Jon's Garage
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 เม.ย. 2014
Welcome to my channel, my name is Jonathan, I'm just a guy who likes to fix his own cars, build his own projects, and share some of it along the way. I'm no professional, I just learn from whoever I can and from my own experiences. I'm not 100% sure what this channel is or will become but maybe it'll be fun, maybe it'll help someone out, maybe we'll all learn something along the way. Thanks for stopping by!
It’s been a while (Hardbody update, New Truck!)
Quick update on projects, plus my new to me 2000 Silverado 2500.

Learning to Drift the Hardbody at Drift Day
มุมมอง 631ปีที่แล้ว
Here’s a short video from Drift Day back in November that I started to put together a while ago and then didn't get finished and posted until now. Anyway it was a fun day, I learned a lot and have an idea of where to go from here to improve. Thanks to Blaine for trailering and helping me out here today, and thanks to @FelixDrifts and everyone else who let me ride along.
Drift Day Prep for the Hardbody
มุมมอง 86ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I’m touching on and showing a couple of things I did to get ready for Drift Day including trailering the truck to the track for the first time. I replaced the front sway bar bushings as well as the sway bar end link and bushings. I also replaced the carrier bearing and made a small suspension adjustment. Look for the next video for drift content.
Charity Poker Cruise (Clutch break in)
มุมมอง 98ปีที่แล้ว
Today my friend and I participated in a local charity poker cruise. We got a paper with the route and to track our hand, at each stop we draw a random card and it’s marked down, at the end of the cruise the best and worst hand win a prize. We didn’t win but had a good time, obviously I didn’t film everything but enjoy the cruise clips and some of the cars that joined in. This was also the first...

Nicest Salvage Yard Hardbody I’ve Ever Seen!
มุมมอง 143ปีที่แล้ว
Back in the yard today for a couple of parts for the daily drivers, and came across this beauty of a hardbody I thought I’d share. Also a short clip on a cavalier that I thought was neat and took some parts from (I did get that steering wheel cover btw lol).

Today we finally got this 1982 Honda Magna V45 to fire up and run on its own again after sitting for 3 years. More to come on this bike and the blue tanked Magna you can see at the beginning, I'll talk more about what have been doing to restore these bikes to make them cruisers once again.
Nissan Hardbody "Drift setup" (Bare Minimum)
มุมมอง 19K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is an overview of the setup on the hardbody that I've started drifting it on. I put bare minimum in the title because these trucks realistically need more mods than this to be good at drifting, but as a proof of concept, this works. I am still learning how to drift effectively so I can't really speak to how good of a drift vehicle the hardbody is just yet. It's a lot of fun though I can sa...
CB Radio Install (Ranger)

Today we installed a CB Radio in the Ford Ranger. As a part of this I show how I like to add fused circuits to vehicles. Here is the link to the fuse kits I use: Nilight - 50040R 10 Pack 12V Car... www.amazon.com/dp/B07TBRM45F?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
1st Time "Drifting" the Hardbody
มุมมอง 9642 ปีที่แล้ว
I hesitate to call this drifting as it's not much more than some slides and spinning out, but I have no drifting experience so I'm figuring this out as I go. The truck seems to have good potential but would definitely benefit from more angle, coilovers, a race seat, the list goes on. Stay tuned to watch the progress! I'll upload an updated drift setup video for the truck later but for now here ...

