@@chaos4316 There’s a couple “Best Ed Solo” videos that just show clips of him not playing guitar. Due too there being a good handful of Radioheads discography not needing 3 guitars, Ed gets put on a percussive instrument or something yknow. Ed doesn’t mind.
@@LightningJosue figures. He’s never pretended he’s something he’s not though. Just gives Radiohead that necessary ingredient… can’t say I’m a fan of his solo stuff though. It’s lacking.
My favorite guitar player ever. Subtle, accurate, creative, great tone, great atmosphere, is there when he needs to be and not when he doesnt. He's ireplacable, both in studio and on stage.
Ed's a focused, skilled and intelligent musician and sonic artist who creates some of the most emotive soundscapes on Radiohead's songs. They're an incredible band with a combination of talents operating where they're strongest, with all five members working hard to keep their egos in check with one another, which helps account for their ability to keep innovating at such a high level, as well as their astounding longevity in the music industry.
Ed is the beautiful glue that holds the sonic landscape together. He's also the guitarist that propels the band depending on the song. He definitely adds a layer that wouldn't exist without him and he provides the great backing vocals.
14:22 - wow thats actually Ed on the studio version as well?? Fuck thats gotta be one of my favorite moments off AMSP. I love the textures he adds to the songs, they dont even sound like guitars. Also the weird glitchy guitar he does on Morning Bell is one of my favorite bits of their whole discog overall. Ed is awesome
We all know and appreciate Thom and Jonny brilliance, but it's just as interesting to see how Ed, Phil and Colin adapted and found their place in the band since Kid A.
All of the best radiohead moments include Ed's gutar parts. You can never notice it, but it's always there. I rarely paid attention to Ed on stage, but this video has showed me how important he is and made me appreciate Ed even more 👏🏻
I intended it at first, but including the studio version would have probably caused the video to be removed, and the very few live performances of Treefingers don't put the emphasis on Ed.
Ed's playing on songs like Exit Music and How To Disappear Completely is nothing short of sublime. May seem simple but it requires a lot of skill and discipline to pull off. Ed's work is so subtle and precise that you may not even realize you're hearing it at times but that just shows how effectively he blends into the ensemble.
I love all the musicians in Radiohead. They all offer something just right for band. Ed adds so much texture to theor sound. Even his background vocals are perfect. His background vocals on Wierd Fishes/Arpeggi are phenomenal. I love them as much as Thoms vocals. But, that is what Ed does, he adds so much in the background without taking over.
What a lovely video. Thank you! :-) I was hoping it wouldn't be yet another bad faith jibe and wasn't disappointed. I think a lot of people who are (understandably for sure) excited for all Jonny's angular chromatic histrionics compare him to Ed's stuff cruelly. Radiohead doesn't need two Jonnys. It would be insane and over-busy. Radiohead owes so much of its ambience and texture to Ed's guitar playing.
So happy to read that you intended to include the basement version of videotape. The cascading part in that song is one of my favorite things he does live and it's so underrated. I wish that part was in the studio version, but with everything else the same in it.
Great video. I would add in meeting in the aisle (which he also wrote), the wall of sound at the end of blow out, and the atmosphere he adds to bullet proof
Quien sea que se haga llamar fan de Radiohead y conozca a la banda lo suficiente sabe bien que Ed es una pieza fundamental en las maravillosas canciones.
they don't really, alteast from my observation he's just joked about cause a lot of the stuff he does isnt flashy, he usually kneels down and tinkers with the pedal board or what machine is needed. He's a VERY integral part to radiohead's sound though so anyone who says he is a useless member is dead wrong
I don't think this might be a thoughtful statement....a band member isn't there to prove his or her existance (at least for the listeners ya know). They are there to create art. If I go by your logic, every band members can be replaced except the vocalist cos it's easy to mimic someone's distinctive style. I mean I can play Jonny's glockenspiel part in No Surprises. That doesn't mean he's easily replacable. It's all about the creative output inside the band and we listeners will never know how it works.
Maybe because he’s an excellent guitar player, singer and musician who brings a lot of his personality into the music? That and maybe being a great dude that the other guys want to keep in the band? for example.
He does so much sound design live - if you were to remove his parts, youd be watering down Radiohead. He is vital. He is more a sound artist than guitarist in the band.
Radiohead is the only band where all members are underrated.
let down is the most underrated member

Finally, an actual, non-joke video about him. Poor lad.
I heard he is actually a quite rich lad. . .
I’m under a rock. What’s the joke? I just bought this dudes guitar. Thought he was a great bloke. Complements the band well.

@@chaos4316 I heard about it but didn’t know his solo work was out. Yes tho Ed is integral and needed to make the sauce vibrant
The fact that ed composed the main riff to fade out shows how hes an amazing guitarist even though he is often the backup-backup guitar lmao
Ed didn’t write the riff to that song, Thom wrote it but Ed played it.
Jonny Greenwood: Lead Guitar
Thom Yorke: Rhythm Guitar
EOB: Ambience Guitar
So true. Perfect trio
Exactly. Jonny is the virtuoso of RH but Ed deserves so much more credit for what he puts to it.
He’s the sauce
And if he were in any other band besides RH, Ed would be the Jonny of it.
Yep !
My favorite guitar player ever. Subtle, accurate, creative, great tone, great atmosphere, is there when he needs to be and not when he doesnt. He's ireplacable, both in studio and on stage.
perfect comment
What I like so much about him is that he’s not afraid to take a backseat to the other two guitars. He doesn’t overdo anything.
His guitar playing is what gives Radiohead its sound. There is no Radiohead without EOB.

Thom: Rhythm guitar + lead vocals
Jonny: lead guitar and every other instrument ever made
Ed: lead orgasm creator
A video of Ed singing parts in radiohead concerts would be nice!!!

For years I've been saying I'd love for Ed to make a fully ambient album!
one of the reason i love Radiohead is they amazing guitar sounds and how creative they are
I love when Ed comes in subtly at near the end of Pyramid Song live. Makes the live version that much better than the album even
Treefingers is a solo Ed song, should have been here
I intended it at first, but including the studio version would have probably caused the video to be removed, and the very few live performances of Treefingers don't put the emphasis on Ed.

One of my favorite songs, best version I've found is Glastonbury 03
i actually think it's intentional? like thom signing out of key and tune adds to how messed up the song sounds.
There's not Radiohead's sound without Ed. You can see it in the separate works of Thom and Jonny. There's something messing without him.
