Thanks for this video. Very interesting, IMHO. FWIW...my Subaru 3.6R (now at 70.000 miles) has an unusually high by-pass spec of 23.2 psi. I haven't learned from Subaru or any other source whether or not that's particularly important but, because of it, have always used Subaru OEM (Tokyo Roki; $7-8.00 from the dealer.) filters and changed oil/filter (Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30) at 6,000 according to manual spec. I acknowledge that many aftermarket filters show better construction, better media and better specs than my OEM filter...as both of these do. However, my Blackstone UOA's show results better than any others I've seen from Subaru forums, BITOG, Blackstone or any other source regardless of oil/filters used, especially in terms of "wear metals". Given my angst about that Subaru by-pass spec, I've been reluctant to use other filters that don't have it...meaning none. Still don't know if that unusually-high bypass spec really matters or not but based on my UOA's, I think I'll keep doing what I've been doing.
That's a high BPV setting, the most I see go up to around 18psi. for regular oil filters. Racing oil filters usually have high BPV settings also. In my opinion, a by-pass valve setting all depends on how restrictive the filter is, if it's less restrictive it won't need a high BPV setting. I think with regular oil changes and with what you're using "Pennzoil" a good synthetic engine oil and you shouldn't have any engine problems. Good oil analysis reports are a good sign your doing everything right. Thanks for your feedback!

If ever the time comes when I'm able to learn the actual reasons behind Subaru's unusually-high bypass spec...that is, if I learn definitively that it doesn't really matter in terms of using an after-market filter with lower by-pass spec...I will likely change. However, Subaru dealer, Subaru specialized shops, Subaru national and the filter manufacturers themselves have told me so little as to be indistinguishable from nothing at all. Don't know why it's such a secret. Almost like asking a magician to divulge how they've done one of their illusions...they won't do it. Advice from anyone solicited.
As a technical specialist for an oil company and additive company as well as being a senior Master Tech at a dealership and seeing what goes on with these types of filters and different types of oil the Fram Ultra is an outstanding choice for a filter and it does a very very good job and when you break it down to see what is the best bang for your book it's going to come out the Fram Ultra every time it's the best filter on the market for the price right alongside the Fram titanium
FBM, what about flow? It looked like the Amsoil filter had far more holes in the core. About twice as much. Does that make a difference? i’m only asking because I use this Amsoil filter and if I could save a third of the price using the Fram that would be great. But only if it’s about equivalent as far as performance. thanks.
I've been working at Walmart in the Auto Care Center for nearly 14 years and I've done thousands of oil changes in that time. I've never had a filter gasket stick on the filter mounting plate on an engine, that was lubricated on the original install. Every one that stuck was installed with a dry gasket. Some were on so tight with a dry gasket that the filter housing crushed when I attempted to remove the old filter because a dry gasket also adds friction. The filter has to be forced off with the gasket not moving while the filter is spinning. Always lube your oil filter gasket with some oil before you install i Personally, I've been using the Fram Ultra filters on all my vehicles at oil change time for almost as long as the Ultra has been available. I've never had an engine problem due to the filter failing. It's my go-to filter. If my filter isn't available, I'll default to the Fram Tough Guard filter. Thank you for doing an actual apples to apples comparison. No doubt there is an Amsoil fanboy someplace who would have done this comparison but would have used the Fram Extra Guard orange box filter then poo pooed the Fram filter for being a poor quality filter in comparison. And usually it's because of the fiber end caps Fram uses on the Extra Guard over the metal end caps used on most higher end filters, including as the Ultra Synthetic. But what they tend to miss, is that the end cap material is similar to the actual filter media itself which requires much less adhesives and much less expensive adhesives to adhere 2 similar surfaces as opposed to 2 completely different surfaces. This is why you do see a lot of glue coming out of the filter media/base plate areas. By making a filter less expensive, Fram can pass that savings on to the customer. It's marketing 101. Anyway, thank you again for the great quality comparison's you do. Thumbs up.
The filter efficiency Fram uses is another play on words, 99% greater than 20 microns, which means at some point greater than that pore size it will stop 99%. Whereas Amsoil gives the appropriate Absolute Efficiency rating at 20 microns, not some vague number greater than 20. The other marketing ploy is the long life. If you read the warranty, filter only, and only for a normal OEM OCI. Whereas Amsoil warranty gaurantees the filter and engine for 25k from defects and damage., using the appropriate extended drain oil. Have not seen a comparison between a lesser quality Fram and the premium Amsoil. By going the full 25k, the price is 1/2 of the Fram. Been using Amsoil products for 37 years, never a problem caused by thier filters or oil, and I have gone way past 25k OCIs. No I am not a dealer, just an engineer who studied synthetic lubricants in college in 80-90's. I did these filter shoot-outs 25 years ago and I actually sent filters in for ASTM and SAE standard performance testing. These physical comparisons are a joke, and as whip city wrencher said it is for entertianment.
@@tssci6774 My family has been using Fram filters for about 70 years now. My Grandpa had the local Gambles Hardware store and he featured Fram filters. He never had a customer come back with a bad filter. We ran Fram in tractors, trucks, farm equipment and cars. Never an engine issue from any of the engines we used them in. I've been with Walmart almost 14 years, and we did have 3 or 4 filter issues but all were due to a bad seal, not with the filter housing or inners. Does Fram make had filters? No. Does Fram make an occasional bad individual filter? Sure, anything can happen. Amsoil is going to make an occasional bad filter too. Fram just manufacturers so many times more that a bad one will happen more often. That's life. No guarantees.
@@dannyo6699 Nothing wrong with brand loyalty, never said they make bad filters, I have even defended them on forums over the soft endcaps. As long as the glue does its job, dont care. I have used Fram many times and have an Ultra in my car today. Currently going through and using oil analysis to determine filter performance. Better than tearing apart a filter and making subjective opinions. Amsoil actually stood behind their filter, paid for all independant testing, reimbursed me for my expenses when I discovered a bad filter in my car. It was a one-off flaw, but they held to their gaurantee, did not ignore me or make sign a non disclosure before cashing my check. Other companies like VP Racing did when their Octane booster damaged my sparkplugs and O2 sensors. Big difference.
In my opinion, if you already buy amsoil motor oil, you might as well just buy their filter. But if you don’t use amsoil fram is the way to go for sure
I've been using Amsoil motor oil and other products for decades. For filters, I do prefer the Fram Ultra or Tough Guard, or Wix quality. Price and quality is a consideration. All the cheaper made ones are to avoid in my opinion.
I always buy Amsoil signature series oil and Fram Ultra synthetic filter. Best combo in my opinion, runs great for a full year no problem on my 08 civic with 210k miles so far and running strong.
I use the Amsoil Signature series too. But my parts store doesn't sell Amsoil filters, oddly enough. A guy cut open 7 or 8 oil filters on one vid on here, Wix and Napa came out the best, so been buying Wix. Also use Lucas Synthetic Stabilizer, quieted the car down, had nicks that were driving me crazy. Civic, best car I've ever owned. Bought mine after delivering to their factory in Marysville OH. 86k miles, 2010.
Both quality extended interval synthetic media filters made in the US. But, price and availability makes Ultra the easy winner. The Amsoil is made by Champ Labs. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Whip! I've been using the Fram Ultra Synthetic for 4-5 years changing my oil every 5K. The lower Fram filters are Junk as most know but they have a winner here for the price with the Ultra. I love the black tar Grip and I tighten it to car by hand with leather gloves very easily no leaking I always coat the gasket with oil First with my finger. My other bargain go to is the Newest SuperTech which Whip compared against the standard budget SuperTech. BTW Do not ovetighten THE FRAM as it could strip or blow off with heat expansion as it has nearly ONE LESS THREAD than many others out there (freeze Frame Whip's video) and you can see what I'm talking about the Amsoil thread is a hair deeper. I've never had a problem though with the Fram but I saw a couple others that have. It is possible they were put on too tight who knows...The fram's can Wall is kinda thin and it can dent easilywhen I use my pincher's to get them off but no biggie there. Blackstone labs tested oil for a couple Fram Ultra users and it came back at the top! The Ultra media is very gooood purportedly. Good luck.
Fram Ultra all day long. Internals are very comparable to Amsoil and it’s way cheaper at Walmart and easily accessible. I used to run Amsoil filters before the Fram Ultra filters came out.
I'm a Purolator Boss fan. After watching this video I would definitely go for the Fram Ultra if the Boss wasn't available. Thanks for another informative review/video.
Been using the Amsoil filters for years. 23,000km intervals with them with of oil analysis done. Amsoil filters are expensive, but the way I look at it for $25.00 now and I am eliminating 2 oil changes per year. That’s $14 of the Fram filters I am not paying for. So really the Amsoil costs me $12.50 per change only paying up front. If that makes sense.

