Funny thing is, most People did this by accident
Another cool thing about the time save here is that it actually saves double your total time since you have to go that route twice - for Swimming Beast in the Cavern and for the metal cap course.
Gonna have to give this a go when I get to Hazy Maze Cave in the All Stars collection.
Just be careful not to go too far to the left you lift go off the island and need to use Dorry

@Glitch Shorts: That also works in 3D all-stars for Nintendo switch, and considered how old the game his, that might not be considered a glitch, because that his just cause by the interaction, because the wall and the floor his too thin, and also because in Super mario 64 getting crush by non-enemies does not damage mario, also if your in the cave with the lake, look up, you will see square holes in the celling, for the light to come out, so when you do that clip you come out of one of does square holes, also it as to be intended because with that same elevator instead of being on the floor bellow be on the floor above, you can just jump over the wall to do the same, just a little bit more risk involve with that method because if your not align properly you can hit a death trigger. In Super mario 64DS it does not work anymore because elevator crush you and you take damage, however in Super mario 64 DS they are different glitch that can make you reach that area faster.
Gotta try this for sure. It's not cheating, it's just more efficient :)
I accidentally did this glitch when I was a kid. I thought the elevator malfunctioned or something.

Seriously, you have to go to that same cavern 3 times for 3 different stars (lumping the Metal Cavern here) and MAYBE a fourth time to get coins for the 100 coin star. Assuming you do all those stars without dying.
That's my least favorite thing about Mario 64. Despite loving it, I now kinda hate how often you have to travel the same paths in multiple levels over and over again! It'd be kinda awesome to see a mod of this game where they allow you to stay in the level after collecting a normal star like how it does with 100 coin stars (similar to, of course, Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie and Odyssey).
If you do a sm64 speedrun trick every day were covered for 2021.
Its crazy how much goes into sm64 speedruns.
Theres a reason why its the nr 1 speedrun game.

You may have heard of hazy mazy cavey from Chuggaaconroy, but when I was a kid I used to call it haze maze cave, huh, it sounded better in my head
And here I go calling it HMC like Pannen does in his videos.
