Two weeks ago I changed my oil and filters on my 2007 Toyota Tacoma 4.0 L V6. I used the exact filter in the video, Fram Ultra synthetic XG3614 with Valvoline 5W-30 full synthetic high mileage oil, along with the Fram Ultra engine air filter 9683. They are very good products at very competitive prices.
I can vouch that Halvoline Pro DS 5w30(6 quart from Wally World) and the oversized Fram XG8A is a great combo. Plus it ups the capacity from 5.5 to 6 quarts. Also a positive. If I wanted to up my oil I’d go with Valvoline EP(running my gf’s Mazda 3). The new Ultra Synthetics aren’t what they were but are still great.
Even if these aren’t the best, they are good considering they are easy to run into a store and grab without much thought. Like, they aren’t a BAD choice I don’t think I’d run it for 20k miles, but you could say that about any filter
I have this exact filter on my vehicle now. It has just 4200 miles on it. It cost $9.00 US at Walmart. I plan to run it for two Oil changes, which will amount to 10,000 miles total. So far I like it. It’s the only F filter I will use. Thanks for the video on this filter.
Thanks Steven, Fram has a winner with the ultra synthetic, the older ultra synthetic was superior to the new filters but now they call it Fram Endurance.
I would use that filter but as you know I have used AC Delco gold for my truck since new and it's worked great for me. How about doing another comparison of the AC Delco lineup of oil filters, that would be a good comparison. Thanks Bill for another great video.
you should stick a flashlight in the center tube, apparently, they leak between the base of the leaf spring and the endcap lip, it would be interesting to see if they fix this issue, thanks for the video get well soon, and merry Christmas.
I used it on my 2012 elantra and engine seemed to start a little rougher than with other filters, also more vibrations at idle than usual. I also saw a guy make a video and compares oil pressure from regular fram and this one definitely showed more resistance caused by extra layers of filtration. I buy motomaster now, they seem to do an excellent job.
@EverydayJ1786 either way, the motomaster full synthetic still seemed like it had better flow, so i dont know, gonna stick with em. And yes, i do my oil changes ever 5k km.
The price is **everything** on this and other filters, to me. This FRAM Ultra Synthetic is by far my choice in the States, as it's **$7.26** on Amazon as of 2024 with Subscribe & Save (new one arrives every six months). It's the best filter there is at the price! But at **C$15.99** I suspect that's PurolatorBOSS territory, which restricts flow less and filters just as well (they both catch 99.9% of everything in Brand Ranks testing)
Great price, I get them for $15.99 myself, but for $6.00 at rockauto my filter has been the Champ XL. But getting back to the ultra Synthetic, I liked the pre 2020 filters better but the newer ultra Synthetic looks to do a good job. Thanks for the good comment.👍
I've been using the Purolator Boss which is a great filter, but the Fram Syn looks pretty close, but less money. I change my oil in my 2014 F150 ecoboost now at 3,500k. The Fram should hold up nicely.
Any one us7ng the 3614 cam also use grebe 3600 filter, as long as you have clearance for an extra 1.5 inches. Same everything except longer so you have more filtering media, yes the bypass is the same. I use the Fram Endurance FE3600, Amsoil EAO34 or the Purolator Boss, Royal purple has an equivalent extended life model also. These are better filters than the UG3614/UG3600. Fram Endurance is their top tier model made by Champion labs.
Yes I remember that there was a lot of binding back in the olden times. Some filters still do. The original ultra Synthetic had a wire mesh the kept everything in place, now they are made more cheaper. Thanks John.
Still makes me wonder why Fram doesn't use metal end caps on all there filters, they have the ability to do so, would make more customers believe in there filters.
Not sure how well either works, thick or thin. I like a nice medium filter media. I plan on looking at the Fram Tough Guard again and seeing why it's better than the Extra Guard.

Yes the price of the ultra Synthetic is not bad compared to others, has a lot of high quality materials in it. Thanks Michael.

@@crazybillsgarage I bought maybe 15 of the old version on clearance for $4 at a few Walmarts in ottawa maybe 2 years ago

I'm in the same opinion you have, not a bad filter and yes I could still use these easily. Thanks

Lol 2 oil changes but won't change the 9 dollar filter smart
@burton7023 it is what it is. Everyone has there own idea on oil changes.
@crazybillsgarage no that's not a idea the filter is what needs changing lol
@burton7023 👍🏻

Good idea Stan I will look into that. Thanks.
Cut open Fram Endurance please. It is Amsoil clone for $13.
Thanks Ronald, that filter is planned whenever I can get my hands on one of those filters.

Thanks Bud, I will check the center tubes out with flashlight.

You know motomaster are just rebranded Fram filters..... Oil change intervals matter more than oil brand or filter brand . 👍
@EverydayJ1786 either way, the motomaster full synthetic still seemed like it had better flow, so i dont know, gonna stick with em. And yes, i do my oil changes ever 5k km.
The motomaster OEplus I hope, I will be going through Motomaster filters soon.
So right, regular oil changes help the engine live longer.
Keep up the good work with 5k oil changes. Sounds like your regular with those.

The Boss is a good filter I hear, I haven't reviewed that one yet, will be getting hold of one soon.

Thanks Baltic for that useful information. Any extra Filtration is a good thing.
Why didn't they bind the pleats with some sort of fiber string? It prevents bunching.
Yes I remember that there was a lot of binding back in the olden times. Some filters still do. The original ultra Synthetic had a wire mesh the kept everything in place, now they are made more cheaper. Thanks John.
This one looks pretty solid but you have shown much ceeper filters of the same quality 🤔

Good Review Bill.
Thanks Ted
Seems as though everyone wants a lot of thick pleats, no thanks, I’ll use the Tough Guard.

Patrick Mahomes review of the all new Fram ultra 😂
Great Quarterback, at least that's what I have seen. Love the comment. 😂
