@1131995 I've said this a zillion times now. The car I was driving in the review was the blue car from the intro. The exterior shots are a Red GT C/S car. Logistics prevented us from shooting only one car.
@netrovia no, the car in the outside shots was a red 2011 GT with the california special package. We didn't have the opportunity to shoot just a single car, so we had to make it work.
@Linecrasher obviously they aren't the same car. The car we shot for the exteriors was also red, and the car I drove in the review was the blue one from the intro.
@CicoPrisoje No, the exterior shots are of the GT California Special package. Notice the billet grille, raised wing, lack of grille-fog lights, and black scallop on the side that says GT/CS. Obviously we shot two cars, for this video, but the exteriors are a GT not a V6.
@usageee I said the "as tested price" was $42k. As you can imagine, press loan vehicles have every conceivable option so we can play with the gadgets. The base price is $31,000, and you can get one with some nice options for $35k.
@theknights9 you don't get it. Our cameraman shot video not only for us but for all other journalists to use as well. This video was shot 100% by The Smoking Tire/Garage419 camera crew, and other people are using OUR footage, not the other way around. As for the different cars, yes, I reviewed a blue one and the exteriors are of a red one. That's just the way it goes, because logistics wouldn't allow us to use just one car for the shoot. Does it affect the review? not at all....
@emubomber there are. I was driving the blue, glass roof GT from the intro, and the exterior shots were of a hardtop GT/CS. Logistical reasons prevented us from shooting just one car.
@mohawk365 The exterior shots are of a Red GT with the California Special Package. Note the billet grill, raised wing, and black stripe. The car I was driving was the Blue GT from the intro. Logistics prevented us from filming just one car on this trip.
@TexasNova the "solid" feeling of Mustangs starting with the Fox body through today is what has kept the Mustang ahead of the Camaro in my book all these years. Camaros may have historically been faster in the 80's and 90's, but every one I drove squeaked, rattled, and shook over every bump, a problem Mustangs haven't had.
@blurglide The term is crank horsepower not Front Wheel Horsepower (unless you're talking about a front-drive car. Edmunds measured 395 Wheel Horsepower, which is somthing like 435 at the crank.
@Burnabus you saw everyting you needed to see of it in the first 30 seconds of the video. that clip of the mustang pulling is both cars at full throttle, and the mustang won by 6/10ths and 9mph in the eighth mile. It was a slaughter.
@Ty280z Engines are heavy. A 4 seater Mazda with a 4-cylinder engine can easily weigh less than a 2-seat car with a V8. The Z has a 3.7L V6 in it, which weighs about twice as much as the 1.3L Rotary engine in the RX-8
Good Review Matt. Even if it was pretty brief. But i could liteally sit there and hear about every piece of this car for hundreds of hours. Cant wait to pull the cash together and put one in the driveway.
@ilovecars8888 Or, we could have been required to shoot two different cars for time constraints. In fact, Tom and JF taped all the exterior shots for ALL journalists, so they are using our shots, not the other way around. We work extremely hard to get you guys good videos every week, and with only 3 people and no money we do a damn good job. If you're so much better at making videos, I suggest you try it yourself before criticizing a fact that has nothing to do with the actual review.
@s1owsrt Look at the side mirror when he is driving (interior camera view): it's blue. He's driving the blue 5.0 that is shown in the beginning of the video. They're cutting off to a red CA Special while he is driving for some reason.
@blade3870 Congrats. I had a '90 GT and the best 'mod' I did was swapping its 308 gears for 373s. It became a whole different 'Animal' and I didn't really lose any MPG because most of my driving was at or below 55MPH and 5th was unusable under 60MPH,also because I could shift sooner and there was less 'hunting' between gears around town. That hunting was my only compaint about the car.
@usageee I think the base configuration is $10K less. That puts it on the same price level as the EvoX, STI, used C5 Z06 with low miles, 335i, etc. All extremely worthy competitors. Personally, I think the Evo gets the nod for that price.
hey Matt ,i got question since you were able to feel this baby .. if you are to compare the handling on the 5.0 with any other car , what car will that be?...
I like how the review footage shows you in the BLUE Mustang with the glass roof, while the outside driving footage shows a RED Mustang without the glass roof. But really, good review. All I needed to know is that the engine is as beastly as the hype claims. Royal purple? Negative, that engine runs on baby oil. From freshly squeezed babies. That's how much of a beast it is.