I change my Fram ultra synth at around 4k. No such thing as an overly clean motor or too much reliable in a vehicle. So far, I've noticed no issues. The oil stays pretty clean and does not burn. The filter does seem to hold more oil when compared to the Motorcraft filter I used to run. More oil in the system may provide more protection for my engine.

It actually says right in my manual to change at 3k for severe service, with at least blend or 100% synthetic, which I fall under most of the time. 5k is the max if you don't drive hard and mostly stick to the highway. If you go over 5k, you must not really care about peak performance or engine cleanliness. If you're trying to claim a dirty engine will outlast one with 3k oil changes using full synth, your words hold no value to me or anyone else with a passion for motorsports. It shows how much you know about combustion engines. I change my oil with full synthetic ester on my 4t 500 cc Enduro machine every 8 hrs/200 miles. Also change my 1000 cc sportbike at around 1500/2000 miles with expensive motul, at least annually. I'd rather be riding with clean oil and peace of mind than putting around with a sludged up piece of junk. With motorcycles if your engine fails, it can be fatal. With modern engines, they could be the first or last component to fail, depending on if you actually take the time and effort to change the oil on time, with care. Anyway, depending on what you drive maybe you don't want to ever change the oil. Maybe you should just change the whole vehicle if you don't like it enough to keep it maintained. I hear on some hondas and toyotas, oil changes are optional. Some say it's a lifetime fluid, I say oil is cheap protection for optimum performance. I can feel the difference every time with fresh oil and filtration. Maybe it's just my old tired Ford engine, but I swear it gets better every time I change the oil or go for a long road trip. I absolutely love driving the vehicle in any conditions. Awd with the 2v 4.6.
Very informative video. I'm using the Amsoil 25,000 Mi filter now, but I'm going to switch to the Fram synthetic with 50% more filter media and a better seam and better flow
Could be not comparing apples to apples. Ive no comparisons, only amsoil’s published material which states they use ‘nano’ technology for their filter media. What they are getting at is that they use a very fine filter media screening. Meaning the passageways through the media are 20 micron but due to the finer screen or ‘framing’ material, for a square inch of material, they have many more passageways than conventional 20 micron filter material. Assuming what they say is true, this means better flow especially when cold and oil is thicker meaning less time the unfiltered bypass is open. If true, should be a good thing.
I’ve been an AMSOIL dealer since 2008, I love the AMSOIL filters and most of my customers do to. I still have a few customers that use other brands for the “nut” on them for easy removal but use AMSOIL oils. It’s personal preference on each brand but remember a local dealer gets paid on every AMSOIL sale, unlike the big brands that run off corporate greed. Cool video, thanks for making it.
I have Amsoil oil inside my cars but I use Fram filters and love them. Especially the removal is easier due to the rubber grip. I use Fram Ultrasynthetic filters so Fram haters pls dont blast me on this lol. Sometimes, the Fram models that I need are not in stock then I often get Wix, Purolator or K&N (This one is also good for removal).
Amsoil center core had more holes. Amsoil is the best oil on the market and pricey. But if your keeping your vehicle long term its the one oil that will make the engine fast longer.
Did you watch the video? And the mileage rating dropped from 25000 to 15000. And its funny Amsoil claims the reason why is that if you take 2 identical Honda's their computets are different and one engine will have sludge.....now you gotta know how far fetched that is and how strict emissions standards are. What a complete joke.
Can you imagine the amount of money over years of product testing, development etc Fram has spent to make a great product made in the USA. Fram for all my vehicles for decades, no issues and a lot of trust.
I agree Fram filters have never let me down on all my vehicles since 1988 from many auto makers to a Kawasaki on a John Deere mower that still runs like the day I bought it. I never gave oil filters a second thought till I started watching Pete’s videos. I’m switch my filter in my Silverado to the ACDelco PF63 because I think it has a higher oil flow. Farms are fine filters and can be bought just about anywhere.
Thank you for the video! I find it interesting to see the innards of the various filters. What sold me on the Fram was the 20 micron rating. I'm switching from Mobil1 as it has a 30 micron rating. Huge difference! Champion Labs and the Amsoil filter are also an excellent filter, but the price difference is insurmountable.
@@wangwang2003not all 20 micron filters are the same flow wise. Youd have to count how many 20 micron orfices there are in the filter media to accurately compare. Amsoils sales point is that their filter media is “nano” meaning thinner screen material allowing more 20 micron passages. More passages means when cold, less restriction, the less time the bypass is open when oil is cold and thicker. When bypassing, the oil is not filtered. Although, some filters do have a coarse screen on the bypass to capture the chunks.
Wow, I know the base "orange" Fram filter has a bad rep, but this high end Fram looks really well made. And a very good price point too. My local Walmart has them for $8.99. Not a bad price when you consider it's a top tier filter. As for the Amsoil, I have no idea why any fool would pay $17, plus tax, plus shipping, to get one filter. I can get more than four good quality Motorcraft filters for the same price and change the oil 4x more often. Sorry, no 20,000 mile oil change for me. That's nuts!
There is more to it than that. And the 25,000 mile/1 year change interval has been proven since 1972. But, many people are not willing to change. Nothing wrong with that when you can afford it.
I watched one of this guys video on a different comparison with the fram ultra and he found metal specs in the threads I just bought a fram ultra the day before and when I seen the video I went and checked my fram and bam metal specs/shavings in the threads not good if that gets in your engine so I returned the fram .

