Don't feel too bad. I was in choir for 5 years and just got out a little over a year ago and my range is G2 to A4. (F5, technically, but I have major issues with notes outside of my PV)
You might be singing one octave above them and maybe that specific range just fits you really well? Also that cracking could ease with practice and trusting your voice more :)
@@goodmoodonsunnydays A lot of people do that without even realising. Or maybe it's just 'cus people are in their bedrooms and don't want peple to hear, so they're trying to do it quietly and don't have the support to go high
The tessitura is more determined by the "color" of your voice than your vocal range especially when you are a beginner. when I began singing, I was persuaded that I was a mezzo soprano, because my vocal range at the time corresponded with it. I was more trained to sing in my low notes, and I didn't knew the technique to sing high. As I took lessons, I learned that I am, in fact a soprano. With the training, my vocal range even expended in the higher notes. If you want to really know your tessitura, the best is to ask a good teacher. It is really hard to determined the tessitura by yourself, since you may not have the proper technique to sing without hurting your vocal cordes.
I needed to hear that I was starting to think I was a horrible singer (i could be) because I didn't have a lot of support but it's supposed to be more for me and for my own happiness that I sing. I have always studied other people's techniques and how they sing and would have fun with it. I guess all singers are my teachers because I could never afford a real teacher. But that's life for a lot of people. So I just wanted to thank you for making this video and encouraging me to just keep singing

This is so amazing--thank you! I am not overly hungup on my voice range and tend to focus on what I can and can't do (IE what I need to work on), but the mechanics and methods behind vocal range is very interesting. Once my voice (and asthma...ugh) completely recover, I will give this a go. I am guessing it is going to be a while, though :(
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 I am on inhalers, I do yoga and breathing exercises, and I am trying to practice singing. I exercise, too, when I am not bad. Unfortunately, I seem to be a hard-luck asthmatic. No matter how vigilant I am, and no matter that I am religious in taking my medication, I have times (specifically in winter, less so in summer) where my asthma wins. And after trying everything under the sun, I have come to realize that sometimes, you just have to slow down and take a break. I consider myself lucky that I am not severe. Yes, my quality of life is horrible during these times, but I have never been to the hospital or broke low enough to need emergency care. The only thing that gets me out of a spiraling flare is oral steroids, but I fortunately only need a short time on them (most of the time). i am thinking that singing is helping, as I have had major improvements this year in comparison to previous ^_^
For real- I decided to sing as a hobby. Was on my bed singing... look up and see a WHOLE BIG BUG ON MY BED. ;) let’s say... we danced. I won though! Then we fought! And I pushed it into a cup from my dads old shoes. And hurried outside. Before trying to kill it with wood but then my sister decided to do the deed... Alas, she failed. Little buddy escaped.
Some random guy came up to me while I was singing to myself and asked if I was a bass and I said I don't know and now here I am. Trying to learn how to sing
Wonderful video! I actually shared it with someone who I thought would benefit greatly from this information. I do notice that many people get quite hung up on voice type. I think it often has to do with wanting to imitate our favorite pop singers on the radio, but I think there may be more to it than that. For me personally, I am a tenor with a lighter/brighter quality to my voice, even more so than most pop stars. It often feels good to know that my voice is unique in this way even if I do not always sing well. Perhaps some men think that since baritone is the most common voice type that to be classified as a baritone makes you an average, non-unique singer with an average vocal range. With this mindset, to be classified as a baritone is a death sentence to your creative and artistic expression. However, being classified as a baritone does not limit your vocal potential and should not be used as an excuse to give up. If you’re a baritone, be the best baritone you can possibly be!
I overcommitted to a bit and wound up getting a rare audition for a (relatively) prestigious theatre's summer season. This video was indispensible for figuring myself out at the beginning!
I can hit lowest notes to G2 if i push it. D3 is the lowest notes i can sing and feel comfortable. But why my tone is sounds like patrick from spongebob? 😂 I've been practice singing almost 5 years. Everything about mix voice and many things... And just 1 week ago somone told my singing voice sounds ugly even i'm singing in tune.
This is outstanding. Thank you so much! In college I learned I was technically a mezzo-soprano, but was confused because I sound like an alto. However, your explanation about vocal tract resonance, etc. makes it all clear. This video was extremely helpful!
That moment when... you don't actually know how to correctly sing along with the notes he's playing, but you're just watching it for entertainment and education.
Actually, I saw that on Mythbusters, and you can't break glass with your voice. They had this singer come in who was really good with high notes, and the glass only broke when an amp was used.
okay im pretty sure i didnt even hit the notes cause- prima voce lowest: C4 highest: C5 vocal range lowest: C4 highest: D6 voice classification: kettle Edit: tbh im tone deaf as hell so i redid this and i think my prima voce is actually B3- lowest b4 - highest Im a tenor lmaooo
I’d say based on the fact that you’re one note less than the highest note of soprano, you’re pretty much a soprano. Because based on your prima you’re in the lower register of soprano but right in the middle of mezzo. So you can’t hit high notes as high as a regular soprano but you’re still classified as one. I have no idea what it would be if you were in the higher or lower register of mezzo though. All I know is you’re in the middle of mezzo, and the lower of soprano based on the prima. So yeah 🤷