I see the video upload date was almost 2 years,, curious to know how clutch has held up, about to replace mine and a few other things whole j have the trans pulled and trying decide on the clutch to put in, mine is a daily so want it reliable!
hey man im doing the exact same thing on my ute in austraila what fuel pressure are you running with the osias fpr before you upgraded the diaphragm im gonna run 6 psi boost
I think I was at about 50-55psi fuel pressure
Does that crank sensor have to line up with anything or just pop it in
Please show all steps...everywhere you didn't and just said you did...was a huge problem
Do you have a mass airflow sensor on there?
Yes, the stock mass airflow sensor is still there. It sits right on the throttle body so it is still reading air flow and at least partially contributing to it running properly.
Where did you get the headlamps I was thinking of doing that to my frontier
They are from Amazon, any of the headlamps for a Jeep XJ or YJ should fit a hardbody. However I think the frontier has different headlamps than the hardbody.
Does it work for a straight stock motor or do I need to upgrade like my pistons or sum?
Yep mine's straight stock, for low boost (8lbs or less) seems to be fine. If you want to go higher, then forged pistons, rods, crank, arp head studs, all that stuff.
This was super helpful thank you bro bro!
how long did this take roughly?
I think like 16hrs if I remember right? It was probably 2, 8 hour days. Should be a doable weekend job. Would be faster if I did it again I'm sure
So this why it’s hard to put my truck in first gear or reverse. Clutch pedal to the floor and it grinds?!
Yeah good chance of it.
XLT stands for xtra luxury truck
What leaf spring clamps are those??
I made those out of some flat steel bar stock and bolts, all from a hardware store.
Where did you get your injectors? I’m having a hard time finding them
Hey i have the same truck, i have a rod knock any tips?
You could try thicker oil, but you're probably looking at an engine rebuild. New rod bearing and a crankshaft inspection at minimum I would guess.
Do you by any chance have the part number for the tophat
25147235
Dude those old early 2000's chevys if well taken care of just work and last! they are also so cheap to by and to take care of and repair. I have a 94 chevy crewcab and she just works.
I appreciate this. helpful tips. Have clutch replace on list of projects after locate heavy short. Thanks And Our God With You As Love
I’m glad it was helpful! Good luck and God bless!
Don’t change the trans fluid, if you do don’t drain it all out leave about quart in it. Sounds funky but you want the metal deposits if it has any in it. The theory behind it is that the grit closes the clearance between the gears and keeps it happy. I’ve heard plenty of people say that changing the fluid will make it worse or destroy it the rest of the way. If it’s hard shifting or dragging shifts it can be the torque converter. If the truck dies when you put it into gear like reverse or drive it probably is the torque converter.
Thanks for the info! I’ve been hearing the same thing about not changing the transmission fluid so I’ll leave it be. Been driving it around and have experienced the hard 1-2 shift several times now, I think I’m going to add some Lucas stop slip to it and see how it does. Hasn’t had any issues with going into drive or reverse so I’m assuming not the torque converter. Probably is going to need a transmission before too long.
How much was your ecu
What's the part number for the front shocks?
They are KYB Gas-A-Just Monotubes PN: KG4511. You have to trim the long tubes in the lower mount to fit, pretty easy though.
Man, I got one of those bikes. Does anyone know why do I have to put it on full choke every time when I turn it off or started it up?
Choke for starting is pretty normal if the bike is cold. If you're needing choke once the bike is warm or to keep it running at all then you have a fuel problem, likely it needs the jets in the carb cleaned out. But it could be simplier like a clogged fuel filter, weak fuel pump or even just needs an adjustment to the carbuerators. The choke on these bikes is actually an enricher, meaning it just adds fuel to the mix, so needing choke likely means it needs more fuel.
to much bodyroll/grip for the power you have. needs to be way stifffer at least in the front
Yeah you're right for sure, that's honestly why I haven't done much with it recently. I need to get it on coils in the front at least, ideally front and rear.
Great video! It was helpful to me as I am in the process of doing a 5 speed conversion on mine. Thanks for posting it!
That is the crank position sensor on top of the bell housing.
Is it an oil cooled turbo?
Yes just oil
with obd2 you didnt have any issues with egr/emissions delete?
There may be a recall on this. GM fixed my 2005 Malibu steering for free, although I don't really know what they replaced. But if you search you can find a recall on Malibu power steering.
Will this clutch fit a 4x4 Nissan d21 with the ka24e?
What did you do for additional fuel once the turbo was added?
Walbro 255 fuel pump and a boost referenced rising rate fuel pressure regulator with a base fuel pressure around 50psi
