- If you watched the series you will understand my statement, do you want me to dig in and find out what the real problem is, take not that it will be to learn something and not to repair it per say, it was after all only a running Yard Art tractor, it do no work
Good morning Jan
Good Evening Gary 🍔
Good evening Jan.
Good evening Ed🌭🌮
Good morning Jan.
Dad had a lifetime of experience with Farmalls. I think sometimes Farmalls just want to test us.
Usually when we are ready to use them.
Thank you Jan.
I think You got it right Bryce, i should no wait so long to try start it
I suspect the ballast resister Jan. The backfire is the clue. They provide just enough spark to fire but not enough to run.
Hi Matt, at this point I bypassed the resistor, thanks for your comment my friend
I agree with Dan and others ! I’ve had engines to do the same at first start . It’s saying I’m waking up ,try me again , I might just run .
Very true what you say and Mr Dan's advice, my biggest fear that immensely hard shot meters away from my tractor, someone will call the cops, it is really a 12 bore shot in real life my friend
Everything I was going to suggest is already in the comment section. Don't lose hope just yet 🙂
Thank You Chris, appreciate positive motivation my friend
Oh no Mr Jan, I am behind on the other videos so I may be out of text here. By chance have you gotten a plug wire crossed, or possibly the cap not oriented perfectly? Sounds so much like it's out of time by firing at the wrong time. Possibly could be a bent push rod, a valve could have stuck when you started it the first time and possibly bent a rod that way. I am leaning towards firing order issues though. I sure hope it's something simpley friend! I am going back to watch the other videos this weekend to see what I missed. Thank you sir and I know that head in your hands feeling 😥 Hopefully it works out 😁😁👍👍🤞🤞🤞
Thanks Cuz, appreciate your comment, I will double check the rotor orientation since Farmalls have a very loose fit to that, somewhat a weird set-up
Backfire can just happen..
Seemed like the valves all moved with the mallet, could just be valve adjustment. Would be a good place to start... And check timing, just to make sure..
Always think of the cheap and easy first, rule it out before going past it.
Thank You Ed, I never messed with the valve gaps, it just may be that it needs adjusting due to temperatures and the fact that I sit at sea level and it was last adjusted probably in USA or where the tractor worked here in SA at 4500 meters above sea level, thanks
@@jankotze1959 any time the head is off and put back on, or after so many hours of running, the valve gap should be checked and adjusted if needed.
Definitely worth checking!!
Quite the Puzzle You have on your hands Jan. I Believe a Strong Backfire is almost always caused by a Timing issue of some sort, Could Even be 1 accidentily Crossed plug wire ? or a clogged exhaust. Go Back to the Begining, make a Check List and Double Check Everything electrical. Also, a Engine with a Blown Head Gasket Will Still Start. It will Run Terrible but will start. So Before jumping to taking the Head off, I would take the valve cover off again, Disconect the Battery, and Crank the engine watching the valves movement. See for SURE if they all move properly. I Absolutely Know You Will find the answer to the Mystery....Just Trying to Help... Good Luck My Friend.
Thank You Dan, all the rockers move when I crank the engine, I start to question my own placement on the plug wires although I marked it and it is somewhat faded, at least I know it got fuel, so it must be electric or a serious disintegrated top gasket, just guessing, will double check again, thanks for your believe in me
It seems more like a electrical issue either the timing is out or plug wires mixed up. I would do a compression test before pulling the head. Just read the other comments and many are saying similar
You got it Chris, a compression test is now the best starting point, I did not think of that, thanks for the tip
Keep trying its got all the gas in the cylinders from not having the battery hooked up
Whao that is a big possibility, thanks for the valuable advice
Just wondering if you have a spark plug wire crossed. Hope you get it figured out Jan. Thanks and take care
Hi Lloyd, that is most probably not the problem since I have it marked with tape from about three year ago, BUT, thanks for the heads up, I will double check for sure, you never know
The carb definitely needed the servicing you gave it Jan !! Others have covered most all the bases with their comments. But before I'd pull the head you gotta think if it ran before with no major changes, it should run again. So just the routine steps to check prior to a first startup would be my choice. I'd move #1 to TDC on compression and work backwards. There should be a mark on the flywheel that indicates that position. They should match up. Then find the firing mark BTDC on the flywheel and double check that the mag snaps at that point for #1. For some reason all the pressure generated by the charge is partially blowing out one of the valves indicating the ignition point of the charge is either advanced or delayed. Admittedly, I have missed the earlier videos so I really should watch those first...but did you by chance do anything to get the timing 180* out..?
Hi Wendell, firstly I will answer you in the order that you watched to video's and never ever changed the timing in the past 7 years, we have some rainy weather for the three days and will revert to it on hopefully Friday, thanks for your input my friend
I’m not convinced, that it’s something minor that is hiding in plain sight. I’m sure you’ll get to the bottom of it.
Thanks Rick, TH-cam is amazing, I start to gain convedance with all the positive comments