Why is it easier for me to sing with songs sang by men? If I sing "higher" I crack and sound like a duck dying of a stroke
You might be singing one octave above them and maybe that specific range just fits you really well? Also that cracking could ease with practice and trusting your voice more :)
I guess your a man...😂😂👍

I’m the same way but with women.

uh so i can sing from tenor to soprano notes
what da “fach” we gonna do now
Wow
😂 you're gonna keep fach'ing singing! 👍😉♥️
I can sing from bass to about the end of Alto. So idk what that makes me.
Holy fach
I'm just now realizing how many Italian words you use in musical terminology 😲

Kitan Kate how can I know that I have a chest infection?
I needed to hear that I was starting to think I was a horrible singer (i could be) because I didn't have a lot of support but it's supposed to be more for me and for my own happiness that I sing. I have always studied other people's techniques and how they sing and would have fun with it. I guess all singers are my teachers because I could never afford a real teacher. But that's life for a lot of people.
So I just wanted to thank you for making this video and encouraging me to just keep singing
everytime I sing a E7 satan snatches his nokia and calls his lawyer

I just pissed myself a little

Vocal classification also can't be known unless the voice is fully developed.
Ink King, did you watch the video all the way through? I think I make suggestions to this effect towards the end.
What do you mean by "fully developed"?
@Redstronics - do you mean like that a person is young and their sound is still developing or do you mean that they haven't practiced?
@Redstronics - english isn't my native language
@Redstronics - so i am left with no anwser. Thank you.

No breathing treatments?
They're miracle workers. Knock it right out.
This has been very helpful as I am a singing and piano music teacher! Thanks!
my voice type can summon insects out and cast storms of stones into my roof, how powerfully awful is that.
For real- I decided to sing as a hobby. Was on my bed singing... look up and see a WHOLE BIG BUG ON MY BED. ;) let’s say... we danced. I won though! Then we fought! And I pushed it into a cup from my dads old shoes. And hurried outside. Before trying to kill it with wood but then my sister decided to do the deed... Alas, she failed. Little buddy escaped.
Getting a cup, sees a bug.
Puts bug in finger, YEET it across the planet except for cockroaches.
AMEN!
I overcommitted to a bit and wound up getting a rare audition for a (relatively) prestigious theatre's summer season. This video was indispensible for figuring myself out at the beginning!

This is outstanding. Thank you so much! In college I learned I was technically a mezzo-soprano, but was confused because I sound like an alto. However, your explanation about vocal tract resonance, etc. makes it all clear. This video was extremely helpful!
Glad I could help!
That moment when... you don't actually know how to correctly sing along with the notes he's playing, but you're just watching it for entertainment and education.

@@Fearless13468 damn if you’re a girl then you’re contralto. And you might be bass if a guy
So yeah 🤷
I'm an Alto in Prima Voce. I always had doubts whether I'm Alto or Mezzo but now I'm certain. Pretty cool.
