I’d like to see what Chris could do with one of these too! Tim is just awesome though. I love how he’s always smiling as he talks about music and what he does with it. Very passionate about that he does. Does anyone know if he runs courses?
Great to hear Chris Buck get name checked here. Like Tim, his passion for all things guitar just shines thru and, like Tim, he has so little ego. His videos are there to entertain, inform and enthuse. And, like Tim, his playing is just phenomenal - each time I watch either of them, I just want to reach for me guitar and see what comes, inspired by them.
I concur. They both seem to genuinely love making the guitar into a very natural extension of expression. 💯 I came for the guitar and stayed for Pierce.👍 Nice one Tim! (I learned of your playing a few months ago and i like the way you play.)
I love Seal and Trevor Horn's incredible-production. Tracks like: Bring it on, Future love paradise, Touch (acoustic mix), Don't cry & Fly like an eagle - all phenomenal. He even did (2) Motown albums. I saw him live in NYC and it was fantastic.
I'd suggest looking into Stuart Matthewman....his production and band leader work with all SADE's albums, the 1st 2 at least Maxwell albums, as well as his own band Sweetback with partners in SADE's band: Paul Denham and Andrew Hale ,...Is also just phenomenal high level work.
What is it about Seal? I absolutely LOVE everything he does... I can't put my finger on it, I know, the songwriting, the production, the sound of his voice, etc., But there's a magical secret sauce that I just can't figure out that I love...
So happy to you did a video on this Tim! Ed stated when Radiohead was getting into more electronic style music (OK Computer era) he wondered what his contribution as a guitar player would be, and then had a dream of creating such a guitar and had a prototype built which became the guitar he used on tour. I was fortunate enough to get the EOB Stratocaster as my first real electric couple years back. I own a few others now but needless to say THIS is my favorite guitar! Only bad thing I can say is that it prevents you from picking up your other guitars - its that cool & fun to play!
Have you tried using RMC synth bridge pickups? John McLaughlin touts them as does Al Dimeola and many others. Acoustic and Electric. Here's what John McLaughlin says: "Dear Richard, ..... You have without doubt the most superior system in the world" - When I ordered a custom guitar from a pal name of Neil Smith aka Vegas Guitars. It had to have those synth bridge pickups. They make up the bridge and each string has it's own midi pickup. The pickups run out through it's own synth jack after passing through through some blend switches (blend/volume and tone) and a forward and reverse selector switch so you can change the synth sounds on the guitar on the fly. This guitar reminded me of mine, but I think the fact the pickups run to a synth (Roland, etc), that makes maybe 10,000 sounds possible using the axe as the midi generator. I wish I was nearer, I'd drop it by... Mine has an ebony fretboard!
Tim, I'm in awe of you. A "mature" person who not only plays Excellent but you always look so happy doing these videos - I will be turning 65 in a couple months and You Sir give me hope that I will get to improve my playing to the next level before it's my turn to take a "Dirt Nap". THANKS for your videos. You give all us Old Dudes hope.
It shouldn’t surprise me at this point, but every time there is an exceptional track from an artist that really jumps out as one of my favorites on a album. The guy has been building a mosaic of songs in the soundtrack of our lives, and he’s apparently set up camp in my brain because once I realize…. “Of course that’s Tim Pierce. Who else could it be?” ☮️❤️🎶
Such a unique sounding strat! Really going pretty 80s, especially from 2:38 to 3:05. Really wonderful sound that's just 'different' in a lot of ways from the classic strat tone.
I could listen to a whole album of you just playing ambient sounds with this guitar. Absolutely love your tone, touch, and the melodies that come out of you. edit: and now I want this guitar! Fender should produce it with your mods!
Tim has an album he doesn't talk about too much. It is SUPER FANTASTIC! Guitarland will change the way you listen to guitar music. Not sure why Tim not only totally ignores it but refuses to do another. I'm actually mad....Tim is holding out on us.
