- Independence Day (1996) Movie Reaction, Review, and Commentary for JL. Many moments loving literally all things Jeff Goldblum and a few moments if real alien life would just lock their windows when going by Earth were had.

“Do you really think they pay $40,000 for a toilet seat and $50,000 for a hammer?”
This might be a movie, but that man was speaking facts.
for realz, back in the day that line opened allot of peoples eyes haha now its a trope in movies and what not. and he aint wrong at all, either they are stealing it or if the guberment doesnt know how much a hammer costs we are in some real trouble

@@shinrapresident7010This. They stretch their budget pretty well, all things considered.
They did something like this in the comedy movie, ‘Spies like Us’, the intelligence agents ask the rogue general how the hell he paid for a secret underground command center and he bluntly replied about how the defense department is always overfunding his projects with the lie that the money is for more stealth bombers.
@hisdudeness8328 I haven't seen that movie in so long. Definitely putting it on my movie watch list. Thank you for reminding me about it

55:17 I love many things about this movie, but Jeff Goldblum re-using "Must go faster" from Jurassic Park will never not make me cackle with glee.🤣
Omigosh I’m an IDIOT! I never noticed that!!!!!
Yes, way to go! Nice you always give a shout out to Blank! Have a wonderful birthday, Blankie!!!

I consider Bill Pullman's speech in this movie to be one of the best speeches in the history of cinema. It never fails to give me goosebumps. So good!
Definitely made me want to sign up to fight aliens.
So much respect for you giving acknowledgement to your editor. Thumbs up for you, and happy birthday to "blank". 👍🎂
Unlike Vkunia, which terrorized and harrassed and lied about her editor to avoid paying.
What I love about this channel is that it can get me excited for a movie I haven't cared about for over 20 years.
@@santiago451 man I feel bad for you, haven’t rewatched this movie in 20 years???
"DAMN did she just bang the door with his head!?" Omg i laughed so hard lol😅
“His eyes didn’t look like he was yelling like that”. Yooo i literally was thinking the same thing when I saw it.
It was on fire in the beginning because it's entering the atmosphere (The high speed clashing with the oxygen molecules make it go red hot and turn it into a fireball… That’s why meteors and stuff when they enter the atmosphere there on fire… Even spaceships when they return they get really really hot and can actually burn)
Exactly!
"They might be throwing up gang signs" 💀🤣💀🤣💀🤣💀
"Now that's what I call a close encounter!"
Dude pulling out ALL the stops with these movies, y'all ❤❤❤ oooh what a treat! I will be ready!
“And what the hell is that smell?!” was improvised and a real question. The scene was filmed on the salt flat that actually do stink! No one told Will Smith about it before filming. 😂😂
Ever noticed whenever a movie character turns a TV on, its already on the channel for whatever they want seen? No fumbling with a remote, it was never left on The Playboy Channel by a bored guard.
"You think they have any idea what's about to happen to them?"
"Not a chance in hell. Goodnight!"
"PEACE!" ✌️
Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Sharon Tay.
What Script Fact: Dean Devlin said that most of the dialogue in the scenes Jeff Goldblum shared with Judd Hirsch and Will Smith (all three comedians) was improvised.
Practical Over CGI Fact: The destruction of The White House had to happen in one take. The crew built a giant miniature and placed minor explosives around it. Later the special effects team added fire and debris.
Epic Cameo Fact: The man in the Los Angeles office building that is destroyed in the initial attack is played by Volker Engel, the movie's visual effects supervisor. The building also contains his initials on the exterior.
Airplane Enthusiast Fact: The main American military aircraft seen throughout the film, are the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet. After the climatic battle, one of the F/A-18s that returns to the base can be seen with the "VM" tail code. This is the designation for Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314 (VMFA-314) Black Knights, the same squadron that Will Smith flies with in the film and that gets massacred by the city destroyer that took out Los Angeles.
Location Location Fact: The scene in which Will Smith drags the unconscious alien across the desert was filmed on the salt flats near Great Salt Lake in Utah. Smith's "And what the hell is that SMELL?" line was unscripted. Great Salt Lake is home to tiny crustaceans called brine shrimp. When they die, the bodies sink to the bottom of the lake (which isn't very deep) and decompose. When the wind kicks up just right, the bottom mud is disturbed and the smell of millions of decaying brine shrimp can be very, very bad. Apparently, nobody warned Will.
Re. The man in the LA office building...
I remember a friend and I saw this movie together and were coming up with ideas as to Why that guy was there when there were Aliens Visiting Earth with one of the ships outside the window.
A couple ideas:
- He didn't work there. He was there to steal something (plans, paperwork, etc)
- The guy didn't believe it was real. He was a conspiracy theoriest and believed the CIA was involved
- He Really needed that raise and this was his chance to edge out the competition. "John may have been here longer, but I worked through the alien apocalypse."
Haha
Jeff is not a comedian
He’s an actor 😂
@@AcornSmokes420 All three are actors. All three have comedic abilities as well as dramatic capacities in their works.
Thats what I believe the op is talking about. Of course, I can be wrong
LA_HA ...Indeed. Thank you for clarifying that up for me, you beat me to the punch.
Go with God and Be Safe from Evil. 😎 👍
Dude, when i saw in cinema, the amount of popcorn, sodas, and screams that flew upwards on that autopsy scene...
😂😅
I feel sorry for whoever had to clean up afterwards when ID4 was playing in theaters.
"Everyone in the worlds trying to get outta washington, were the only schmucks tryin to get in"
Goldblum's 'Pops' is played by the legendary actor, Judd Hirsch, the main character, Alex Reiger, from the amazing sitcom, Taxi, my personal favorite show. Great reaction! Impressed you knew Alex Tabor from Saved by the Bell: The College Years.
He was an acclaimed Broadway actor too.
“This glass bulletproof?” “No sir” 💥💥🔫🔫
Btw Dr. Okin the guy with long hair who meets the president and shakes his hand is freaking Data from Star Trek. Yes crazy. I only learned this recently, I had no idea lol.
I always thought he looked familiar, but was always too lazy to look up the actor...
The more you know
I actually got to meet Brent Spiner, and he was super cool. He told me a couple of facts about the movie.
WTF? Would have never known
Happy BDay Blank!!!🎉 People who give credit where credit is due are extremely rare, keep appreciating and motivating each other as brothers in the human race!
I love this movie. Whether it's this movie or Jurassic Park, Jeff Goldblum is always the smartest one who senses the danger before everyone else.
He is so dreamy and talented. I've seen everything he's in (not enough imo) even The Fly , more than once. Such a gross film but he's so brilliant.
Recently found out the, "What the hell is that smell?!" was Will legit asking, because there's a very smelly lake in Utah near where they filmed and nobody warned him about it.
The guy with the Burger King crown is the same guy from Men In Black that was “definitely an alien,” before the reveal that it was actually Frank the Pug
"Welcome to Earth! Now that's what I call a close encounter." XD
Yes, there was a time when everyone cheered because Will Smith punched someone in the face. 😁
Man, he smacked that alien like it's name was Chris Rock.

