    Walmart has these filters for under $10.00. Combined with Walmart Super Tech full synthetic oil for about $15.00 for five quarts you get an oil and filter change for about $25.00. Now that is a great deal.

    • @njsongwriter
      @njsongwriter 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I figure the oil change is $20. Because I'm planning on changing my oil every 5,000 miles and the filter every 10,000 miles. And since our car takes less than 4.5 quarts, it's even less than that.

      Arthur Smith, I also use this oil and filter combo on my cars and have not had any problems with it. Been doing it since the days it was called Tech 2000 (before they changed the name to SuperTech).

      Our vehicle is a 2009 Toyota RAV4 FWD Base (2.5 liter four cylinder) with just over 43,500 miles on it. We use Supertech 0W-20 full synthetic oil and change it every 5,000 miles. I have changed it five times since we bought it in March 2019 when it had less than 19,000 miles on it. I have used Toyota OEM filters twice and K&N filters twice and just last week tried the Supertech filter. However, after reading about the Fram Ultra Synthetic filter I am thinking of trying that at the next oil change. It would be overkill to change that filter every 5,000 miles though so I'm thinking I would change it every 10,000 miles (every other oil change). I am still concerned with flow rates and I wonder how flow rate might be effected by longer intervals as contaminants accumulate in the filter. Note; This vehicle only takes an element. (Fram XG9972) It does not accept a spin-on canister.

      I appreciate that but I'll likely stay with 5k oil changes and 10k filter changes unless I change oil three times in one year. As it is now, I just changed it last week and expect the next change to be due in January. So my summer change will be oil and filter and winter change will be oil only. No garage so outdoors in my driveway will make the job easier by not doing the filter. But if I ended driving considerably more than 10,000 miles a year it's possible I could go 15,000 miles between two filter changes.

    best filter for my performance car! bigger holes on the base plate for better flow

    • @SlikLizrd
      @SlikLizrd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The large holes in the base plate are an advantage over SMALL holes -- but the flow rate going INTO the filter cannot be greater than the flow OUT OF the filter -- and the OUTLET HOLE of the filter is the same for ALL brands of oil filters.
      Those big holes help with keeping the oil flow EVENLY balanced across the surface of the filter.

  • @robertwilson5615

    There's a myth going around stating that the oil filter's anti-drainback valve prevents "dry starts". It does not.
    If the filter is positioned with the threaded portion facing up, then the filter remains full because of gravity.
    If the filter is positioned horizontally, then the half the oil drains out when the engine in off.
    If the filter is positioned on top of the engine with the threaded portion facing down, then all the oil drains out.
    What the valve does do is to keep oil from draining out of the filter's intake holes and carrying a lot of filtered crud back into the engine. The filter's oil is free to drain back into the engine through the center threaded hole (the exit hole). The position of the filter determines how much oil drains back, not the valve.
