What I don't understand is why arn't they building up the road and cutting a ditch with the grader. If the road is lower than the surrounding ground in the wet it becomes a lake because it is the low spot. In the dry season a couple of hours with the grader or excavator would eliminate the bog and make a usable road.
I take it you haven’t been up in the outback with a 50 ton load and road tires. It’s all clay. Doesn’t matter if you build it up, it still turns to worse than ice. We have taken trips around bad tracks and gone through higher places in the bush and we got stuck and nearly lost our cars. Clay is great in the dry, but in the wet, it has no bottom. Just a bottomless load of snot.

Why done they put some boggers or knobbies on the tractor for more grip, and rather some super thick balloon like tires on the trailers rather than duals? They act surprised when they try to pull all that weight through a 100 ft mud hole on worn street tires. If I knew that I’d be coming against those conditions, I’d try to equip the truck and trailers to be able to handle it as best as possible. Especially if the majority of their miles are on dirt. If someone could help me understand why they don’t, I’d appreciate it!
@@pSavage04 heavy vehicle laws here are very strict and they’re probably not allowed on any roads without the right tyres so even if they’re on dirt %90 of the time then the other %10 they’re illegal
While most people say that they needed AWD truck and off road tires which I would agree, but there's a lot more factors here. One being money as AWD trucks are more expensive and have more moving parts and then you have maintenance ( though if it's a disengageable front axle you don't need to drive in 6x6 mode all the time). Well, off road tires, we don't know how long their trips are and how much % of that is tarmac and dirt, but everything comes down to cost and reliability. Super single tires perform better off road than dual tires but you risk having a flat tire and you don't want that out in the middle of nowhere. In the end, the better solution is to have a better road maintenance, mark the spots where water gathers and make a sink.
Well said! So many factors to consider when choosing a truck, and the roads in Aus are very different depending where you are, you just gotta prepared as best you can before each trip
I always wonded how is profitable to supply these remote areas with few people. Is this government sponsored transport? Delivery costs must be very high. Fuel, manhours, maintenance,...

It’s not that easy. We have people miles away from any where. To make a road will cost billions of dollars and will only help 400 people, then you will have to spend the same to make a road to the next town of 200 people . We learn to accept that things take time to deliver and are also happy to help out to get the load in.
Come out and have a look at our roads....going from the coast to centre is like driving to mars lol...and majority of time the closest man made thing is satellites going overhead
It costs millions of dollars to repair these roads every year after the wet season. Authorities should have them closed at these times. It's insane that tax payers have to foot the bill for this.
Which times would that be? The rain times and volume of rain don’t give people a heads up weeks in advance. Dirt roads always need maintenance anyways especially with all the heavy equipment needed to be moved around. It costs much more money to lay bitumen everywhere. We could afford that though if we taxed the multinationals the way we tax the average punter.