How refreshing to see a Hollywood President - an honest, moral person who loves his wife and family and can put two coherent sentences together.
He should watch "Dave" next.
That's a Great movie about the Presidency and the kind of President We Need.
Not Left. Not Right.
Just a great man
Other than the speech, Harrison Ford in Air Force One has Bill Pullman beat as best president
@@TomBombadil89 I like Jaime Foxx as President in White House Down, too.

Until you realize he's a Hollywood icon, so there's a 1 in 4 chance he visited Epstein Island at least once. 🤣 JK, Bill Pullman is the goat.

@user-kj5iu8bs1p Second greatest Movie Speech of All Time!*
(*after Van Damme's "But we can all go home" speech in Street Fighter)
The plot hole during the final battle, where the computers are showing that no-one has any missiles left yet Uncle Eddie has one missile, is because of the original ending which was put together with unfinished effects for test audiences and then changed. In the original ending, Uncle Eddie volunteers to fly one of the jets but is *turned down*. When he turns up to save the day, he is flying his crop duster plane with a missile physically bolted to the side. However, in that version of the ending he knows it's a suicide mission going in, because he doesn't have any release mechanism for the missile. That's also why his missile doesn't show up on the computers. Test audiences found the crop duster flying around in that dogfight too corny/unbelievable and the ending was changed. The shots of Uncle Eddie in the fighter cockpit were reshoots done after the cockpit mockup had been dismantled so they had to throw something together on the fly, which is why the cockpit he's sitting in looks a bit cheaper than the others.
I wouldn't call it a hole, maybe a dent. Because he "miss fired" it in the beginning causing the jam so the tracking system thought it was already fired. Plausable. 😅
This film is the definition of a Box Office smash! Everyone went to see it and was laughing and cheering together! I even saw it 3 times in theater.
There are 5 Defcons.
The ships are flaming/on fire because of friction of the air due to their speed creating huge amounts of heat interacting with humidity in the air. This friction heat used to cause the Concorde to stretch by six inches during supersonic flight. It contracted to normal length as it slowed down to land
@45:16 Julius telling David that he’s very proud of him never fails to choke me up and bring a tear to my eye.
A fantastic reaction youve just shared with us, Eom. Also, another sci-fi film made by Roland Emmerich that i highly recommend you is "Stargate". Have a great 4th of July and Happy Independence Day.
I cant believe you don't recognize Bill Pullman aka the president 😯
He was Lone Star in Spaceballs, he was in lake placid also, plus a bunch of other movies
Love bill Pullman and Paxton (rest in peace extreme)