The Fram has longer and wider filter media so more surface area. The clear winner. If you are worried that the metal core on the Fram is going to clog up then you have bigger problems with your car than the oil filter.
A lot of people on the internet who think they know more than they do like to badmouth Fram. In reality Fram's higher end oil filters are of high quality and reasonably priced for what you're getting. Well done vid, thanks for posting it 👍🏽
Nice review! I too am not a proponent of using one filter through multiple oil changes. That's apparently what Amsoil wants you to do. I am running a Purolator Boss with Mobil 1 EP 5W-30 synthetic currently. I really like the design of the Purolator Boss filter-2017 Impala Premier V-6 87,000 miles on the engine. A nod to the Fram!
Thanks! I like the Purolator Boss also with the Polymer screen backing and they use a cream-colored glue on the end caps which is a lot harder and stronger IMHO than your typical black glue.
Amsoil is a great company and nobody beats their oil but I really just cannot see how they can justify the price they’re asking for the filter in this video. It’s a run of the mill good filter... and costs 2 - 3 X as much as all the other equally good filters. It’s ridiculous.
I take the Fram XG, bigger filter area, and I'm more after the 20 micron particle capture. It's only going to be in for 5000 miles or 6 months due to the warranty.
Price? How much does a new engine cost you. Why cut open a filter. What would you see. The media is expressed in microns. Is that what your eyes are calibrated to? Some people are way above "normal". Amsoils filter material isnt just paper. Its a patented synthetic. When you get into why medical filters are better because of this type of material, you will understsnd the quality difference
I agree, the Fram looks like a good deal! I am also not sure I would feel comfortable with 10000+ miles on an oil change. Most oil analysis number have seen on the internet show greatly reduced TBN past 5000 miles, and if you have fuel thinning.... going past 5000 miles I would have to have lab analysis to see if the oil was still protecting the engine. I don't want to pay for it, so I'm sticking with 5000 miles or twice a year, whichever comes first.

For the price point. Fram is the winner. I don't like the stamped spring and for the price of the Amsoil it should have a coil spring. Filter medias are equal, but give the nod to Fram for the longer length. AlWays love Filter Friday. Thank you for all that you do.
Leaf springs work good and are progressive. Trucks use leaf springs because they are more progressive in rate, carry a load better then coils can. Although coils give a better ride ok
Amsoil make excellent products oils, filters etc..project farm on you tube did a a comparison, and amsoil beat out many competitors...however with prices being so expensive I had to switch...now I use penzoil oil, and toyota filter from Walmart...
I have always thought amsoil was way over priced. Fram has had so many problems and complaints that they have stepped it up and now make a better product. Amsoil’s oil is is also over priced. We can do just as good with other products. Besides one should not have to take a loan out on his house to buy oil
The newer version of the Fram XG did away with the wire backing. The filter efficiency is a slight bit better on the newer version. XGs are ~10$ in the upper mid west, but prices are rising with inflation.

People give Fram a bad time because Fram makes cheap oil filters... Fram makes oil filters for all price ranges! Fram is great value and quality, just get the right filter for the job!
I'd go with Amsoil. Seems like a better product. The filter media is probably a far better material than the Fram, but with either, I would still change my oil and filter no later than 5,000 miles under normal driving conditions. That would be about twice per year for me. There used to be old commercials on radio and TV by Fram that suggested change your oil often and use a Fram filter. The tag line was - "You can pay me now, or you can pay me later." This was supposed to be a mechanic speaking saying you can buy the filter now or repair your engine later. Good advice, even if you don't use Fram.
Hello 👋 I bought a Fram ultra synthetic oil filter and noticed the rubber gasket comes off really easy. So I super glued it on and now it won't come off. I used about 5 drops spaced apart. I checked to make sure its level. And it is.
I don't care what oil filter you use, but you should still change your oil at 3000 mile intervals,period!! Anyone who thinks they can change their oil at longer intervals and still avoid engine wear simply doesn't have a clue!! As a retired millwright/industrial mechanic (48yrs) and a retired professor of machine technology, I have attended countless lubrication seminars! My takeaway is that the "lifetime" of a machine, including automobiles, is the length of the warranty and no longer!! Oil is cheap, engines are not!! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
The 3,000 mile drain pain came from the 1960's, over 60 years ago now. I suggest looking at the reams of test data from laboratory oil analysis tests and witnessing even low performing, cheap oils perfectly capable of going well beyond the obsolete 3,000 mile drain pain. There is not a single oil company or car company that recommends the 3,000 mile drain pain anymore, as it's unnecessary and very wasteful. Times change. Technology progresses. If you use cheap oils, expect cheap results. We get what we pay for. AMSOIL coined the term, "Extended drain interval", with up to 25,000 mile recommended oil drain intervals beginning way back in 1972, over 50 years ago. Seems to me by far the most important difference is filter media area, with more area, you will always have more flow clean or dirty. This is a Major difference!
These filters are used in the SRT engines and would be a good option to use on the Hemi 5.7’s and 6.4’s…the factory filters for those engines are super small and must restrict flow in time…
The Fram is a paper cellulose synthetic media blend while the Amsoil is 100% synthetic media fram doesn't have the same micron rating Fram fine print says specifically above 20 micron.
I know, they changed the Fram Ultra, the one in the video is the older one with the metal backing, and they no longer have the metal backing. The micron rating now is 99+% for particles above 20 microns. That's pretty close. Thanks for your feedback!

