Thank you for this clip! It is just my typical luck, before 2009 i spent a fortune on computers that failed prematurely or were running unreliable. I went to mac and had the same mbp for ten years and no problems of the sort. When I finally decided to upgrade I figured I could save a buck and go back to windows. So I bought a dell xps 15” because it had a good display for my photography. It ran fine for six or seven months and I was quite happy with it, infact it did all i could ever ask for until this evening. All that happens is that the keyboard lights up and then.....nada. Just a word of warning to anyone out there with a Dell laptop who is watching this video... I had the previous version of this Dell laptop. It had a power on issue every now and then from very early on. I thought the issue was likely just a driver issue, a bug with Windows & Hibernate & Sleep mode, or with the power button itself. WRONG! Initially the issue was not that frequent, and eventually (after several presses on the power button) the laptop would boot. But after around 14 months it got to point where none of the tricks / hacks to get the laptop to boot worked. Then I go online and I find out from some blogs that DELL had shipped the early releases of that laptop with a motherboard that had a known power on issue. After 6 months the same laptop being sold with same name, description etc. actually had a newer version of the motherboard in it. Of course, they didn't tell any of their customers about that or do a factory recall for those that had purchased the earlier version etc. If I had known the actual issue from the beginning I could have got it fixed under warranty. But by only realising the issue after 14 months was too late and left me with a $3000 brick. Is a complete SCAM/RIP-OFF by Dell to be honest. If your laptop does not turn on - they can easily say oh is a static electricity problem or a driver issue or Windows. (and it could be that - or appear to be that - but what if it isn't) Do the various hacks (remove battery etc. etc.) and eventually your laptop may seem to be working fine again. But months down the line when your warranty has expired the problem may arise again and if none of the workarounds help then you are screwed. cheers JB

Shitty QA from Dell? There are a lot of problems with the Dell XPS 15 (and not only) including the infamous "unable to wake up display after sleep" problem, the existence of which Dell continuously denies for years now. My Dell XPS 15 9570 just failed too. The replacement of the motherboard is 180 EUR and that is without mandatory diagnostics (approx. 100 EUR). Absolute shit! I regret buying Dell and this feeling started a couple of months after I bought it (the sleep problem mentioned above). I was a fool not to return it and get my money back. Now it's too late.
My XPS 9560 had the same problem. The power adapter was loose (maybe due to kids bumping it); it just slides in and out, without snapping in like it should. I plugged my XPS 9550 power adapter into it, and it started up correctly. That power adapter feels just as loose, but appears to make contact better. When I booted using the 9560 power adapter, the BIOS said the power adapter could not be detected. The battery charge was at about 1% when it booted up. So it appears the problem is the power adapter is not making the connection sufficiently. I'll try bending its contacts very slightly, or replacing it.
Same thing has happened to my 9550. Although to be fair it is 5.5 years old now and I'm using a third party battery, which may well be contributing to the problem. I wish it was easier to buy genuine batteries from dell at a reasonable price!
I am having similar problem. It was all ok n suddently i had black screen. When i press power button the button itself lights up and can see keyboard backlight. If i press D key alongwith power button upon starting up i see red green blue white n black screen. What Should i do. I removed battery n cmos still nothing
I had to send it in to Dell for repair. basically the port broke :/. Actually happened a second time last month, and instead of using the regular power cable to plug into the standard port I used a USB Type-C power cable to plug into the USB Type-C port. I bought it separately.
So nothing happened to my computer I just shut it off for the night full power off then in the morning I go to power it on the light turns on until I take my finger off the power button then the light turns off
@@PhoneBattles so my dad thinks it was a power surge causing it to stop working because we replaced the motherboard and it still doesnt work its something to do with the power button itself
Dell's use cheap components to lower the manufacturing price, that's why they dont last anymore. I'd recommend a desktop, they are cheaper, more powerful, and easy to upgrade.
I had this trouble with mine but discovered it would successfully drive an external screen via hdmi. I also discovered that if I just switched the laptop on and did nothing, the screen would eventually come on after 20-30 minutes. After that I could power off and on or close and open the lid and it would still work. That is after it had been off overnight and the same problem was back. I eventually talked to a Dell out of warranty support representative who said he had never come across this exact situation before. However he talked me through the D key and power on and the display diagnostic worked but then as the screen had already been activated that day it didn't prove anything. He also took me through some diagnostics using another key and power on (sorry I cannot remember which). He finally apologised that he could not help and took me through the returns procedure. Fortunately I held off from doing that. Ever since that the laptop has performed normally. This may not be the case for everyone of course but I have posted this to say "Don't give up". At least try talking to Dell.
