dry throat, you can still overcome these challenges and continue to share your gift with others. Here are a few tips to help you along the way: 1. Hydration: Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially before and after singing. This will help keep your throat lubricated and reduce dryness. 2. Vocal exercises: Warm up your voice with gentle vocal exercises before singing. This can help relax your vocal cords and alleviate any tightness in your throat. 3. Breathing techniques: Deep breathing exercises can help you manage performance anxiety and stay relaxed while singing. Remember to take slow, deep breaths to calm your nerves and maintain control over your voice. 4. Consult a voice coach: Consider working with a professional voice coach if you're serious about singing again. They can help you with your technique, breathing, and other aspects of your performance. 5. Please take your time: Don't rush yourself; you can move ahead at your own pace. Being patient and kind to yourself is essential as you rediscover your passion for singing. 6. Find a supportive community: Join a local choir, singing group, or online community where you can share your love for singing and learn from others. 7. Celebrate small victories: Recognize and celebrate your progress, even small ones. Every step forward is a step closer to where you want to be. Remember that your voice is a gift, and you deserve to enjoy singing again. Embrace your passion and let your unique sound shine through. Keep believing in yourself, and soon, you'll be back on the stage or simply singing for pleasure with newfound confidence. 🎶🙏
Ultimately, you will need to learn to manage your reflux via a number of different things. Leo Marx, the following video may prove helpful - th-cam.com/video/XAwsteNLH3s/w-d-xo.html

I have asthma (from an infantile lung surgery) and i produce a lot of phlegm, so I'm constantly clearing my throat no matter what...what would you recommend for that then?
So how would one stop clearing their throat? Is there an alternative? I clear mine CONSTANTLY because I have a lot of post nasal drip and allergy issues and it makes me uncomfortable, feeling like I always need to clear my throat.
I understand that constant throat clearing can be uncomfortable, especially with post nasal drip and allergy issues. An alternative might be to focus on proper hydration and breath management. Drinking plenty of water can help keep the throat lubricated, and breath management exercises might aid in reducing the urge to clear your throat. It could also be beneficial to consult with a healthcare provider or a speech therapist who can evaluate your specific situation and provide tailored strategies. Remember, these suggestions are general and should not replace professional medical advice.

During my pregnancy I practically lost my voice towards the end. Now 5 months post partum my voice is mostly back to normal but I cannot hit my high notes as I did pre pregnancy. Any idea if this is an actual condition??
Congratulations on your new baby! It's not uncommon for pregnancy to affect your voice. Hormonal changes during and after pregnancy can lead to swelling and changes in the vocal cords, which may impact your vocal range and quality. Most of the time, these changes are temporary and resolve over time as hormone levels return to normal. However, the timeline for recovery varies from person to person. Vocal rest, hydration, and gentle vocal exercises can all help support this recovery. Another consideration is the physical demands and emotional changes of being a new parent, which can also affect your voice. Lack of sleep, for example, can cause vocal fatigue. If you're still noticing changes in your voice, it may be helpful to consult with a speech-language pathologist or a laryngologist who specializes in voice. They can assess your vocal health and provide guidance for regaining your vocal range and strength. Please remember that this advice does not replace a medical consultation. Always consult with healthcare professionals about your personal health concerns. In the meantime, try to be patient with your body and your voice. Continue with gentle vocal exercises, stay hydrated, rest your voice as needed, and make sure you're taking care of your overall health. Wishing you all the best in your vocal journey and your new journey as a parent! 🎶👶🎤

Sir, I was a singer.my sound changed when I was 14 .now my singing voice is gone. I was a good singer.now no one like my singing voice. How will get my good singing voice back??
I can't warm up bc my voice wears out so fast due to the vocal chords not closing on the top half, the ENT still has to tell me why it's doing that. I have GERD and the acid burned my vocal chords a while ago. My voice only lasts a certain amt of time.
Now I have a vocal repair cd I use to get my voice in the right place before a play or singing recital And they use it after because it has cooled down methods, a lot of yawn sighs, those don't hurt my voice.
I know my question may sound weird still will ask.. is it possible that my voice literaly would change ( including speaking voice) from having children( giving birth) ... I had clear soprano voice never been able to do lower notes.. after having my first born my speaking voice and my singing voice has changed drastically.. went way lower .. ( noone in my family literaly could recognise my voice ) and it stayed like that and with each child that I had my voice went more and more low.. now my speaking and my singing voice is completely different and just to confirm I have no thyroid issues or other health issues that could impact my vocal cords..now I can go as low as 3c so a question is - did you ever meet a singer who after having a baby would come back with absolutely different voice than had prior labour.?🤷♀️and if you did , what can possibly impact such drastic vocal change?