@RedDelSol They did. Its the 3.7. And I certainly wouldn't call a 400 horse V8 heavy on gas with 26 MPG. . . The 650 gets 23, the CLK550 gets 21, so what are you talking about?
@bamaedgecore Have you seen the video from Motortrend with the Mustang and M3 comparison? If you have, that really does show that the Mustang is easily a capable car, especially against and M3 (an example car you used), along with the LRA and lack of gadgetry still did a fine job.
@blade3870 I have a 89, youre doing good because the most restrictive part of the 5.0 is the heads, so next you should look into the low and high intakes, headers and exhaust 4:10 rear end gears or 3:73( I would go 4:10 keke :)
ok whats the deal with the full sunroof while matt is driving, and then the exterior shots have the normal roof?? different cars or some new fangled body color glass??
@ST1GGLES I was trying to say: Who will buy this? Considering that it has 5.0 it doesn't make 100hp to 1L of displacement. Modern cars like Infinity, benz, Lexus, BMW make over 100hp per 1L. The 5.0 is not as fast as some other cars out there with much smaller engines. And to the general person on a street this is just another stang. Most of them wouldn't even recognize that you've spend extra 20k to have that 5.0 in it.
@TheSmokingTire - Ahh. I see you're using it as "FlyWheel Horsepower". My mistake- never saw that used as an abbreviation before. Usually I see RWHP/FWHP or just WHP for power at the wheels, and Crank HP or BHP (Bench Horsepower) for power at the crank.
@JUSTACHIPN You left the same misspelled comment on my channel. Unlike TV you can click through commercials if you don't like them. Get over it. If we don't run commercials, we don't get paid, and you don't get videos. You can't have it both ways, so if you dont like them, either click through, or watch someone else's videos.
@cirrustc he is driving the blue one in the beginning of the video. Why is he showing a red one w/o sunroof? I dunno but he must have a valid reason :)
@barnetr2 They used video from another test for a red GT/CS, but matt farrah is actually driving the grabber blue glass roofed car that you see in the first scene. I think they were lazy about taping road shots for their own test drive, and shouldn't have used someone else's.
I'm pretty sure this one has the best power to weight ratio of any stock GT mustang ever too. But still the out going 4.6 wasn't to bad at 300hp but the mustang got so heavy in 05 the car you had Matt was obviously much faster because of the weight unless you weren't getting traction. Which brings me to another gripe about alot of the new cars besides being so big and tall they are also much heavier which I guess adds stability, safty and chassis stiffness maybe.
@cirrustc, Probably a production issue. Give 'em a break, for now they're a start up show and don't have the resources of the bigger players but the quality of the review is there in spades.
@TheSmokingTire ah yes, sorry, I am in the UK and was thinking of their prices here, the Mustang obviously is more similarly priced to the RS5/S5 as it is a custom import car. Never mind. Thanks for the great review though! :)
This might be the best stock Mustang ever. I mean you drive it off the lot and you already have 412 horsepower right there. Ford did everything right with this car. Not to mention the 6-speed manual, finally. Definitely worth your money.
It has everything, even (3:48) a "sink." Oh, good, I need a bar sink in my car. But what's way more interesting is the Lockheed Constellation in the intro.
should i get this or a lotus elise both 28$K a guy is offering me both are used the lotus has more miles (41k) idk the mustangs miles but i think the lotus is waaaay sexier but i dont know the reliability of them and the maintenance cost reply plz
@cirrustc Don't listen to them. You don't see the glass roof on the outside of the red one b/c it doesn't have it. He's driving the blue one from the beginning of the vid and not the red one they show from the outside while driving.
@ST1GGLES i saw an episode of american muscle car or whatever its called on vh1 where they took the new 5.0 and put it on an engine dyno and it actually made about 475 HP with the rev limiter coming in at about 7800 RPM.. ford really underrated the engine, just like gm did when the ls1 came out on firebirds and camaros back in 98
I would love to stick the new 5.0 in a 2009 Mustang (45th anniversary). Now that will be a classic in the future with the performance. Just got a GT 2012 with brembo pkg, can't stop driving it!! Dreams comes true
Still have it? :)
@netrovia no, the car in the outside shots was a red 2011 GT with the california special package. We didn't have the opportunity to shoot just a single car, so we had to make it work.

@Richard88183 the exterior shots were of the "california special" car with the billet grille, black scallop, C/S badging, and raised wing.
