It’s hard to compare Austin and Dallas, they’re not Apple to apples. Austin is a smaller college town with everyone wanting to be in the downtown huddle. Dallas is a metroplex that is 20x more massively spread out than Austin with more culture and diversity than Austin.
I’ve been living in the Dallas area for about 11 years now. I’m from the South East. Before I moved to Texas, I knew nothing about Austin much. My job requires me to go to Austin frequently. Here is my take. I like Austin for its more interesting terrain(for Texas) and the nightlife. I spent time on 6th street and the Domain, amongst other things. With all that said, I much prefer Dallas to live. People under 30 may prefer Austin and I understand why. Dallas seems more of a city for grown ups if that makes sense. Austin is only a 3 hr drive away, so it’s a great place to visit from time to time. Last thing I want to touch on is traffic. I use to live in Atlanta and one thing that Austin and Atlanta have in common is that the infrastructure of both are about 20 years behind the city growth. This is why both have terrible traffic! Dallas is larger than both and have better traffic. I know cities being larger isn’t always a positive, but Austin is more expensive and has worst traffic….I’m picking the much larger Dallas! If I’m moving to a smaller place, I need it to be cheaper with much less traffic!
Great video, but surprised there was very little mention about how much more diverse Dallas is by comparison, which is reflected in the food scene and nightlife. Dallas has a very strong music scene as well simply due to the fact that it has a much larger population which means bands can likely sell more tickets and gain more exposure.
I been living in Austin the majority of my life.. I’m currently living outside of Austin which is Round Rock Texas…Austin is starting to get pricey but the years I been here I learned to adapt.. but I’m planning on moving to the Dallas area in 2 years.. ready for a New scenery…if you planning on moving to Austin I suggest north Austin, Domain, Metric, Research & there’s a few others..I don’t recommend Rundberg, north Lamar, Riverside if you plan on living in Austin.. now don’t get me wrong they have been upgrading north Lamar on nice apartments but only you will know what’s right for you 🙂
My mom just sent me to this channel (thanks Mom)! Originally from Los Angeles and lived in The Big D Dallas the past 10 yrs and now about to move to the Austin area in a month or so which is super exciting. Dallas has been really great and has a ton to offer but it is BIG! Spread out like crazy. Drivers here are pretty crazy, cars and the insane Big Rigs! Our decision to move was for San Antonio or Austin and now looking forward to be calling Austin area our new home soon!
This comment section is very helpful. I'm from Dallas, leaving the military soon and want to get Master's so I thought I'd try a different city such as SA or Austin. Love the University in Austin but I'm not sure about living there.
i really wanted to move to austin and used to remember loving to visit for nightlife. but after visiting again and seeing how expensive it is to live in or near the city and how country it is outside of the city im feeling like dallas is the move. if i leave cali for cheaper prices why would i move to the cali of texas lol . austin is def a better party and vacation spot though
Lol “the Cali of Texas” so perfectly said! That is so damn true. It’s definitely all about the right fit for each person too. Dallas could be great for you! You know how to reach us if you need our help moving there 👍🏼
@@LivingInAustinGroup served in the airforce and San Antonio was a training base. Didn’t love the city while I was there so it’s always been narrowed to Dallas or atx and wanted atx til I took a dive into the prices. If I was ready for the suburbs I’d choose Austin all day but I want a condo in the city. And you said it yourself Dallas is the better move for that
Makes perfect sense! Sounds like Dallas is the right fit for you, and yes it’s the definitely the better option for condos. Excited for you man! I think you’ll really enjoy Texan life too especially since you’ve already had a some experience here
@@LivingInAustinGroup Back in the Day I would say AUSTIN definitely. Now I am kind of trying to chill just a little bit.. Tring to put on my big girl pants. Dallas FOR NOW. But in all of your videos you are smooth and easy with all the facts.
@@LivingInAustinGroup I visited Austin once myself a friend we showed up at about 3pm and left the AUSTIN CITY at about 4am in the morning. We had so much fun. That was 9 years ago. Thank you Frank I appreciate you as well.
