That is a little dramatic- but I hear what you are saying. This was a great lesson. I am guessing you have been playing SONGS, but not guitar. There is a big difference. I am guilty of the same. I memorize about 100 songs, and scales, etc. but did not really know what I was doing.

@@MOAB-UT naw. I’ve been writing songs for years. I was stuck in the minor pentatonic mindset for a large portion of that time. This lesson changed that for me. It was three years ago when I made this comment. I still hold to it. I’ve progressed a lot in my understanding of improvisation since. This lesson in particular opened a door that needed to be opened for me.

This is one of the most important gifts to mankind playing the blues. I drive crazy, that even experienced g-players don.t know or ignore this fundamental goals. Even those, who have a little knowledge in harmonics, deny the importance of mixing both patterns. I.m so in touch with Justin Guitars to show us, how it works. Thanks, kind regards, Henry 😊

Of course, now it's clear, why you can't marry the A-Maj-pent with the D-Chord. It seems so simple, but you nailed it ! Thanks a lot, Mr. Justin Guitar!!! I feel sooo unchained from an old burden!

Hi Justin and thanks for everything you do...
My name is John, Dan Under is a pseudonym...
I'm nearly 71 and have played chords on and off (mostly off) at times during my life but never really took learning seriously... until now...
I've watched a few of your videos in recent months while looking for someone to help guide me and then I saw you teaching the guy at Andertons so I signed up with your site yesterday but haven't begun to try and work out where to begin. I have learned the basics of pentatonic scales and then I stumbled on this video. I've watched it 3 times and tried to play along with you and I've found that I can play better than I ever thought possible but I realise that I've got a long way to go and it will require some serious commitment but this video has already made it a fun thing to do... I'm also an Englishman by birth but now an Australian who's retired so plenty of time on my hands so long as I live long enough ;)
PS I was a professional roadie for many years in the 70s and 80s and never thought it was possible for me to play like those guys and maybe I won't but I'd like to have fun trying and hopefully find a bunch of older guys to jam with one day...
So, thanks a million for what you do :)

One of the best tutorials I've seen explaining these blues changes and how and why they worked. I'd spent years noodling around the minor pentatonic and somehow found it's melodic relationship to the major. But it was accidental and still a mystery. It also opened my eyes/ears to the BB box and more country style possibilities....but although i could hear it working, I wasn't entirely sure what I was doing. I wish I'd seen this video years ago. It's like switching a light on and makes those positions and why they work very clear! Thank you!

Justin made 2 points ( among many others) that I take to heart.
First give yourself plenty of time to absorb even a tiny bit of new information. I have to repeat and practice even a small adjustment for at least 2 weeks before I can get it almost right in a jam session.
Second never ever signal to other musicians that what they are doing sucks. Make suggestions for a slightly different way of doing things...There are sadly plenty of a**holes out there who will take any opportunity to be sarcastic..ignore them and move to people you are comfortable with.

I came here and I found what I was looking for. I’ve been the last three weeks going between major and minor on the basic 145 progression. And I was constantly hearing sour notes. And you just explained why, and you also gave me an option to going to another position such as the 4 chord major pentatonic, over the 4. Now I have to really train my ear to hear the changes and pay more attention to them.
And I’m actually visualizing the fretboard and how the major and minor are connected. With the chords. And☝️ I i’m starting to visualize the triads within the scales.
    Appreciate this much needed lesson!

The minor third (C) that you said sounds nice on top of a major 7th chord is actually the augmented ninth note from the A79+ chord, usually called the Hendrix chord and found in a lot of early jazz blues tunes. This will clear some confusion that many people including me asked in the past..."how comes that we play a minor scale on top of a major chord?”
To recap: when playing the A minor pentatonic on top of an A7 chord we are actually playing a pentatonic sequence which includes the root , the augmented ninth (9+), forth, fifth and seventh of a major dominant scale (mixolydian), so you don’t play the ninth, the major third and the sixth. For guitar players is easier to just say "minor pentatonic" because of the box position system but is different for piano and saxophone players and academic jazz guitar players (no offence intended). You can “combine” this with a major third and end up with a cool “scale”. In ascending order: A C D E G A C C# E G A C (C#).
    I like your videos anyway :-) !

14:39 Well put! That really connected with me and I need every reminder to keep practicing my ear in this way. Been playing long enough the ‘‘ol fingers know the scales. This is the advice for the next stages. THANK YOU Justin 🙏

Thanks Justin, you've just explained, in three YT episodes, something I had 'felt' but not really understood, in 50+ years of playing blues-style guitar. I now know when its OK to play those "blue" notes, and why. Thanks again. ;-)