But again it's achilles heal is a paper synthetic blend media that is only 99% above 20 microns what they refuse to state is at what micron level exactly it could mean 25, 30, 35, 40, which is it? Respectfully I would guess 30. The price for this Fram is $15.79. Where the Amsoil is $19.79 preferred customer price otherwise retail $26.35. so for $4 more I get a higher flow rated 100% synthetic nano media that at the same ISO standard is 99% efficient AT 20 microns. For my Cummins diesel the Amsoil oil filter is worth it's weight in gold at $4 more because of the soot the engine produces. Also why I would never go 20,000 miles with out the 2 micron oil bypass filter kit also installed. Never do extended drain intervals with out it.

I've tried looked all over their website called Fram spoke with one of their engineers and they won't say anything but exactly what their fine print already says 99% greater than 20 microns. Im very skeptical of fram over there deceptive cardboard constructed filters that wiped out engines because card board plugged oil ports.
I dont know much about filters but I think we dont know enough either. Just because Fram says its expected to work or can work for up to 20K doesnt mean it will.. Amsoil has a proven unbeatable track record when it says it will work garanteed for 15K it will. The Fram looks shaky why does the Fram only have very small outlet holes and the inner holes look so tiny doesnt the oil need to speedingly flush out of those? Im a firm believer in Amsoil I used its ATF and it made my car stop shuddering. I swear I was worried I might need to get a new Transmission very soon but works much better now.

But you can make it cost effective by increasing drain intervals and still get better overall protection, less wear, clean engine internals, stabile viscosity at high and low temps. Easier starting, increased mpg. using AMSOIL's premium 100% real synthetic oil and EAO filters. It's been tested and proven to work. Also their preferred customer program gets you reduced prices & Free shipping on 100 bucks or more, although the shipping isnt terrible at like eight bucks, but I wouldn't order one filter at a time, that like alot of things the shipping gets to much for one or a few small items. There is getting to be more & more retailer's handling Amsoil products though.
I think it comes down to the number of holes, seams like amsoil has more eventhough not the same. I'd like to see both on a flow test, two top filters that would decide it for me.

i us Amsoil Oil & Filter on 2006 Dodge Sprinter Van & change filter & oil at 20,000 miles test oil . I test with Blackstone ever other oil change & usually only problem is Fuel dilution van has over 300,000 miles
The slots might not be bad as it looks as though they are trying to create directionalization and possibly a swirl effect to hit the media more evenly.
amsoil filter is longer life yes or no. i use purolator of fram ultra. not cheap stuff. and i use castrol non synthetic but its been doing good. ill probably stick with what im doing. amsoil is a good product though.
Hi David, Amsoil is rated for 25,000 miles and the Fram Ultra is rated for 20,000 miles. But who's going to go that many miles on a single oil change. Not Me.

You forgot to mention where the Fram filter is made unless I missed it in this video. If it's made overseas then that's why the Fram filter is cheaper . So you decide what you want cheaper price , with jobs overseas , or American made you would pay a little more for it .
I went through most of the comments, and nobody noticed that the Fram has a fibre gasket where it meets the relief valve bracket. The Amsoil is just metal to metal. The Fram is rated 99+% at 20um. The new Fram media seems to be cheaper, no metal screen, thinner media, but more of it. They claim better filtration. Thanks, Whip City!!

A couple things that are really hard to determine in a video is the quality of the filter material and the holding capacity of the media. Take bath towels as an example. You can have two towels of equal size. One might be of a higher quality (grade) of material and last longer. Also, one towel can hold more than the other. Both filters might have the same 99% efficiency at 20 microns but one might be full sooner causing oil to go through the bypass. I assume the Amsoil media is a higher quality media. I think I have used an Amsoil and that Fram a couple of times. My filter of choice is a Purolator Boss. Also, I think the can thickness is a little over rated. I'm sure it's not for the people who have had a filter punctured but I have never known anyone who has had one punctured. I have a pretty good amount of experience with fleet vehicles that get crappy filters and have never heard of issues with those either. I would prefer a thicker can over a thinner one though.
The only punctured oil filter I've ever seen was the one with the big-ass screwdriver driven through it with a hammer to get enough leverage to unscrew it from my buddy's engine. Had to try TWICE. By the time it came loose, it looked like it'd been used to sight in a .30-06. LOL!
The Royal Purple oil filters are basically the same as the Amsoil and Fram Endurance oil filters and I've opened a lot of the Mobil oil filters, a google search should show you them. Thanks!👍
I purchase the amsoil filters and use Pensoil ultra or Mobil 1 oil and call me crazy but every 3000 miles I change my oil and filter. I have six vehicles. OIL holds dirt and contaminates. I do use a Mann filter on my BMW. I do my own oil changes Dealers have KIDs Changing vehicles oils and filter..An they forget to put oil in or over tighten filters or drain plugs. I always keep my vehicles in excess of 200000 miles I find it gives me self serving peace knowing my engines are well maintained and lubricants with high quality products. The amsoil filters for my 22 corolla 6 speed manual has tons of holes in the bottom of the filter VS OEM

In the old days '60's. The auto manufacturers said to change your oil filter every other oil change. So you could do that with the AMS. BUT I change my oil n filter every 3k miles using normal oil.
Excellent video. I use the standard 9972 (2012 camry 2.5l). I will be upgrading to the xg2 9972. I like the metal screen. I do oil and filter changes 6 months JAN/JUL. Annual mi. 3500. Seems excessive, but so are engine prices. Preferred oil: Pennzoil Ultra Plat. 0w-20. Again, nice job on the video.

I used Wix filters on that 2.4L The car had 244k miles on a never rebuilt engine that never burned oil or smoked. We use Wix (both oil and fuel filters) on our long haul road tractors. The Wix filter for my Camry is $20. Maybe I'll just switch back to OEM Toyota filters. They are dirt cheap. Three filters for $10 bucks on Amazon.
I would run the signature series 25K drain blend first with the fram. At 10K I would do an oil analysis and save the results then, I would change oil with the same oil and put on the Amsoil 25K oil filter and do another oil analysis to see if I come up with any differences in the test. It's too difficult by just looking at these this way to tell which filter is most effective. The oil test result may give better info to be able to tell. Either way, I'm using the Amsoil filter on my car because I'm running Amsoil in it. At 15K I'm going to do a PM oil analysis anyway with one of our oil test kits and send that into the lab we use.
That ams oil filter, to answer your question. About the 25000 mile interval. It's a spill and fill style filter. At about 10000 I'll drain my oil and top it up with 5 quarts of fresh oil. Then the next time I change both oil and filter

I tried lots filters and Fram xg series keeps my oil brown twice as long as all the others I tried. I never tried Amsoil but for fram price can't beat it.
You can get the high miles out of the Amsoil when there are a lot of highway miles and it is when you use Amsoil oil because it does not break down like most other oils. I will still choose Amsoil filters over Fram any day of the week.

