- Los Angeles on April 1st 1998 - Dedicated to Nigel Godrich so he can hear it and you can hear it. This is the first performance of How To Disappear Completely... and Never be Found.
Thom Yorke:
Alright, this next song, ah.
This next song is a benefit for the benefit of the bootleggers.
But mostly it’s for ah. Mostly its for Nigel, our producer/engineer. So he can hear it, and you can hear it.
This song is called. This song is called, if we get it right, this song is called How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found.
Crowd: Yay.
Copyright is Radiohead.
P.S. sorry about the misspelling in the video.

It’s just a song, why are you crying?
The song:
what if hypothetically i had something in my eye
Holy shit, this version is just as beautiful as the Kid A version. I wish there was a higher quality recording of this tho :(
i'm pretty sure that someone will make this clean someday with A.I.
give this song the john lennon treatment
this is pretty high quality?
@@titanicf0gnot enough!
@@joaoflpeai so far is very obvious and sounds bad
This is what happen if htdc released in ok computer album
the song was written after the album released
@@K0NGsure it was written after but the instrumentation is much more okc-like than the final version (or anything else on kid a for that matter)
kiryus main song after losing nishiki
And yes, you've just been present at the first playing of a masterpiece
5:45 wow, the piano addition (kinda sounds like a guitar too lol) is absolutely gorgeous. i wish they added this in the official release.
“I know what I’ve seen, you throw me out and send me back again” is a part I wish was in the original as well, perfect transition which matches the later lines “Fireworks and blown speakers, strobe lights and hurricanes”. It’s like an extended version of the song, giving extra context as to why he’s waiting, he’s had enough of it and lets her and this destructive cycle of the relationship goes, and that the moment to rectify this, in the present is long gone and in the future where ruminating and regretting that decision is pointless since it is final. They likely removed it due to the long run time and that it’s likely better removed to fit a wider context.
The other version could be Radiohead’s own experience with EMI, seeing everything and having to do all these concerts were posing them off, being down with the job and having to do it again under the contract.
@@theorangeoof926 Almost sounds like the line "you reel me out then you cut the string" from 15 step. Maybe they decided to recycle it for the later In Rainbows?
@@CL2- That’s actually a kind of interesting idea and I admit I couldn’t see the connection, but it is almost 9 years after the release of this demo to the publication of In Rainbows, implying that it could be coincidental.
@@theorangeoof926 That's true, but most of In Rainbows is made up of old demos that the band touched up later ("Reckoner" was one of the exceptions, some other ones, not too sure). So it's definitely a possibility that some lines came from this era of Radiohead
Could be wrong, but is it possibly a Rhodes piano? Hard to tell.
wonderful share; i love how thom acknowledges that the performance is gonna be shared and loved by bootleggers. the song seems mostly fully-formed--aside from some of the vocal flourishes that weren't completely necessary and the drifty piano lines that worked well enough as ornamentation but didn't really develop anywhere. and this version lacks the pivotal moment where thom goes into falsetto and matches the minor third decent on the ondes martenot, disappearing completely into the composition. but the rest of it is all there and working well, and that's pretty cool for a debut performance!
wonderful comment; you seem like a cool and nice person! 😁
I think this has helped me fully understand the hype around this song. I liked it before but . I'm speechless
Thank you for sharing this masterpiece
You are welcome.
Time takes care of the problem very nicely.
So raw and experimental, love it
shows the value of editing/engineering, even for a star as brilliant as Radiohead.
That there, that's not me
I go where I please
I float

Love that “blown speakers” and “hurricanes” are swapped here
@@olliejenkins5148or fireworks and strobe lights are swapped
What a treat. Thanks the Radiohead boys, as always.
sounds like a bends b side. phenomenal!
more like ok computer imo
so very curious to know the original format of this recording given the noise, has a sort of cassette tape vibe to it, IM IN LOVE, thanks for sharing :D
I forget the model, but it was a Sony microcassette tape recorder.
Damn, this dude was actually there. YOU ROCK @@DavidRamos-sr8cx
I’ve listened to this bootleg so many times
Absolutely beautiful version!
Ahh, this version…. Forever gladed for this upload, David. Thank you!
It's very interesting to see how a song I love developed to its final album stage. Like what were the first ideas they came up, which got scratched, which got changed and so on
True. But this is the recording that I fell in love with and obsessed over in '99. I had listened to this bootleg about 300 times by the time Kid A came out. The album version is lovely, but there is a certain raw energy in this one that went amiss in the studio... like with many of their songs
A glorious moment in history
Awesome! Radiohead being Radiohead
Don't worry. Worry is a killer. In a little while I'll be gone.
raw and beautiful
this is fucking beautiful
amazing
So pretty.
I want the lyrics to this song in this version
Cool
it sounds like it came off of the bends album
woh
im so late

THE RHODES SOLO
