Hi Jeff, I purchased a CarlinKit 8+128G CarPlay Ai Box Plus, and everything works perfectly, except for Android Auto.
I have another device that allows me to have Android Auto in wireless mode that works correctly, but I would like to know if you have any advice to solve my problem. Thank you
Hmm you're connected to it via Bluetooth? What happens when you open the autokit app?
Jeff thank you for the update information.
I turned my phone's Bluetooth off as Android Auto was set to load automatically and bypassed the update process. Once that was done everything worked as you showed in the TH-cam.

Hyundai i40 2016 with Tbox plus. Had issues with Waze and Google maps like no sound comming out from speakers and after few mins of using one of those apps, carlinkit did always crash down as well as my radio... Switching from android 12 to 13 has solved the problem, so thanks for the how-to!

As of a few months ago, the last release now bakes in an app that does the update for you entirely. No more needing to ferry the update to the car via SD card.

It should be possible. You just download and reinstall the Android 12 firmware
I just got my tbox ambient and the carplay version loads fine but the android auto version doesn't work. I'm not sure why and I can't figure it out. I get a bluetooth connection failure. My phone is on A14 and the firmware says A13 but I would still expect it to be able to boot up on the car regardless of my phone right?
Yeah it doesn't matter what android version your phone is (as long as it's new enough to support android auto). I'm honestly not sure why it'd be giving issues. Is the Tbox on the latest version?
Mine is having issues recognizing the sd card. I even tried formatting the sd card from the tbox plus and when I finally did get the file in, the auto update wouldn’t run. Just opens the file as a zip file in FILES. Any suggestions?

Yea, I dropped it in a sd card and then put it in the tbox plus but nothing would happen…how was your sd card formatted? Through pc or from the tbox settings?
I think I formatted it on my PC but it's been a while
I read somewhere that said to format Sd card as FAT so I did and dropped update file to the sd card and inserted into my Tbox play and still update screen does not pop up…just gonna give up.

I'm glad it was helpful! I haven't done the review quite yet. The biggest thing I found actually was removed with the latest Android 13 update (preset split screen app combinations). One positive is Netflix now updates from the play store.

I noticed now that my music shows up finally on my car window hub when I change songs as it did not show up with V12 (I have the Ioniq6) On an other note , I have an iPhone.. is there an android app that would work on the Tbox that when someone texts me on my phone number that I see it and respond via an android app on the Tbox without going back and forth to Apple CarPlay? @alfredchalhoub1895 hmm there isn't one that I'm aware of... You could use Facebook messenger or something like that. But there isn't a way to mirror text messages that I'm aware of unfortunately.

Hi Jeff so I have a AutoKit-Tbox NOT the Plus at least when I check the version it does not say ''PLUS'', i downloaded the 12 it recognizes the update but when i click on the yes to update I get an error stating ''Illegal manufacturer update''. then it stops. the version I have is as fallows "{X7-NA-4 2022-05-30 19:39 WH:1175*768}".

Do you know your current software version? The regular Tbox I believe is Android 9.0 which can't be updated to 11, 12, 13, etc unfortunately.
Hi Jeff, I am not able to locate the FOTA update under the version. I am on Carlinkit tbox plus android 12 and want to upgrade to android 13. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
What is your Android 12 version? You may need to manually update to the latest version to get the FOTA app like I did. To get Android 13, you could download it to a USB drive too.

Hmm how major? Mine has hardly any lag. You could maybe reduce the resolution. It does say you cash reduce that if you have lag.
Hi do you know how I can get into the settings through IP address. The IP address does not work and I'm trying to change my display to full screen. I have a ram truck with the 12inch screen
It should automatically detect the size of the screen. It fills whatever size Carplay would fill.
How do you get rid of the audio lag on TH-cam, Netflix, etc?
Yours has a lag? Mine generally matches the video pretty good
Thing about A13 is split screen is ruined, Can't run split screen from other launchers, they also removed split screen short cuts. I had to downgrade back to A12
That will be coming back soon. I'm testing an A13 build with the launcher support and split screen shortcuts.

To get from Android 11 to Android 12 you need to do a firmware-flash. Can someone tell me, where to get all the needed files? On the support site some of the needed files are missing or broken. Thanks in advance :-)

My carlinkit TBox Plus cpc200 will not load it continuously reboots in a endless loop after I had selected Android Auto as the app to boot up to. How can I reset the unit if I can't get to the menus? It o ly loads to "Intelligent Interconnection System Powered by Android" and stays on that screen the reboots. Any help or suggestions you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Oh that's frustrating. Reach out to autokitcarplay.com support and explain to them what's happening. They can give next steps for troubleshooting.
Hello, looking for help please. The firmware on the Tbox Plus device shipped to me shows current version: X9-SC138-4 A13 2023-12-30. The firmware on the carlinkit website indicates 2023-10-19 therefore I assume I have the latest firmware. However, I don't see the "split" apps/views option where you can show 2 apps are different ratio's. Any thoughts? Wasn't sure if I need to download a previous version. Thanks in advance. T.
Yeah the split screen presets were removed because they didn't want to clog up the settings. I've given them feedback they should add it back. Regarding the firmware, you should be able to just use the FOTA upgrade app to get the latest firmware.
@@TechnicallyJeff Thanks. I've also emailed the company -- the more people request that feature is added back in the better. I'll maybe try load the previous firmware version to see if that had the Split option as being able to save defined app combinations on the device desktop would be useful (and a time saver).