Fram Synthetic Endurance is an exact replica of the Amsoil filters. One example is how the amsoil filter has one larger inlet hole. This is unique to amsoil yet you now find it on the Fram Synthetic endurance filters as well. I tell you it's a clone rolled off the same assembly line. The coating on the outside is the same and the Fram SE is even a smudge shorter than the ultra.

@ginog5037 Mann is made in North Carolina. Plenty of videos on their filters. They're making Wix filters and the quality is not there. They did a lot of restructuring in the NC plant and hopefully they'll get it in order.
Thanks for this video. Very interesting, IMHO. FWIW...my Subaru 3.6R (now at 70.000 miles) has an unusually high by-pass spec of 23.2 psi. I haven't learned from Subaru or any other source whether or not that's particularly important but, because of it, have always used Subaru OEM (Tokyo Roki; $7-8.00 from the dealer.) filters and changed oil/filter (Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30) at 6,000 according to manual spec. I acknowledge that many aftermarket filters show better construction, better media and better specs than my OEM filter...as both of these do. However, my Blackstone UOA's show results better than any others I've seen from Subaru forums, BITOG, Blackstone or any other source regardless of oil/filters used, especially in terms of "wear metals". Given my angst about that Subaru by-pass spec, I've been reluctant to use other filters that don't have it...meaning none. Still don't know if that unusually-high bypass spec really matters or not but based on my UOA's, I think I'll keep doing what I've been doing.
That's a high BPV setting, the most I see go up to around 18psi. for regular oil filters. Racing oil filters usually have high BPV settings also. In my opinion, a by-pass valve setting all depends on how restrictive the filter is, if it's less restrictive it won't need a high BPV setting. I think with regular oil changes and with what you're using "Pennzoil" a good synthetic engine oil and you shouldn't have any engine problems. As a technical specialist for an oil company and additive company as well as being a senior Master Tech at a dealership and seeing what goes on with these types of filters and different types of oil the Fram Ultra is an outstanding choice for a filter and it does a very very good job and when you break it down to see what is the best bang for your book it's going to come out the Fram Ultra every time it's the best filter on the market for the price right alongside the Fram titanium

I've been working at Walmart in the Auto Care Center for nearly 14 years and I've done thousands of oil changes in that time. I've never had a filter gasket stick on the filter mounting plate on an engine, that was lubricated on the original install. Every one that stuck was installed with a dry gasket. Some were on so tight with a dry gasket that the filter housing crushed when I attempted to remove the old filter because a dry gasket also adds friction. The filter has to be forced off with the gasket not moving while the filter is spinning.

Personally, I've been using the Fram Ultra filters on all my vehicles at oil change time for almost as long as the Ultra has been available. I've never had an engine problem due to the filter failing. It's my go-to filter. If my filter isn't available, I'll default to the Fram Tough Guard filter.
Thank you for doing an actual apples to apples comparison. No doubt there is an Amsoil fanboy someplace who would have done this comparison but would have used the Fram Extra Guard orange box filter then poo pooed the Fram filter for being a poor quality filter in comparison. And usually it's because of the fiber end caps Fram uses on the Extra Guard over the metal end caps used on most higher end filters, including as the Ultra Synthetic. But what they tend to miss, is that the end cap material is similar to the actual filter media itself which requires much less adhesives and much less expensive adhesives to adhere 2 similar surfaces as opposed to 2 completely different surfaces. This is why you do see a lot of glue coming out of the filter media/base plate areas. By making a filter less expensive, Fram can pass that savings on to the customer. It's marketing 101.

The filter efficiency Fram uses is another play on words, 99% greater than 20 microns, which means at some point greater than that pore size it will stop 99%. Whereas Amsoil gives the appropriate Absolute Efficiency rating at 20 microns, not some vague number greater than 20. The other marketing ploy is the long life. If you read the warranty, filter only, and only for a normal OEM OCI. Whereas Amsoil warranty gaurantees the filter and engine for 25k from defects and damage., using the appropriate extended drain oil. Have not seen a comparison between a lesser quality Fram and the premium Amsoil. By going the full 25k, the price is 1/2 of the Fram. Been using Amsoil products for 37 years, never a problem caused by thier filters or oil, and I have gone way past 25k OCIs. No I am not a dealer, just an engineer who studied synthetic lubricants in college in 80-90's. I did these filter shoot-outs 25 years ago and I actually sent filters in for ASTM and SAE standard performance testing. These physical comparisons are a joke, and as whip city wrencher said it is for entertianment.
@@tssci6774 My family has been using Fram filters for about 70 years now. My Grandpa had the local Gambles Hardware store and he featured Fram filters. He never had a customer come back with a bad filter. We ran Fram in tractors, trucks, farm equipment and cars. Never an engine issue from any of the engines we used them in.
I've been with Walmart almost 14 years, and we did have 3 or 4 filter issues but all were due to a bad seal, not with the filter housing or inners.
Does Fram make had filters? No.
Does Fram make an occasional bad individual filter? Sure, anything can happen.
Amsoil is going to make an occasional bad filter too. Fram just manufacturers so many times more that a bad one will happen more often. That's life. No guarantees.

I have used Fram many times and have an Ultra in my car today. Currently going through and using oil analysis to determine filter performance. Better than tearing apart a filter and making subjective opinions. Amsoil actually stood behind their filter, paid for all independant testing, reimbursed me for my expenses when I discovered a bad filter in my car. It was a one-off flaw, but they held to their gaurantee, did not ignore me or make sign a non disclosure before cashing my check. Other companies like VP Racing did when their Octane booster damaged my sparkplugs and O2 sensors. Big difference.
In my opinion, if you already buy amsoil motor oil, you might as well just buy their filter. But if you don’t use amsoil fram is the way to go for sure
I've been using Amsoil motor oil and other products for decades. For filters, I do prefer the Fram Ultra or Tough Guard, or Wix quality. Price and quality is a consideration. All the cheaper made ones are to avoid in my opinion.