@emubomber there are. I was driving the blue, glass roof GT from the intro, and the exterior shots were of a hardtop GT/CS. Logistical reasons prevented us from shooting just one car.
@pershing22 the car I was driving was the Blue GT from the intro. The exterior B-Roll is of a CS car.
@barnetr2 obviously we shot two different cars. The car I was driving was the blue car from the intro shots.
@mohawk365 The exterior shots are of a Red GT with the California Special Package. Note the billet grill, raised wing, and black stripe. The car I was driving was the Blue GT from the intro. Logistics prevented us from filming just one car on this trip.

@27dcx it doesn't need it. the Live Axle on the mustang, in practice, functions better than the IRS in either the Camaro or Challenger.
@nicnlac yes, all mustangs in 2011, V6 included, will have LSD.
So, matt's driving a car with the glass roof and the red car shown in the entire video is a metal roof. How does that work?
@RedDelSol Um, the fuel economy of both the V6 and V8 versions of the Mustang are class-leading.
@josecrosscountry as a relative comparison to other cars in its class, it is.
@charliestyr the RS5 is going to be an $85,000 car IF it goes on sale in the US. The Mustang does not have to compete with that.
@yellowbusguy compared to other cars in its class, yes. Compared to a Lotus Elise, No.
Good Review Matt. Even if it was pretty brief. But i could liteally sit there and hear about every piece of this car for hundreds of hours. Cant wait to pull the cash together and put one in the driveway.
@QaisRAK the seating position in the 99-04 Mustangs was terrible. It's much better in the newest generation Mustang.
Matt, you are... the man! Fantastic review on the 2011 Mustang GT
@mandobarrera yes.
Love the car reviews done by Matt Farrah!
Thanks for posting!
@ilovecars8888 Or, we could have been required to shoot two different cars for time constraints. that red paint looks incredible
@blade3870 Congrats. I had a '90 GT and the best 'mod' I did was swapping its 308 gears for 373s. @Andr3sb plus that car was the v6 from the last episode you can see the blue side mirror. guess the 5.0L sounds better than that in the vid
@mongrelchild have you not seen the curve for the 4v 5.0? its pulling hard from 2k to 7k. it will put a big smile on face
@usageee I think the base configuration is $10K less. That puts it on the same price level as the EvoX, STI, used C5 Z06 with low miles, 335i, etc. All extremely worthy competitors.
Personally, I think the Evo gets the nod for that price.
nice video.. you really get a feel for the sound.. but we kept seeing the ford "handout video" of a red car when dude drove a blue car.. I'm confused
@cirrustc My guess is that its the glass roof option, and that its something similar to the mirror/glass wall the police use or whatever.
@cirrustc It isn't a sunroof. It's a new option for 2011 for a glass roof. :)
@Andr3sb
Notice at 0:23 there is another blue GT with a regular roof. Magic indeed.
@fishsticks979 if it is a dark blue that is called kona blue metallic and the light blue is grabber blue
hey Matt ,i got question since you were able to feel this baby .. if you are to compare the handling on the 5.0 with any other car , what car will that be?...

@dave97202 sounds nice. You literally turned a 4.6 into a Shelby GT500 engine, good work. Send pics to matt at the smokingtire
@6StringedxBrewtality your right cause the sun roof is gone in the exterior shots haha
@bamaedgecore Have you seen the video from Motortrend with the Mustang and M3 comparison? If you have, that really does show that the Mustang is easily a capable car, especially against and M3 (an example car you used), along with the LRA and lack of gadgetry still did a fine job.

ok whats the deal with the full sunroof while matt is driving, and then the exterior shots have the normal roof?? different cars or some new fangled body color glass??
@TheSmokingTire and now that I notice, your own channel is full of copyrighted TV footage. Banned.
@Caseybat94 CLK Black Series.
@yeedoh ford likes to rate at the rear wheel it seems. they did the same thing with the 03-04 cobras
@Andr3sb look at the video, theres two of them in the beginning. One with the glass and one without.
I'm a Chevy guy at heart, but i like what they did with the new mustang. nothing I can complain about if i was in that market
and just like that, mustang gets back on top again...without ever stopping their production line unlike camaro and most of its current competition.
