No More Tears is my go-to album. I think it's the best produced album of that era. I probably listened to it 50,000 times. I know every nook, cranny, and nuance of it. I just can't get enough of that fat and wide Zakk Wylde guitar sound - and the solos are amazing. Great job on the reproduction! Sounds awesome! I need one of those Yamaha SPX90's!

If you can;t find an SPX the Yamaha Magicstomp has all the SPX effects plus many more new ones. It's an amazing pedal.

I’m sorry I’m so late, but I just wanted to say that I think No More Tears is the pinnacle of Zakk’s playing, songwriting, tone, everything

You can find symphonic preset in virtually any yamaha gear: rev5, rev7, spx50d, spx990, spx1000. I think there is no difference between them soundwise.

Zack is nothing original, pieced together by left over bodies struggling to keep their jobs...Zak is far better then what they made him with Ozzy although he himself loved Randy...he was picked cause of his hair.

Believe it or not Zakk used to live 8 miles down the road from me in Jackson NJ and his bass player John DeServio lived a few blocks away in a town I used to live in Called Cliffwood Beach NJ. Zakk reintroduced the craziness ozzy needed in a guitar sound. No Rest is a great album, with a maniacal guitar tone. I appreciate the subtle techniques he displayed on that album. Randy was great, i enjoy listening to Randy's tweaks underneath or set back behind his main hooks. I enjoy listening to what he's doing during Ozzy's vocal verses and choruses...even the subtle nuances during his solos. Randy and Zakk are where it's at for me. Taking nothing from Lee at all of course! And....it's possible that I have no idea what I am talking about! Love your videos btw!

You should probably update your re-creation videos in some way and upload them again as your channel grows. We've all heard that most TH-cam videos get their greatest number of views in the first 72 hours after they're uploaded. The hard work you've put into these videos should be rewarded, and the results of your research shown to any new subscribers who tend not to go back and watch old videos. I always go back ad watch older videos on channels I like, but many people simply do not.

CIRCLE OF TONE. Q1; I was taught to use a TD808 the RIGHT WAY by a studio engineer; turn the gain just enough to get signal through, & nearly max the volume knob.
      If it’s a model with a Q, or whatever,?go ahead & tweak it.
Point was, it’s NOT about opening the gain up. So, have you thought of trying that with your COT Dirt box? Good job on the NMTs vid!

You may have already thought of this but just in case...If you are getting demonetized by copyright holders due to use of certain tracks you should try making 2 videos for each Circle of Tone subject. Make a short video where you recreate the tone using backing tracks and what not that will get demonetized and link it to a second longer video with your background and technical information that you can monetize. Love the channel, good luck!

I honestly love EMG passives. The actives are great for full blast distortion non stop, but I find the EMG passives are versatile with a ton of headroom, but can really growl without sounding harsh. They are kicked-around-kid of pickups, but I love mine. I wish they came in a 7 string version for my 7 string explorer knock off

I read an interview with Zakk around the time no more tears was released. He said he was the only one who can play his gutar, if some was to pick up his guitar and play it..there would be just feed back. Great vid man you got pretty close technically the sound was there man. Randy was awsome as as a guitarist his my favorite. I never thought of it really being happy haha I was always thinking what he was playing. Zakks sound is a blow away tho. My main guitar (only one playable at the moment) is an Ibanez RG. I have been a Strat player my whole life (not conscientiously preferred, but somehow keep coming back to them) and I never thought of Ibanez as an option years ago, but the RG is basically a Super-Strat and they made this thing out of my favorite wood: ASH. My other two Strats are ash bodies but they have the "vintage" frets and those frets are completely worn to nothing. This thing is awesome! The stock pickups are great even though I put a Lace Senor Nitro Hemi in the bridge (Might order one of yours if you got a ceramic magnet humbucker with coil-tapping or call up Becky Lawrence to see if they still have XL500's), it's wired with one of those 5 way super switches so the HSH has a lot of duel-single-coil Strat tones, It's got a HARDTAIL (people are demanding them so take a note FENDER!), jumbo frets (which my meat paws love), natural finish (tung oil I believe) and a 24 fret wizard II neck that's nice and wide (could use a taper or maybe a 10" radius at the lower frets for open chords or a 12-18 compound would be PERFECT for my mitts). I think Ibanez has stepped it way up to make guitars for the consumer and not just their pride (like Gibson and Fender these days).
Don't get me wrong, I love Fender (I even named my first born son after Leo), but those days are long and gone... These corporate monopolies and international conglomerates are egotistical and CEO's and the suits of companies love to stoke their egos with pride as the lubrication. I know I ain't telling you anything you already didn't know but THEY (like sociopaths, psychopaths and narcissists) believe if they have the $$$ then they are entitled to tell you what you want, because as the consumers, in their eyes "are not intelligent enough to know what's best because we are too stupid to get ahead instead of living paycheck to paycheck", we are not capable of deciding for ourselves on what we want or need and we should be grateful the CEO's (whom are "great visionaries") have taken their precious and valuable time to decide what's best for us commoners with our room temperature IQ's...
Sorry, next time I will keep it short and without any of my frustration filled rants (especially going off on anything you haven't heard time and time again).
I will now say this: these other guitar companies and and guys like you have now a great opportunity to get your piece of the market while the giants backs are turned. You have a great channel and even though I never personally tested anything you have manufactured, I can tell you have pride in the art of the electric guitar not pride in your EGO.
So with that said: I hope you steal that "golden goose" and run with it. I hope you and anyone else getting into the market, I hope you all give them all hell!