Riffing over top of "Crazy"....one of my favorite pop songs ever. Then find out you played on "Waiting for you" ...another top fave! You are always a joy to watch.
I've always thought it, that a new guitar, or any new piece of musical gear, will really motivate one's ability and passion to play and get better. Always love the informative and great playing Tim!
O M G !!! Nearly in tears right now! Owned a few Strats over the years. This one... Tim... O M G... Ok. Now I'm crying! Perhaps, once my life is back together, i can work again...using this model Strat. You really blessed me today, giving me hope for better things in life. Thank you!
I'm not really a Radiohead fan but I love my EOB Strat. You're right, no other guitar in my collection does what it does. You freaked me out with the new neck, though. Great playing and tones.
I love how you are able to go from super ambient wet tones that border on synthesizer sounds and then all of a sudden with the flip of a switch bam! Super clean and dry and tight - really nice.
That is one of the best sounding strats I have heard in a very long time.... Just the standard "strat sound" is amazing... It sounds like what everyone is looking for when they are trying to get the perfect tone. Plus, I think the guitar looks amazing with the jack on the bottom of the body....
You are the best guitarist I've ever heard.... Swear to god... You rock , You Blues , you Jazz, You Funk, you do everything!!!! not many players out there can say that... Keep it up champ..
That Sustainer pup in the neck is awesome. That is a phenomenal instrument. Tone and depth of this guitar is off the charts. Without the proper equipment your leads can’t be copied.
Yeah, I would buy a whole album of this music. Incredible Tim!!! Recognized “Crazy” as you were playing over it. Fabulous part you played in “Waiting 4u”!!
I had a sweet green Fernandes guitar with a sustainer years ago. Was a lot of fun, but I grew tired of changing the battery all the time and sold it. Was fun while it lasted :)
That's a dream guitar right there. I love it! But no matter how great the guitar is, it's all in the fingers, and you're sounding better than ever, Tim.
Pick and squeeze your very own delicious glass of orange juice on your beautifully flowered stroll in paradise........that and playing perhaps the greatest inventive guitar........how much better can life get, Tim??!! I'm so envious!! Jim C.
Mr. Pierce, Love listening to you play. Very inspirational. Your channel and content is some of the best on TH-cam. I had no idea you played on Seals song. You made that song sound amazing, complimenting Seals voice. Great work and video.
Watching you play and listening to you talk always makes me happy! I will never be a great guitar player but I aspire to have a smile every day and you are a great source of inspiration for that goal.
Hey Tim..As regard to the Logo...the tower was the Marconi tower emblem and represents his cross Atlantic transmission...Early RCA commercials use to have it posted as well as Victrola...
This guitar is similar to my Jackson PC-1 which has the sustainer pickup and the 2 toggle switches. I didn't know the guitarist from Radiohead uses a similar system, very cool :)
You can get Sustainiac type sustain from a normal guitar, at fairly low volumes, using some OD/Distortion pedals and being close to the speaker. I saw Jack Pearson doing it with a Bullet Squier Strat so tried it myself. I tried a couple of Tube Screamers but an EH Crayon worked best. It sustained at lower volumes than either TS. The trick is to have sustain on 10 on the guitar, but play on 7. Just bring in the 10 for sustain then back off to 7 (or wherever the sustain cuts but the volume is still good) for normal playing. I got sustain on all notes, just like a Sustainiac, and I have played Sustainiacs. Some were good and well set up, some weren't and the sustain came in late and went too loud to be useful. I don't know if it would work as well with all guitars but the Bullet Squier of the time JP was using them, and EH Crayon worked. If I ever get an EH Crayon I'll try with some of my guitars.
Just have to say your playing is superb and your tone, no matter which instrument you play, is superb. I have learned so much from your videos. Love the sustain!!!
Dude, Love's Divine was my first exposure to Seal. It was a hit in France where I grew up and it had a big impact on me. I still remember him performing it live on some tv show and just being sucked in. So cool to know now that you played on it.