I'm glad it's helpful! For dark mode, search in the settings for "dark" and it should come up. If you have a SIM installed in it and it shows 4G, is mobile data enabled? As for the echo, I haven't had that problem. It's your phone connected via Bluetooth?

For 4G: yes, mobile data is turned on but there is no internet (I tried APNs defaut / operator / and one showen by Carlinkit in a youtube video but in vain ) ... For calling: The echo is present in all situations: with and without phone connected to the car or the Tbox (echo always present either calling from phone connected to the Tbox or from the Tbox without phone connected).
I'm glad dark mode is working. I'm not sure about the 4G there. Did you reach out to Support@autokitcarplay.com? For the echo, I'd ask them about that too. I haven't had that issue at all.

Now some time has passed so have you encountered any problems with the update? I can then try it myself. Are you using TBox through wifi hotspot on your mobile phone? I used dedicated sim-card before, but I have moved to wifi hotspot so I don't need to pay for separate sim. iOS automations helped with activating the hotspot automatically.
Very annoying thing with TBox is the splash screen (intelligent interconnection system + autokit-tbox plus is starting...). If car has been unlocked for a moment and I go to start the car, TBox is ready to use already loaded on background and connected to BT and Wifi, even was able to enter address in Waze. Then suddenly comes the splash screen and BT + wifi disconnected and Waze reloads and address needs to be input again. This is not a problem when car is unlocked and started right away since TBox is still doing the initial startup, but so many times I see the splash screen and resets everything. Have you seen this? Does Android 13 help in any way?
The only issue I"ve had since switching from Android 12 to Android 13 was separate launchers no longer worked with the floating button and the multitasking. So now I use just the regular launcher. I do use a mobile hotspot. With my Samsung phone it automatically turns on my hotspot whenever it connects to the Tbox Plus bluetooth and it works well. For the splash screen, I only see it when I first turn on the Tbox Plus. Like you mentioned, if I unlock the car for a moment, it powers everything up and the Tbox Plus is usually ready to go (or close) when I start the vehicle. I haven't had mine restart while being in the middle of using it like you mentioned so I can't say if it specifically has been fixed. That said, each update comes with bug fixes so it could have been.
@@TechnicallyJeff Just to clarify what you mean with floating button and multitasking? I use nova launcher and want to use it with Android 13. No working floating button? Or just split screen or?
The floating button is there, but when you tap it and try to go to the task manager (task list, multitasking window, however you want to call it) it doesn't work. It's tied to Quickstep, the default launcher, and something is interfering there.

Mine (TBox Plus Android 13) is stuck in an "emergency calls" only mode (with no sim card inside..), i cannot use the screen at all, and haw 2 msgs.... 1. Check access settings - Main Project can view and control your screen. Tap to review and 2. Serial console enabled - Performance is impacted. To disable check bootloader. But.....i cannot do anything with the screen, its just black in the middle with no response....Any ideas?
Oh wow that's crazy. Emergency calls only mode makes sense since there's no SIM. You'd have to use the Bluetooth phone app to use it with your phone. BUT the other stuff is wild and doesn't make sense. Did you get it from autokitcarplay.com? If so, contact their support team. They are pretty good and should be able to help you out.

You could try that. They don't respond? Have you checked your spam? They've been good with me and others when we've had questions.
how to know when there is an updates for this products? what they put in their website is a bit outdated.
i must always asking the support center if they have a new update or not, every now and then.

If you have a recent software version you have the FOTA Upgrade app which lets you check for updates from the device itself.
@@TechnicallyJeff when i checked from fota, it says i got the newest version of it. but when i asked the support they gave me gdrive link for the most recent updates. so now i'm confuse :)

Hey from what I understand, the older Android 11 version can't be upgraded to 12 then 13 unfortunately.