@ST1GGLES I was trying to say: Who will buy this? Considering that it has 5.0 it doesn't make 100hp to 1L of displacement. Modern cars like Infinity, benz, Lexus, BMW make over 100hp per 1L. I still think it should have IRS. It just seems like a better overall platform to me. Make the live axle an option for the drag racers.
u really gotta do a video on the new 2011 STI by subaru. I have a feeling that this new car is going to be the car 2 buy.
@dfriesen85 Hard to tell? More like it's not there. He's driving the blue one from the beginning of the vid, not the red one they show driving.
I got a question is seeing the mustang everywhere a good or bad thing?
were at in malibu is this place!?!?!
why does the outside view of the car have no sunroof but from the inside there is clearly a large sunroof???
@DopePhotography
Actually the L99 is at 400..
@cirrustc he is driving the blue one in the beginning of the video. Why is he showing a red one w/o sunroof? I dunno but he must have a valid reason :)
the new 5.0 all alluminum block wont sound like the the old 5.0 iron block. would be nice though :/
@ray921001 they are making a gt350 with a supercharged 5.0. its magical
How come the one he's driving has a glass roof but in the outside shot doesn't?
@cds417 You know, I was gonna say that too. But, u can tell that he's driving a blue mustang, not the red one they show from the outside.
What would you recommend a mustang or challenger???
@barnetr2 They used video from another test for a red GT/CS, but matt farrah is actually driving the grabber blue glass roofed car that you see in the first scene. I think they were lazy about taping road shots for their own test drive, and shouldn't have used someone else's.
40 guys on here definitely wear bow ties.
Great Video. The 5.0 and V6 Rock
@cirrustc Because he's Test Driving the Grabber Blue Mustang with a glass roof,and the red one is just for photos...
How is it that half of this video clip is dedicated to sponsors?
The car at 1:05, isn't that a #C6 #Corvette Matt's in ?
That's his modified c5
Cool Miguel Ortiz. You have one too?
No haha I'm 13 closest think I have to that is a hotwheel
Hehehe Miguel Ortiz. Don't worry, very soon
One would think for 42k they could do away with the live read axle no?
I'm pretty sure this one has the best power to weight ratio of any stock GT mustang ever too.
But still the out going 4.6 wasn't to bad at 300hp but the mustang got so heavy in 05 the car you had Matt was obviously much faster because of the weight unless you weren't getting traction. @Andr3sb Good point. I wonder whats going on???
Fudge, the facelift should of included changing those interior door handles. I was glad to see those fugly things go on the other US Fords.
This might be the best stock Mustang ever. I mean you drive it off the lot and you already have 412 horsepower right there. Ford did everything right with this car. Not to mention the 6-speed manual, finally. Definitely worth your money.
@Andr3sb
Someone had his breakfast this morning! Good catch.
@thepill1978 Very true, I just ordered mine this morning. Grabber blue, 400A, manual trans. I can't wait!
Great review :-) That is one sick ass 302 (thanx for the vid.)
@krislyttle drive it then judge it... or just cut back options and do a IRS swap...
It has everything, even (3:48) a "sink." Oh, good, I need a bar sink in my car. But what's way more interesting is the Lockheed Constellation in the intro.
should i get this or a lotus elise both 28$K a guy is offering me both are used the lotus has more miles (41k) idk the mustangs miles but i think the lotus is waaaay sexier but i dont know the reliability of them and the maintenance cost

@leaf16nut What Will Ford Install???
@KFCOrBust
How exactly is 3,000 heavy? You must be used to those little Hondas.
@ST1GGLES i saw an episode of american muscle car or whatever its called on vh1 where they took the new 5.0 and put it on an engine dyno and it actually made about 475 HP with the rev limiter coming in at about 7800 RPM.. ford really underrated the engine, just like gm did when the ls1 came out on firebirds and camaros back in 98
@aleksankazakov the gt500 is 5.4
@KFCOrBust
I was thinking the same thing when he mentioned it's weight. I think 3600lbs is overweight.
@Andr3sb yea man, i was like what the fux up with that? makes me wonder if the interior shots are of a 2011 at all
he is sitting in a car with a sunroof but the car looks like it don't have one from outside?
I would love to stick the new 5.0 in a 2009 Mustang (45th anniversary). Now that will be a classic in the future with the performance. Ford did figure out one thing for sure Matt, and that is really degrading the S-197's classy look. It looks like a Mazda, Civic, and FTO all in one and tried to mix in the S-197. For all the 2010-2011 owners, paint the plastic at least, it will visually make it look much better, not like an Avalanche.
i agree those sound real nice
