- Jeeps are all about off road capability. Modified Jeeps are all the rage. Lifted suspensions, customized shocks and wheel combinations are all part of the deal. But how good are they?
Do you think a 100 year old Ford Model T can out 4 wheel the king of off roading? We'll let you be the judge of that.

@@NateNidifferthe model T was literally made for off road lol it was made at a time when roads were terrible if there even were roads! And they top out at around 35-40mph, which is about as fast as I’ve ever seen a jeep go anyway.
@@NateNidiffermodel a and t are great for offroad, and you can swap the engine with a lawn mower and go 60mph
The model T had full trailing arm suspension and everything! They were pretty bad ass. Because back then, everything was off road. Even the roads.
On road and off road was kind of the same thing

@masonadkins7972 Lol man have you ever been in an accident at 5mph? A 10 mph crash in a Model T is usually fatal. Even if you don't get impaled by the steering column, it will almost always break your sternum, puncture a lung, or end up with internal bleeding.

Model Ts are very good off-road and through mud. The skinny tires basically cut through the mud

@@NateNidiffer Not in mud, no. What they are great for, however, is snow. Model T's have excellent ground clearance and the thin wheels could cut through deep snow to the hard ground beneath. They were especially good when fitted with tire chains.

@@mrjed6912 They still cost money. And they are fairly expensive for something that only serves as little more than a collectors item, it's not like they're useful as a vehicle on modern roads.

I think the model t wins
Henry Ford’s philosophy was comparing an oak tree to a willow tree. When the wind really blows, which one is strongest. The flex built into the model t frame and suspension is what made it so tough. The roads, and trails those cars drove on would have torn them apart had they been designed any differently.

Impressive for a 100 year old masspruduced car the jeep is nothing compared to the modell T first the ford was assembled by humans not robots and second they didn't have the technology but they made it and I don't think the Jeep will run with no problem after a 100 years!

The Ford has tons frame flex also. It would be interesting to see if the doors worked while twisted up like that.

I'd put my TJ Rubicon up against that Model T. Yes, its highly modified, but it would still cost less than the Model T. Plus, if I hit a tree in my Jeep at 20 miles per hour, I'd probably say "Oof" then back up and keep going. In the Model T I'd be dead because they had this teeny tiny problem of IMPALING the driver on the steering column when they got into a front end crash.

Interesting how the Model T actually used chassis flex to it's advantage. I love seeing old engineering solutions like this.
Today people will climb into a Model T and their first thought is, 'This thing is flimsy.' The car was made to flex. It even had spring steel bumpers. When the T was designed there were almost zero paved roads in the US Murica. It a product of its time and place.