Forcing water may be a homeopathic remedy but we rarely ever need that much water in a day. Our appetite for food and water should reflect the exertion rate of the brain and body during activity. Quality activity stimulates appetites for quality, quantified consumption. You are only as good as what you eat. Water is weird. Some water is dank dead don't drink that water. the best water comes out of tree tops alive and refreshing it forms the powder in glades flavoring face shots with organic sulfur.... it's delicious. In the absence of face shots in cold steep powdery glades organic sulfur is available in MSM which vortex dissolved in purified water restores the life giving qualities of the water and flavors it with a delightfully bitter mineral after taste just like the freshest mountain spring water.

Water is not a good "lubricant" and it never has been. Hydration is important but the 8 glasses has been disproven and actually does the opposite, too much water is bad for you. You can't measure air quality in the room you're in without special equipment, don't try. A lubricant should be thick enough to coat and stay there for decent periods of time, sugar in it's liquid state is actually a really good lubricant as long as it doesn't dry which in your body is impossible. I don't know what kind of car your drive but most cars are equipped with sound-deadening insolation which is the closest thing most can and will get to a vocal booth. I like most of your videos because you seem to do a lot of research but this one was quite clickbaity with a couple of myths and a personal bias against singing in the car
I appreciate you speaking your mind in a respectful manner, Crysis...but we still disagree: 1. Drinking 8 glasses of water per day improves systemic hydration, leading to better lubrication of the vocal folds. 2. Not everyone lives in a world where air quality is reasonably clean and clear. I have a global audience, and some people are living with poor air quality year-round. And you don't need special equipment to make this assessment. 3. Not singing in the car is not simply a 'personal bias!' The Lombard effect is real (look it up), and our body alignment when sitting in car seats is appalling. Singing in the car might look good on TH-cam, but it ultimately leads to a muscle memory that activates unnecessary tension.
i listen to what a real expert said, dont practice too long it ruins your vocal style 20 minutes a day, drink Coca Cola, and Chocolate Milk, who was it who told me, ROY ORBISON the best thats ever been.

Here are a few tips to help you along the way:
Should I continue my daily vocal exercise when my voice is in a sore throat condition ?
No. Rest until your voice feels better.
I’ve been suffering from reflux my entire life. I’ve been just given anti acids and that’s it. Do you think this is enough?
Ultimately, you will need to learn to manage your reflux via a number of different things. Leo Marx, the following video may prove helpful - th-cam.com/video/XAwsteNLH3s/w-d-xo.html
Hello
So I think I have found you alittle late but I am still glad that I did
I have had a singing career since I was 16 from cover bands to gospel unfortunately I am now 60 in all that developed acid reflux about 8 years ago and let it go undiagnosed and even after diagnosis I did not want to take meds long story short it was fierce and caused great damage to my esophagus last month I just had a bout with not being able to swallow and it turned out my esophagus was closed and needed stretching that has bothered me since not only that I have both chronic bronchitis asthma and copd and when I got Covid it really took a toll on my breathing
I have a laryngologist and takes good care of me however they just keep me on steroids year after year
I have a small polyp non operable it has not grown for years last month I had a bad bout with bronchitis the cough was wicked and I lost my voice and started gentle excercises finally 1 month later after complete vocal rest he took a look and there was some swelling but he said they I saw my specialist he said there was some swelling from the cough gave a decadron shot and sent me on my way I’m thinking that thru the years with the vocal discomforts and changes I have pushed on
I do not want to quit
Not ready
So I’m sooo glad I found you very very informative
Thank you
So much
Hey sng4lrd. Welcome to Voice Essentials. Thanks so much for subscribing. I really look forward to getting to know you here on TH-cam.
I have this habit of swallowing air purposefully and then burping when I am nervous or anxious. Can this cause damage to my voice?
H Dr Dani, If we are involuntarily expelling air at the very end of the lip trill, how do we fix this and do a more efficient trill? thanks

@@DrDanRobinson I have discussed it with my GP but it wasn't particularly fruitful. Thank you so much for the suggestions!

i dont often drink water..i drink sodas alot..the throat feels clogged could that be reason??

I didn't know about singing in the car, thank you
You're welcome fortunate kashambe. Thanks for watching.

It's hard to get a GP to listen to you when you express your concern about your voice... My GP makes me feel like vocal issues are not as important as others, and that singing is not essential, so he has never taken me seriously...
Have you considered seeking a second opinion?
Dont sing in the car 😂 Car pool karaoke 😂

Sir,
I was a singer.my sound changed when I was 14 .now my singing voice is gone. I was a good singer.now no one like my singing voice. How will get my good singing voice back??
the most important thing is probably vocal exercises
The hormonal changes bought on with pregnancy can change/influence the voice.
Please help DrDan. I always have horse voice and can't sing anymore. I can't finish my song because I loose my voice at the end

"Pay attention to where you put your mouth. Enough said. "
Yup! Nuff said!

Eating sweet and drinking cold water everyday
Duh!
I appreciate you speaking your mind in a respectful manner, Crysis...but we still disagree:
