We own a 11 Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 with a 4.0 V6 and an automatic transmission.
I was getting 19 mpg until I installed a K&N cold air intake and a 3” FlowMaster exhaust system.
These 2 mods increased my hp, torque and mpg.
I now get 23mpg on the MT freeway with the cruise set on 85mph. In WA state our speed limit is 70, so I set my cruise at 75mph. In WA I get 25mpg.
Yes by adding a cold air intake, the engine can suck more air, but then it needs a freer flowing exhaust system to blow out.
I’ve been doing this to all my vehicles for nearly 25 years. It works every time

Never thought I’d see a resonator on the intake

In my opinion. If it's not broke. Don't fix it. My 95 is still factory. Except the battery, radio and fuel pump. Has over 334,000 miles on it and still gets around 25 MPG.

How the hell do you get 25 mpg?

The thing with intake upgrades is that they really don't do anything as a stand alone add-on. The ECU adjusts for the increased airflow and you basically get the same thing as running a stock intake

Yes it's useless for a power upgrade , most have a box surrounding the intake when taken off it just inhales more hot air from the engine bay unless place in a specific area. where you know, cold air will flow more property aka making your own piping. Better off changing the headers and piping all the way back and changing to a bigger throttle body good place to start for some power gains.

Iv got the same 95 truck with the 2.3l good trucks..have you put zipties on your cable to your gas pedal it will help too but not too much or you will mess up the idle

Yeah it's a great little truck, I hadn't heard of that zip tie trick but I understand how that would work, will definitely be checking to see if there's slack on the cable and will try that trick, thanks 👍🏻

Would hood scoop bring more air in?

    • @jonsgarage2882
      @jonsgarage2882  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes and no. Yes more air could get into the engine bay with a scoop, but with the stock air intake setup it is designed to draw air from under the fender. If we had a different cold air intake of some kind, where it was designed to draw from under the hood, then yes a scoop would be beneficial.

OK OK OK.... I'll throw in my (2 cents).... MY ford ranger (1995)... It's green... and has a whopping 97,000 miles on it. Rusty... here in New Hampshire, but pretty clean. Alas. I trashed the clutch last Summer so spent the winter pulling the transmission and kicking in with that kit that includes the clutch etc, slave cylinder, hydraulic line and all the trimmings. So it's about the clutch safety switch... Under the dashboard, hooked around the shaft to the master cylinder. errr not available on e bay. I'm struggling with the "new part" but tomorrow will be putting the "old part" back. W/O the clip. So there. Please share everything that you do. Just don't sell this truck. Thanks so much !

You change only the sound but to other tube didn't block any air flow!! Truck will run the same😂😂😂

It will last forever if you take care of it

It's called a "muffler". I have always replaced it with plastic plumbing pipe fittings. Oh! and a K&N is good for passing larger particles into the cylinders.