I use the Amsoil Signature series too. But my parts store doesn't sell Amsoil filters, oddly enough. A guy cut open 7 or 8 oil filters on one vid on here, Wix and Napa came out the best, so been buying Wix. Also use Lucas Synthetic Stabilizer, quieted the car down, had nicks that were driving me crazy. Civic, best car I've ever owned. Bought mine after delivering to their factory in Marysville OH. 86k miles, 2010.
Both quality extended interval synthetic media filters made in the US. But, price and availability makes Ultra the easy winner. The Amsoil is made by Champ Labs. Thanks for the video.

Thanks Whip! I've been using the Fram Ultra Synthetic for 4-5 years changing my oil every 5K. The lower Fram filters are Junk as most know but they have a winner here for the price with the Ultra. I love the black tar Grip and I tighten it to car by hand with leather gloves very easily no leaking I always coat the gasket with oil First with my finger. My other bargain go to is the Newest SuperTech which Whip compared against the standard budget SuperTech. BTW Do not ovetighten THE FRAM as it could strip or blow off with heat expansion as it has nearly ONE LESS THREAD than many others out there (freeze Frame Whip's video) and you can see what I'm talking about the Amsoil thread is a hair deeper. I've never had a problem though with the Fram but I saw a couple others that have. It is possible they were put on too tight who knows...The fram's can Wall is kinda thin and it can dent easilywhen I use my pincher's to get them off but no biggie there. Blackstone labs tested oil for a couple Fram Ultra users and it came back at the top! The Ultra media is very gooood purportedly. Good luck.

Been using the Amsoil filters for years. 23,000km intervals with them with of oil analysis done. Amsoil filters are expensive, but the way I look at it for $25.00 now and I am eliminating 2 oil changes per year. That’s $14 of the Fram filters I am not paying for. So really the Amsoil costs me $12.50 per change only paying up front. If that makes sense.

I change my Fram ultra synth at around 4k. No such thing as an overly clean motor or too much reliable in a vehicle. So far, I've noticed no issues. The oil stays pretty clean and does not burn. The filter does seem to hold more oil when compared to the Motorcraft filter I used to run. More oil in the system may provide more protection for my engine.
3000 mile oil changes are a thing of the distant past, when engines were "worn" at 100K miles.

It actually says right in my manual to change at 3k for severe service, with at least blend or 100% synthetic, which I fall under most of the time. 5k is the max if you don't drive hard and mostly stick to the highway. If you go over 5k, you must not really care about peak performance or engine cleanliness. If you're trying to claim a dirty engine will outlast one with 3k oil changes using full synth, your words hold no value to me or anyone else with a passion for motorsports. It shows how much you know about combustion engines. I change my oil with full synthetic ester on my 4t 500 cc Enduro machine every 8 hrs/200 miles. Also change my 1000 cc sportbike at around 1500/2000 miles with expensive motul, at least annually. I'd rather be riding with clean oil and peace of mind than putting around with a sludged up piece of junk. With motorcycles if your engine fails, it can be fatal. With modern engines, they could be the first or last component to fail, depending on if you actually take the time and effort to change the oil on time, with care. Anyway, depending on what you drive maybe you don't want to ever change the oil. Maybe you should just change the whole vehicle if you don't like it enough to keep it maintained. I hear on some hondas and toyotas, oil changes are optional. Some say it's a lifetime fluid, I say oil is cheap protection for optimum performance. I can feel the difference every time with fresh oil and filtration. Maybe it's just my old tired Ford engine, but I swear it gets better every time I change the oil or go for a long road trip. I absolutely love driving the vehicle in any conditions. Awd with the 2v 4.6.

Could be not comparing apples to apples. Ive no comparisons, only amsoil’s published material which states they use ‘nano’ technology for their filter media. What they are getting at is that they use a very fine filter media screening. Meaning the passageways through the media are 20 micron but due to the finer screen or ‘framing’ material, for a square inch of material, they have many more passageways than conventional 20 micron filter material. Assuming what they say is true, this means better flow especially when cold and oil is thicker meaning less time the unfiltered bypass is open. If true, should be a good thing.
I’ve been an AMSOIL dealer since 2008, I love the AMSOIL filters and most of my customers do to. I still have a few customers that use other brands for the “nut” on them for easy removal but use AMSOIL oils. It’s personal preference on each brand but remember a local dealer gets paid on every AMSOIL sale, unlike the big brands that run off corporate greed. Cool video, thanks for making it.

I have Amsoil oil inside my cars but I use Fram filters and love them. Especially the removal is easier due to the rubber grip. I use Fram Ultrasynthetic filters so Fram haters pls dont blast me on this lol. Sometimes, the Fram models that I need are not in stock then I often get Wix, Purolator or K&N (This one is also good for removal).

Amsoil center core had more holes. Amsoil is the best oil on the market and pricey. But if your keeping your vehicle long term its the one oil that will make the engine fast longer.

And its funny Amsoil claims the reason why is that if you take 2 identical Honda's their computets are different and one engine will have sludge.....now you gotta know how far fetched that is and how strict emissions standards are. Can you imagine the amount of money over years of product testing, development etc Fram has spent to make a great product made in the USA. Fram for all my vehicles for decades, no issues and a lot of trust.
I agree Fram filters have never let me down on all my vehicles since 1988 from many auto makers to a Kawasaki on a John Deere mower that still runs like the day I bought it. I never gave oil filters a second thought till I started watching Pete’s videos. I’m switch my filter in my Silverado to the ACDelco PF63 because I think it has a higher oil flow. Farms are fine filters and can be bought just about anywhere.
Thank you for the video! I find it interesting to see the innards of the various filters. What sold me on the Fram was the 20 micron rating. I'm switching from Mobil1 as it has a 30 micron rating. Huge difference! Champion Labs and the Amsoil filter are also an excellent filter, but the price difference is insurmountable.

@@wangwang2003not all 20 micron filters are the same flow wise. Youd have to count how many 20 micron orfices there are in the filter media to accurately compare. Amsoils sales point is that their filter media is “nano” meaning thinner screen material allowing more 20 micron passages. More passages means when cold, less restriction, the less time the bypass is open when oil is cold and thicker. When bypassing, the oil is not filtered. Wow, I know the base "orange" Fram filter has a bad rep, but this high end Fram looks really well made. And a very good price point too. My local Walmart has them for $8.99. Not a bad price when you consider it's a top tier filter. As for the Amsoil, I have no idea why any fool would pay $17, plus tax, plus shipping, to get one filter. I can get more than four good quality Motorcraft filters for the same price and change the oil 4x more often. Sorry, no 20,000 mile oil change for me. That's nuts!

There is more to it than that. And the 25,000 mile/1 year change interval has been proven since 1972. But, many people are not willing to change. Nothing wrong with that when you can afford it.