I love Zakk Wylde's style of playing. Granted a lot of it comes across as just Kirk Hammet on steroids, but with pinch harmonics instead of a wah wah pedal so I can understand some of the criticism of it I've seen, but then I think it's because his style was so aggressive and unique in the 80's that it became the stereotype once the Van Halen tapping phase had passed. Can't blame the guy for that, lol.
I really like your videos man, it's blatantly obvious you really do your homework on this stuff and it's a joy to see and hear.

Kirk Hammer has the worst vibrato I've ever heard of a metal guitarist.
It's the equivalent of the caprino(goat) vibrato in opera, resultant of poor breath support.
Zakk has a really wide and consistent vibrato. Sounds like a man playing. While Kirk sounds like an unsure prepubescent boy.

Andybaby They probably used expensive preamps and compressor on the way in. It’s glorious. It may not be possible to get that quality in the mix. I’m not sure to be honest.

I think Michael Wagener had also brought in a 2555 Silver Jubilee during this session.

  • @DoctorRed79

Fine work my friend. Keep playing the slide. It can open up a lot of new sounds. You gotta relax the wrist and ease on top of the frets. Play lazy, but in tune (listen more, look less?) I really like Randy Rhoads as a pure guitarist ("Mr. Crowley" is the song I identify most with the Rhoads era). Zakk is my favorite for multiple reasons. He was a virtual unknown that put in the work and it shined through with Ozzy. I have a love/hate relationship with EMG's. It's pre-fab tone and I have to admit it sounds great with this style of production. Had a Neal Schon guitar that looked way worse than that Ibanez, but it sounded soooo good with those stupid EMG's. I don't know what basement you dug that UREI out of, but what an awesome find. The mic under the cab was a brilliant idea for getting the low frequency chunk to ring out. I hope the studio magic illuminati doesn't come looking for you after sussing out so many tricks (I wouldn't be too worried, they're probably too busy trying to prove who makes the greatest A/D converter or coming up with new "trick" shortcuts on protools anyway). Excellent as always, Ian. You rock!

yeah some higher gain pups are fine to me. i'm still not the biggest emg fan but their okay. i even prefer the blackouts from duncan over emg's but that's because i'm a seymour duncan fan. it's also peronal from ear to ear offcourse. but no rest for the wicked and esspecially no more tears, great sounding records. there where some killer killer songs on no rest for the wicked, tatood dancer is so zakk. when zakk didn't overdo pinch harmonics , he used them to his advantage.

      @CIRCLEOFTONE  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Ken Greenman that’s what this chan is all about. Keep you tinkering! I’ve owned lots of ibanez. Including MIJ prestige etc. Not a fan. Ive noticed most ibanez users tend to use a lot of gain and high output bare knuckle pickups because they sound insipid with more dynamic lower output pups.
But they are fast/easy to play so it’s a tradeoff. .

I'll just need a 4k monitor then haha. Still there's definitely a really big noticeable bump in the quality at 1080. Wicked camera :) Have you looked into Premiere Pro? There's a learning curve there but if you can tough it out it's actually a breeze to work in.

Blimps In Space I don’t fancy spending $30 a month for that. I just upgraded premier elements to handle 4k. I keep my vids simple. I’m buying camera gear to make the shots better. Like micro lenses, lighting and smooth panning attachments. So my 12 days of Hexmas vids should all look great.