Very nice! How did you get the 4.3 hat to seal for boost? I grabbed one from the yard but the dia is just a little bigger than my KA's throttle housing.
Yeah mine is a little bit larger too, but with the rubber gasket from the KA's throttle body (id recommend a new one), as long as its centered, it is close enough to seal up.
What did you use to take off the top starter? I’m stuck
That's a good question, I remember that being tricky, and to be honest I don't exactly remember what I did to get that one, I want to say we used a wrench from above (from the engine bay) or swivel sockets may have been used. I don't have anything fancier than that, sometimes you just need a different approach angle.
You don’t need a ecu megasquirt? The only reason I haven’t done this it because they tell me I need an 800$ ecu and a tune
If you keep boost low (id say max 8psi) you can get away without a different ecu, just more fuel and fuel pressure. Its not as reliable and probably wont make the same power as a proper ecu would, but it does work.
Same! I've been someone else running stock, I can't remember the channel/garage but the two guys with the Nissans, the reg cab is red white and black body panels and the solid red extended cab, the red ex cab I believe is factory ECM.
@@ericbest9562 that’s. Arizona truck.
@@ericbest9562 local losers ! TH-cam Chantelle
how did you figure all of this out? my stock motor is slow and id like to upgrade, but I have no experience.
Most of it I learned from the Local Losers 520 TH-cam channel, specifically their simple turbo series they did on their red truck. Stone Broke Garage has a great videos too that I learned from as well.
I would have went directly the battery
I love how you do it
I have a question how do you install the turbo
Would hood scoop bring more air in?
Yes and no. Yes more air could get into the engine bay with a scoop, but with the stock air intake setup it is designed to draw air from under the fender. If we had a different cold air intake of some kind, where it was designed to draw from under the hood, then yes a scoop would be beneficial.
My name is also Jon(athan) I also love D21s, working on my own stuff and drifting too! Are we related? lol :D Just found your channel today!
That's awesome!
Dooope, my name is also Jon (Jonathan) and i always loved d21’s. Last had one 10yrs ago, then in the past year picked up two of them lol 91 with a KA and 88 with a NapsZ. Still have my turbo napsZ from my truck 10yrs ago too
How is your clutch holding up? I’m trying to do a replacement and wondering what clutch do to, kinda skeptical about that one.
So far so good, but I only have maybe 1000-2000 miles on it.
I got a Fox well NT630 pro with abs airbag and SAS for steering calibration that I got from E bay for around hundred dollars or so , , Have not tried the steering calibration yet , but it looks I made A great buy if do , I only bought it too fix ABS did not know it could calibrate steering when i bought it , Has Anyone else Done the calibration with a scanner or are you having a shop do it , and how much $ just too calibrate?
The first car I did, a friend calibrated it with some snapon unit they had, the last time I did one a dealership calibrated it for $100. (side note, they are such finicky sensors, I do not claim to be an expert on them, they can be super frustrating)
Vacuum lines need to be working for turbo or would it affect some type of way
Not all of them are necessary with emissons deleted, but yes if you have a vacuum leak it will run poorly.
whered did you get that air filter box?? i need one
The intake top hat piece? That's from a late 90's early 2000's Chevy 4.3l found in the S10, Blazer, Sonoma etc. I just drilled holes to fit the hardbody throttle body and plugged the little tube breather it has.
What oil do you run?
Right now I'm running Shell Rotella T6 5w40
dude, this was super helpful, thanks a ton, my dude!
Glad it helped!
Is the truck TBI or MPI?
MP
Love this video ! Love the truck ! You did a great job sir! I'm turbo charging my hardbody in a couple months. Between you and the local losers, I'm confident I can make it happen. Thanks for the video would love to see more ! Well done
Thanks I appreciate it! You're gonna love the turbo on your truck! Also, definitely watch my video with the fuel pump upgrade you'll want that, Best of luck!
How's the truck doing today ? Still holding up ?
My hard line is leaking air but not fluid..... Looks like I need 71"Stainless steel line to go from master to slave I don't see anything online I'm really bummed..... If you have the original Nissan fly wheel I would stick with it As well as the pressure plate..... There's a lot of bad parts out there....
That's a bummer, sorry I have no clue where youd have to get that part from. Fortunatley I haven't hit any issues with slave or master cylinder... yet. I've got my stock flywheel still, and I held onto the stock pressure plate just in case, I'm all too familiar with bad "new" parts
nice..... Does anyone know Where to get a 1 pc clutch line master to slave or if there is a kit and you just cut it to the length you want?😂😂😂😂
You need to turn the power up on the CB very easy to do you will get a lot more out of it
why would you put a turbo on that truck. Great way to ruin the engine.
Must not know the abuse ka's can take 😂