I watched one of this guys video on a different comparison with the fram ultra and he found metal specs in the threads I just bought a fram ultra the day before and when I seen the video I went and checked my fram and bam metal specs/shavings in the threads not good if that gets in your engine so I returned the fram .

The Fram has longer and wider filter media so more surface area. The clear winner. If you are worried that the metal core on the Fram is going to clog up then you have bigger problems with your car than the oil filter.

Nice review! I too am not a proponent of using one filter through multiple oil changes. That's apparently what Amsoil wants you to do. I am running a Purolator Boss with Mobil 1 EP 5W-30 synthetic currently. I really like the design of the Purolator Boss filter-2017 Impala Premier V-6 87,000 miles on the engine. A nod to the Fram!

I like the Purolator Boss also with the Polymer screen backing and they use a cream-colored glue on the end caps which is a lot harder and stronger IMHO than your typical black glue.

Amsoil is a great company and nobody beats their oil but I really just cannot see how they can justify the price they’re asking for the filter in this video. It’s a run of the mill good filter... and costs 2 - 3 X as much as all the other equally good filters. It’s ridiculous.

I take the Fram XG, bigger filter area, and I'm more after the 20 micron particle capture. It's only going to be in for 5000 miles or 6 months due to the warranty.

Price? How much does a new engine cost you. Why cut open a filter. What would you see. The media is expressed in microns. Is that what your eyes are calibrated to? Some people are way above "normal". Amsoils filter material isnt just paper. Its a patented synthetic. When you get into why medical filters are better because of this type of material, you will understsnd the quality difference

I agree, the Fram looks like a good deal! I am also not sure I would feel comfortable with 10000+ miles on an oil change. Most oil analysis number have seen on the internet show greatly reduced TBN past 5000 miles, and if you have fuel thinning.... going past 5000 miles I would have to have lab analysis to see if the oil was still protecting the engine. I don't want to pay for it, so I'm sticking with 5000 miles or twice a year, whichever comes first.
I think 5,000 miles is a good OCI also, oil is cheap engines are not.

Fram Ultra’s are phenomenal filters, I love using them, knowing they are going to filter my oil better than some of the other companies.
The Ultra construction is very different than other Frams. Only Fram that uses metal endcaps, only Fram I'll use.
I use Amsoil 0w20 XL in my 2021 Lexus NX300 but I use Purolator boss filters or Napa Platinum filters get them local

I have always thought amsoil was way over priced. Fram has had so many problems and complaints that they have stepped it up and now make a better product. Amsoil’s oil is is also over priced. We can do just as good with other products. Besides one should not have to take a loan out on his house to buy oil

The newer version of the Fram XG did away with the wire backing. The filter efficiency is a slight bit better on the newer version. XGs are ~10$ in the upper mid west, but prices are rising with inflation.

I'd go with Amsoil. Seems like a better product. The filter media is probably a far better material than the Fram, but with either, I would still change my oil and filter no later than 5,000 miles under normal driving conditions. That would be about twice per year for me. There used to be old commercials on radio and TV by Fram that suggested change your oil often and use a Fram filter. The tag line was - "You can pay me now, or you can pay me later." This was supposed to be a mechanic speaking saying you can buy the filter now or repair your engine later. Good advice, even if you don't use Fram.

Hello 👋 I bought a Fram ultra synthetic oil filter and noticed the rubber gasket comes off really easy. So I super glued it on and now it won't come off. I used about 5 drops spaced apart. I checked to make sure its level. And it is.

I don't care what oil filter you use, but you should still change your oil at 3000 mile intervals,period!! Anyone who thinks they can change their oil at longer intervals and still avoid engine wear simply doesn't have a clue!! As a retired millwright/industrial mechanic (48yrs) and a retired professor of machine technology, I have attended countless lubrication seminars! The 3,000 mile drain pain came from the 1960's, over 60 years ago now. I suggest looking at the reams of test data from laboratory oil analysis tests and witnessing even low performing, cheap oils perfectly capable of going well beyond the obsolete 3,000 mile drain pain. There is not a single oil company or car company that recommends the 3,000 mile drain pain anymore, as it's unnecessary and very wasteful. Times change. Technology progresses. If you use cheap oils, expect cheap results. We get what we pay for. AMSOIL coined the term, "Extended drain interval", with up to 25,000 mile recommended oil drain intervals beginning way back in 1972, over 50 years ago. These filters are used in the SRT engines and would be a good option to use on the Hemi 5.7’s and 6.4’s…the factory filters for those engines are super small and must restrict flow in time…
The Fram is a paper cellulose synthetic media blend while the Amsoil is 100% synthetic media fram doesn't have the same micron rating Fram fine print says specifically above 20 micron.

they changed the Fram Ultra, the one in the video is the older one with the metal backing, and they no longer have the metal backing. The micron rating now is 99+% for particles above 20 microns. That's pretty close.

But again it's achilles heal is a paper synthetic blend media that is only 99% above 20 microns what they refuse to state is at what micron level exactly it could mean 25, 30, 35, 40, which is it? Respectfully I would guess 30. The price for this Fram is $15.79. Where the Amsoil is $19.79 preferred customer price otherwise retail $26.35. so for $4 more I get a higher flow rated 100% synthetic nano media that at the same ISO standard is 99% efficient AT 20 microns. For my Cummins diesel the Amsoil oil filter is worth it's weight in gold at $4 more because of the soot the engine produces. Also why I would never go 20,000 miles with out the 2 micron oil bypass filter kit also installed. Never do extended drain intervals with out it.

I've tried looked all over their website called Fram spoke with one of their engineers and they won't say anything but exactly what their fine print already says 99% greater than 20 microns. Im very skeptical of fram over there deceptive cardboard constructed filters that wiped out engines because card board plugged oil ports.
I dont know much about filters but I think we dont know enough either. Just because Fram says its expected to work or can work for up to 20K doesnt mean it will.. Amsoil has a proven unbeatable track record when it says it will work garanteed for 15K it will. The Fram looks shaky why does the Fram only have very small outlet holes and the inner holes look so tiny doesnt the oil need to speedingly flush out of those? Im a firm believer in Amsoil I used its ATF and it made my car stop shuddering. I swear I was worried I might need to get a new Transmission very soon but works much better now.