For me, a HUGE thing is diversity! I feel like very few people touch on that topic, maybe because it doesn’t impact their daily lives as it would me and my family. But which city is more diverse when it comes to Black people? Dallas or Austin? I’ve been hearing Austin has almost no Black people, but are they welcoming and open minded? Usually a lack of diversity also brings a lack of thought diversity (groupthink). Any Black people in Austin- please respond and let me know. We are planning to move next summer and Austin and Dallas are both on the list (TOO HOT IN HOUSTON) 🥵
I can’t speak for the community, but to my knowledge both cities have respectable diversity and here’s why. Dallas’ population is MASSIVE. Even though it has a more “Texan” reputation, I’ve been told again and again of its diversity. In regards to Austin, it’s the #1 relocation hub in the country. A complete and total melting pot of people from all walks of life all around the world coming here all the time. That being said, because of the population difference, I’d guess Dallas has a larger community. I encourage responses to your question too! 🗣 P.S. Screw Houston’s humidity!
I visited and saw plenty of us "people of color".. even here on youtube there are couple with channels about Austin. (One is a Real Estate Agent.).I think there might be more in DFW just because of population size. So I would go with the City you like better. In Austin though, I didnt like the amount of homeless tents, but now that they changed the law...it might get better.
He lost me when he said Austin is more vibrant than Dallas. Dallas is far better than Austin and has much more to do. Better food, more culture, better city in general. Austin has nice scenery but not anything to die for.
after going to austin and dallas for years now i will say dallas is way more upscale for the rich person in you and austin is more laid back and nuturey but dallas has the best skyline in texas hands down and they have trails on bridges you can walk down to enjoy the skyline.. austin is naturey and dallas is very big city like nyc unlike atx
like i’ve driven to music festivals along the east coast and none of those cities compare to dallas except for nyc.. louisville compared to atx but not to dallas same w philly like it’s austin sized but it’s not dallas sized.. i would say dallas is the 3rd largest metroplex in the usa third to chicago and nyc and i’ve been to chicago and LA
@@LivingInAustinGroup there's more variety and IMO better bars. Not to mention better food options. But you're right Downtown Austin > Downtown Dallas. Although, i do like the urban neighborhoods in downton Dallas Area. Lots of cool ones
@@LivingInAustinGroup I also agree that Dallas nightlife beats Austin's. Deep Ellum, Uptown, Oak Lawn, Downtown, and Henderson offer a lot more variety and diversity than the Austin nightlife scene. Austin's nightlife (and population in general) felt very homogenized by comparison.
Great question! In my opinion, probably Austin, since outsiders are more of a common thing here. Having said that though, neither option is bad! Dallas can also be very welcoming.
@@LivingInAustinGroup Thanks. I have never been to Austin but heard a lots of great things of visiting and staying there. Is it also the best place for single adults with no children to live at?
I really don’t mean to seem biased, but I’d say Austin again! Simply because it has a higher demographic of younger single professionals, that’s very much part of the culture. But the Dallas metro can be youthful too!
The fact is Dallas is way more of an exciting city than Austin Texas. I get Austin's, boom over the past 15 years but it's still light years behind Dallas when it comes to so many other things. Dallas is a world class city with every amenity you can think of, Austin is a college town that's full of bars. You can't compare the nightlife between Austin and Dallas because Dallas have so many things going on in so many different districts all over the metroplex any given night. Austin has 6th st. I don't know about the more lakes theory He mentioned regarding Austin versus Dallas obviously he haven't never heard of grapevine lake, lake Lewisville,White Rock lake, Joe pool lake, lake ray Hubbard, to name a few. And each one of the lakes I mentioned are very huge lakes that is 20 minutes or less from downtown Dallas. The nightlife the infrastructure the restaurants the public transportation beautiful women all trump's anything Austin has to offer.
Moving to Austin in the near future. Two years out of college, what part of Austin would be ideal for a single guy to be? Ideally walking distance to many restaurants, and cost of living is not an issue
I might suggest somewhere like northwest Austin! Near or around the Domain perhaps. Or if you like it a little more lively, something near Zilker. Reach out to us and we’ll figure out the perfect spot for you!
Can’t go wrong with either city! Both are great. I haven’t experienced any cockroaches here but I’m sure they’re out there somewhere... and we’re happy to help when you need it!
Dallas has infinitely more to do than Austin. People don’t take themselves so seriously in Dallas. Austin is way too political. It’s like living in the San Francisco Bay Area.