I love my EOB Strat and I love the 10/56 carve on the neck. But man! I want rosewood with block inlays on it. That is beautiful. I totally agree on it changing how you play. I don't play it often because I get totally lost in time and lose a day just experimenting; getting great tones and lines it leads me to..
I have a Fernandes Revolver Pro . It’s a blast. What I like about your Sustainiac system is the bridge & middle pickups still work when the battery dies. Not so on the Fernandes.
I am suprised again and again about your guitars on so many recordings that I really love. Thank you so much. I love exactly what you played on waiting for you for years now. I mostly enjoy these kind of guitars. They support the song and the groove. The Edge has the Ed O'Brien Strat in his touring equipment for with or without you. Maybe one of the best sustainer guitars. I remember Daniel Lanois talking in a video about the first sustainer guitars he brought to the recording sessions with U2.
I forgot what an amazing voice Seal has! I have one of these EOB Strats too, I have to admit I love the chunky maple neck on mine, but that R&D stamp is very cool!
Love this .It's like you have taken your love for Level 42 with you to the next level.I think Jeff Beck would also like to take one of these for a spin.He plays in a really vocal style like you.Always been a fan of the Block inlays also.

that Seal song is killer with some extra guitar embellishments - I'm sure Ed got his ideas from The Edge who's been using a sustainer guitar since the 80s.

Tim I purchased this guitar because of your video. Of course I didn't get it with the custom neck you ordered but the factory neck is excellent. I'm really enjoying the versatility with and without the sustainer.
Hands down one of Fender’s best ‘mid level’ models! Had one and I love the neck and ‘regular’ sounds maybe even more than the Sustainiac - well done Ed!
You have a diamond in that guitar Tim. I'm so interested in how you think when you play. I love love love listening to what you play and what you share. I always love the walks around the hood too. Enjoying the crap out of this video :)
I have that guitar and love it. Do not forget to unplug it, as a dead battery kills the tone with or without the sustainer being on. Jealous of that neck ! Sick playing as always, you make any and all gear sound good. Cheers.
I put a sustainer in a ‘92 dinky back in 2007 because I couldn’t afford a Jackson PC-1 at the time. Fantastic instrument. Phil goes a bit nuts with it live but it sure is fun.
Wow, I have been a fan of the Sustainiac since '87 when Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead was using one. But, this strat has it all built in. Love the features. The toggles are perfect. The blend knob is dreamy. I will most likely get one of these when I can. It does a lot of things I wish a strat would do, already built in. Except the neck thing, which I can deal with. Tim, you should be an honorary part of the Wrecking Crew. You and Michael Landau. Can't believe how many credits you both have!
I had one of those and it was pretty cool. But I wasn’t really using the sustainor so I sold it. The maple neck it comes with is super chunky-which I really like-but many folks may not, so buyer beware!
I’m truly upset there isn’t a left handed model. That price is incredible. I have a standard Olympic white and an autumn metallic mod shop hardtail i love. This would definitely be one I’d buy right now. IF it were available in a lefty….
That is awesome. I think I’m going to have one custom fit into my Ibanez. To give it that next level of sustain and playability like that guitar. At first, I thought you had a midi pick up. That’s truly amazing. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Tim! *Incredible* playing, as ever 🙌🏻
We all think you’re amazing Chris. I always look forward to Friday fretwork’s. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦 !
Chris, thanks for the kind words..... Also for your comment on the BD video....
Hopefully we can see Chris Buck with this guitar as well soon.

Mimi, Thanks so much!
Noodling over Crazy is one of my favorite past times. You sound a lot better than I do, of course.
At first I thought a Fender V-Strat . . . BOSS digital effects.
So great to see Tim Pierce's 'guitar face' lighting up with the music.

That is awesome. I think I’m going to have one custom fit into my Ibanez. To give it that next level of sustain and playability like that guitar. At first, I thought you had a midi pick up. That’s truly amazing. Thank you.