But you can make it cost effective by increasing drain intervals and still get better overall protection, less wear, clean engine internals, stabile viscosity at high and low temps. Easier starting, increased mpg. using AMSOIL's premium 100% real synthetic oil and EAO filters. It's been tested and proven to work. Also their preferred customer program gets you reduced prices & Free shipping on 100 bucks or more, although the shipping isnt terrible at like eight bucks, but I wouldn't order one filter at a time, that like alot of things the shipping gets to much for one or a few small items. There is getting to be more & more retailer's handling Amsoil products though.

i us Amsoil Oil & Filter on 2006 Dodge Sprinter Van & change filter & oil at 20,000 miles test oil . I test with Blackstone ever other oil change & usually only problem is Fuel dilution van has over 300,000 miles

The slots might not be bad as it looks as though they are trying to create directionalization and possibly a swirl effect to hit the media more evenly.
I dont know about the swirl, but the louvers do point towards the exit end of the filter.
amsoil filter is longer life yes or no. i use purolator of fram ultra. not cheap stuff. and i use castrol non synthetic but its been doing good. ill probably stick with what im doing. amsoil is a good product though.

You forgot to mention where the Fram filter is made unless I missed it in this video. If it's made overseas then that's why the Fram filter is cheaper . So you decide what you want cheaper price , with jobs overseas , or American made you would pay a little more for it .

I went through most of the comments, and nobody noticed that the Fram has a fibre gasket where it meets the relief valve bracket. The Amsoil is just metal to metal. The Fram is rated 99+% at 20um. The new Fram media seems to be cheaper, no metal screen, thinner media, but more of it. They claim better filtration. Thanks, Whip City!!

A couple things that are really hard to determine in a video is the quality of the filter material and the holding capacity of the media. Take bath towels as an example. You can have two towels of equal size. One might be of a higher quality (grade) of material and last longer. Also, one towel can hold more than the other. Both filters might have the same 99% efficiency at 20 microns but one might be full sooner causing oil to go through the bypass. I assume the Amsoil media is a higher quality media. I think I have used an Amsoil and that Fram a couple of times. My filter of choice is a Purolator Boss. Also, I think the can thickness is a little over rated. I'm sure it's not for the people who have had a filter punctured but I have never known anyone who has had one punctured. I have a pretty good amount of experience with fleet vehicles that get crappy filters and have never heard of issues with those either. I would prefer a thicker can over a thinner one though.
The Purolator Boss is a good oil filter. I like it also.

The only punctured oil filter I've ever seen was the one with the big-ass screwdriver driven through it with a hammer to get enough leverage to unscrew it from my buddy's engine. Had to try TWICE. By the time it came loose, it looked like it'd been used to sight in a .30-06. LOL!
Two other good filters to test would be royal purple and Moble 1

I purchase the amsoil filters and use Pensoil ultra or Mobil 1 oil and call me crazy but every 3000 miles I change my oil and filter.
I have six vehicles. OIL holds dirt and contaminates. I do use a Mann filter on my BMW. I do my own oil changes Dealers have KIDs
Changing vehicles oils and filter..An they forget to put oil in or over tighten filters or drain plugs.
I always keep my vehicles in excess of 200000 miles
I find it gives me self serving peace knowing my engines are well maintained and lubricants with high quality products.
The amsoil filters for my 22 corolla 6 speed manual has tons of holes in the bottom of the filter VS OEM

In the old days '60's. The auto manufacturers said to change your oil filter every other oil change. So you could do that with the AMS. BUT I change my oil n filter every 3k miles using normal oil.

Amsoil has there signature series oil good for 25 000 miles which would work well with the amsoil filter

Excellent video. I use the standard 9972 (2012 camry 2.5l). I will be upgrading to the xg2 9972. I like the metal screen. I do oil and filter changes 6 months JAN/JUL. Annual mi. 3500. Seems excessive, but so are engine prices. Preferred oil: Pennzoil Ultra Plat. 0w-20. Again, nice job on the video.

Pennzoil Platinum and Fram Ultra are a good combo. I opened up a Fram Ultra cartridge filter, though not your size, it will be shown on June 24th. The one I opened up had a plastic screen back but just as good as a metal screen backing IMHO.

Reason I write this, just wanted to give you a heads up on oil filter. It is in fact a metal screen (maybe I got old stock, not sure). I'll be doing another service 15JAN23. We'll see what they send. This is a heavy duty filter. Synthetic media, metal screen and epoxied end caps. The OEM Toyota filter has no end caps or internal pleat support at all.

I used Wix filters on that 2.4L The car had 244k miles on a never rebuilt engine that never burned oil or smoked. We use Wix (both oil and fuel filters) on our long haul road tractors. The Wix filter for my Camry is $20. Maybe I'll just switch back to OEM Toyota filters. They are dirt cheap. Three filters for $10 bucks on Amazon.
I would run the signature series 25K drain blend first with the fram. At 10K I would do an oil analysis and save the results then, I would change oil with the same oil and put on the Amsoil 25K oil filter and do another oil analysis to see if I come up with any differences in the test. It's too difficult by just looking at these this way to tell which filter is most effective. The oil test result may give better info to be able to tell. Either way, I'm using the Amsoil filter on my car because I'm running Amsoil in it. At 15K I'm going to do a PM oil analysis anyway with one of our oil test kits and send that into the lab we use.

That ams oil filter, to answer your question. About the 25000 mile interval. It's a spill and fill style filter. At about 10000 I'll drain my oil and top it up with 5 quarts of fresh oil. Then the next time I change both oil and filter
That's why I would rather change out two Fram Ultras, instead of doing what you just described (reusing a dirty oil filter).

I agree the Ultra is a best bang for your buck oil filter and is easily obtained at Walmart.

You can get the high miles out of the Amsoil when there are a lot of highway miles and it is when you use Amsoil oil because it does not break down like most other oils. I will still choose Amsoil filters over Fram any day of the week.

@@WhipCityWrencher when you see fliw tests and actual filtering tests with capacities as gas been done in many filters including Amsoil filters by labs not associated with the company you will be a believer in the Amsoil filters. Have not seen anything on these Fram ones, but I would be surprised if they were nearly as good.

Fram Synthetic Endurance is an exact replica of the Amsoil filters. One example is how the amsoil filter has one larger inlet hole. This is unique to amsoil yet you now find it on the Fram Synthetic endurance filters as well. I tell you it's a clone rolled off the same assembly line. The coating on the outside is the same and the Fram SE is even a smudge shorter than the ultra.

For 20 bucks I’d expect more from amsoil thank god I use the Fram Ultra. Two filters for price of one.
Their both are garbage use MANN or Bosch...
@ginog5037 Mann is made in North Carolina. Plenty of videos on their filters. They're making Wix filters and the quality is not there. They did a lot of restructuring in the NC plant and hopefully they'll get it in order.