Happy Birthday, Blank! Thanks for making this all happen!
I can't remember if there was a 3rd movie from the 90's where Jeff Goldblum says "must go faster..." lol
This movie is a masterpiece, the soundtrack, the dialogue, the design of the aliens and their tech. That death beam they have is so devastating.
Independence Day’ opened in theaters 28 years ago yesterday, July 2, 1996
Jeff G. is 6'4" tall while Will S. is only (😂) 6'2"
The little details are what i like about this movie. The dog out jumping the explosion. Will Smith punching the alien. The dad no one respects is the one who blows up the aliens. The foreign forces who say it's about time the Americans came up with a plan. The Area 51 guy saying we don't get out much. Harvey Fierstein's character stuck in traffic and seeing the end coming. This movie is pure entertainment.
Happy birthday, Blank! You do an amazing job with the channel, thank you!🎉
That intro was amazing. Often times people don't say what is in their hearts until it's too late. Warms MY heart to see some real love between these two gentlemen in the here and now. Keep up the AMAZING work Blank. I love you guys and this channel, all the best to you both and Happy Birthday Blank!!!!!! Lets Get It!
Didn't mention how smart and brave Vivica Fox's character was. She not only saved her child and boomer. How smart she was to go to the side door, kicking open a locked metal door. But she also rescued people along the way, including the President's wife. She got them to the base, got supplies for everyone and even taking care of the President's wife. That's the only reason why he way able to see her before she died. Her character was the epitome of a strong woman, a strong mother.
Nothing about the tunnel scene was smart. Their O2 would have been gone and they'd be cooked in the scene depicted, though survival in similar disasters isn't usually a question of personal decision making. However she was definitely depicted as intelligent in the movie especially her initial decision to see the aliens as hostile.
BLM here you are so so rt i was sitting here thinking the same darn thing these are just a bunch of racists.🤣🤣🤣
She’s so awesome!
Plus a rocking bod.
Happy Birthday Blank! We appreciate you.
That really was a hell of a speech,I went and saw this twice and both times the audience erupted. It’s even more impactful now with the world so divided. I always show my age when I say shit like that forgetting how old certain movies are😂
Happy birthday blank 🎉🎉🎉🎉 we appreciate everything you do bro and we love you
I will not go quietly into the night without wishing Blank a very Happy Birthday on this Independence Day!
if you're paying attention, the stripper's kid has a King Ghidorah toy when they're with the First Lady after they find her.
Not just any King Ghidorah but one from Trendmasters, the company that made the Independence Day toys. It's a double-dipped ad placement. :D
Apart from Data, I can identify three actors that appeared in the Star Trek universe.

“Independence Day”. Jeff Goldblum- faster! Must go faster!
“Jurassic Park”. Jeff Goldblum- faster! Must go faster!
41:11 this part always makes me laugh - the bit you cut out where the guy goes "well about bloody time" - apparently everyone else in the world has just been sitting around with their thumb up their asses waiting for America to save the world. 😂😂
Even Director Roland Emmerich admitted that he made this movie to be U.S.-centric. But I’ve always interpreted that line as “it’s about bloody time that someone came up with a plan”. But maybe that’s just me. 😁
Love the to death. Underrated as hell. Stellar cast, great score, awesome special effects and one of the best speeches given by Bill Pullman.
Happy birthday Blank! Thank you for all your hardwork on all the EOM channels!! Happy 4th boys!!!

"I mean.. why are we testing this over Houston? Ain't there like a country somewhere we can try this over?"
That comment almost made me spit out my drink. That's one of the most American comments ever and I'm here for it. He's right.
There's a deleted scene that makes this make a lot more sense. They talked about how all our nodern technology, including computers, came from the crashed spaceship. That's why a 1990's laptop can interface with an alien mothership.
Among my favorite fun films. Happy Birthday, Blank.
The professor at Area 51 is Brent Spiner aka Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Nice!
Was stationed at 29 Palms when this came out. Saw it there at the base theater for free. The whole theater went wild during the movie.
Also when Jeff Goldblum was hot and still a bit sane. And Haaary Connick Jr. 😜
Fun fact for us not so fun fact for will smith and the crew on set. The scene in which Will Smith drags the unconscious alien across the desert was filmed on the salt flats near Great Salt Lake in Utah. Smith's line, "And what the hell is that *smell*?" was unscripted. Great Salt Lake is home to tiny crustaceans called brine shrimp. Nobody warned him of the horrible smell that sometimes comes of the Great Salt Lake due to billions of dead brine shrimp each year.
J, Judd Hirsch played Jeff Goldblum's dad in Independence Day. Judd Hirsch, Tony Danza, Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd starred in the late 70's early 80's TV show TAXI. J and Blank, if you never watched it,you should check it out if you got time. It's hilarious.
That would really bring back memories from childhood.. and you even had Andy Kaufman as I think a mechanic?
Also nominated for an Academy Award...... Ordinary People
Loved your reaction! This is honestly my favorite movie of all time. I literally could watch this on repeat and never grow bored of it.
