    Always useful and always great Corey. This one is a lightbulb moment for me in that we can change major pentatonics for each chord, and not use simply the major pentatonic of the major key of the tune. I kind of knew it, but I don’t think I’d ever heard it articulated before. Awesome dude.

    • @coreycongilio
      @coreycongilio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Jonathan. Glad you’re enjoying this. I’m not changing scales here btw, I’m using the A major pentatonic and targeting notes per each chord. Didn’t wanna confuse ya.

    Whew! One more example of why I am so grateful that Leo Fender toiled away in his garage all those years ago. Corey, for a 'non-Strat' guy, you are quite the Strat guy. Corey, been watching since Eric showed off your skills during the pandemic, thanks for all the knowledge and lessons. I truly enjoy your style of teaching! I tried a bunch of strats, couldn't find a home. I ended up with a G&L Comanche, over their S500, and damn is it versital, from strat to Muddy buckers it's awesome. If you haven't tried one pick one up and play it. Bass and treble gain. I'm a G&L snob now and their quality is amazing, even overseas models. Tribute (Indonesia models) have american pickups. Keep up the good work.

You obviously have the talent/knowledge to feel it, but you always know you are landing where you need to be. For us lesser players----->Do you also play through melody/licks and if you feel or it sounds like you are not on the right note for the chord- you just quickly move it, right? Inevitably if it sounds 'off' it will immediately should sound 'on' after moving it one note.

      I have a basic knowledge of music theory… I know the ‘Caged system’ very well and can get around on the Fretboard. I understand basic theory such as 1-4-5 with the relative Minor.
      I would say I am an intermediate player, but I do not know how to spice things up more in my blues playing… I would like to take a course that has a lot of details on understanding how to add arpeggio scales and arpeggiations along with bluesy 6 and 9 chords to add to the 7’s! Along with three note triads to better help my individual playing but also to help me to accompany other players.

    The A major pentatonic scale has the same notes as F# minor pentatonic except you start on A rather than F# (correct?). As you point out there is not a D note in so you can use F# and A for the D Chord and also no G# for use with the E chord. So, in the case of E could you slide from the G# to the B? Also, could you start on the A note, use the D note as a passing/ghost note and then go to the F#?

      It also seems to me that the only sharps are F# and C#. That makes me think this is actually a key of D run

      Yes, Amajor and F#minor are relative meaning they contain the same notes. Slide in and out of whatever notes you like as long as it sounds good! The point of this lesson is that you can’t lose by using this line

      @@edwardgodfrey7002 It's a pentatonic scale so doesn't have the 7th degree, in this case G#. But the chords are clearly spelling out A major. If you played in D you'd have a G natural which would sound weird in this context. Part of the reason why pentatonics are so great.

    For not being a "strat" guy,you sure make that one sound pretty darn good.....but then again,something tells me that you could make a broom stick and a single piece of rope sound good!

      @@coreycongilio I was worried that might be the case. I had it myself two weeks ago. Glad that you're feeling better. It's no fun. I didn't have any of the nasty chest congestion, but the fever, the body aches, the malaise, etc., just sucked.

    Good lesson! Not a massive fan of the Stratoc sound 80% of the time - too pingy and oinky for me.