Ahh gotcha. Yeah you should be able to update to Android 12, but it's my understanding you can't upgrade from 12 to 13 though. Let me know if you can though.
@TechnicallyJeff thanks for the video. This was very helpful. I was wondering if you have found a hack on how to stop your iPhone from connecting to your car accidentally. I use wireless headphones with my iPhone and often when the car wakes up, my phone automatically connects to the tbox plus and the audio gets connected on that bluetooth device.
I'm glad it was helpful! Unfortunately no. Any time the car "wakes up", it powers on the USB port and the phone will try to connect if within range. Are you waking up the car often? It should only wake up when you unlock it, check it with the app, or walk by with keys in your pocket and the mirrors fold out. It also will stay powered when the vehicle is plugged in and charging, so for that I unplug mine personally.
@@TechnicallyJeff i see it waking up even when it’s locked but I would admit that on most occasions that I park in the garage, I do not lock the car.
@darghya do you have the car linked to a utility provider?
@@TechnicallyJeff I don’t as far as I can tell. I had it linked to a couple of those programs (EV Pulse, Charging Rewards) until Jun this year but once the 12v battery issue happened I suspended those programs, deleted my kia connect account and eventually the battery was also replaced. When I recreated the kia connect account, I chose a different email and password to avoid any unintended use. But honestly, I haven’t found a way to determine what else may be connecting to the car from time to time. Even kia connect customer care said there was no way for me or them to find that out. Hence I said, I don’t think so but who knows 🤨

Hello Jeff, I have T-Box plus CPC200 Android 11,is it possible to update from Android 11 to Android 12, and then from Android 12 update to Android 13?

Unfortunately it's my understanding that's not possible. It has to have Android 12 to start to be able to get Android 13.

No I upgraded the Android 12 software to the newest version which has the FOTA app for OTA updates.

it seems you are hiding the navigation bar, does it become in full screen ? I want the left side to disappear so i can have full screen.
I'm not hiding it anymore. For full screen (videos filling entire screen) it depends on what you're watching. Some are ultra widescreen and others just normal 16:9 format.
@@TechnicallyJeff thank you, what i meant is in factory setting screen (4545) there’s option to hide the navigation bar, i want the left side to disappear so i can have full screen when i split the apps.
I did this and the box didn’t work again after restart and now waiting the replacement box to arrive.
Oh gotcha. Yeah I've hidden the navigation bar before. Yours just wouldn't load up at all with that hidden? Did you change anything else?
@@TechnicallyJeff No I didn’t change any thing else only this option after that when I plug the box only green light blinking, however i sent this back they will replace the box, can you show me how is the screen after hiding this bar ? Is it worth it ? I searched everywhere no one show the screen after hiding the bar.
It does look clean, but I prefer it with the sidebar. It makes it easier to access recent apps, see the time, go to the homescreen, etc.

Hey i updated my TBox here and now it seems like it bricked itself doesnt recognized in the car anymore. I did just purchased it but was wondering cause i went to update to latest version for better hotspot from android 13.
You have the Tbox Plus or Tbox? On the box does it say version 138?
@@TechnicallyJeff I have the TBox Ambient not the TBox plus. Maybe it's because it's a bit newer but the problem is no lights come on anymore at all from the status box. Is there a way to flash the firmware via PC and usb? I couldnt find any info on their website.

Honestly I'm not sure. I know you can do 12 to 13, but I don't think you can do 11 to 12 to 13. I'd reach out to them.
I have a glc300 2019 & did the upgrade from 12 to 13. I can’t back out of my TH-cam since update & it’s not fully compatible just with TH-cam. However I have a touch screen in my Toyota and it works perfectly fine. Could it be I’m using a motion wheel to navigate on the Mercedes glc300 which doesn’t have touch screen ?? Help I like the product but the one thing I got it for is useless 😔
Hmm I haven't heard of any issues with it. It could be that. Try changing the resolution. Enable developer settings (find the build number in settings and tap it a bunch of times) and then go to the min-width and set it to 700px and see if it changes how it displays it.
@@TechnicallyJeff still the same result. Only difference is now when I select TH-cam I can pick a video but I still can’t back out of the application or select any other videos. I have to unplug the device for it to set. I was wondering if a remote of some kind would help giving me its full functionality with TH-cam. That’s the only application I’m experiencing difficulties with.
Are you only able to use the motion wheel? No touchscreen?
@@TechnicallyJeff yes. My vehicle doesn’t have touch screen only motion wheel. That’s what’s limiting me is the motion wheel. When I use it on my Toyota which has a touch screen it all works perfectly fine.
Got it. Yeah that makes it more challenging. Hmm I'm not sure of a way around that. You could email Support@autokitcarplay.com and see if they have any tips for using the motion wheel.
Hi Jeff, I think I messed it up! Mine was a new product I received yesteray and I was eager to make hotspot and carplay work together, so I did try updating the sofware few minutes back and after the reboot, it never started back :( What can I do now?

I need some help. I checked my CarLinKit firmware and it shows current version: X9-SC138-4 A13 2023-12-30.
This leads me to believe that I am on the most current version. This is the firmware the device was shipped with.
I am using an iPhone 13pro and the vehicle is a 2023 f150 with wired/wireless CarPlay/Android Auto. The device will connect via Bluetooth, but I am unable to use my WiFi Hotspot to be able to use my cellular connectivity for maps, streaming and other functionality. I followed your instruction in your firmware update video but have not gone through the process because the device is what I think to be the latest firmware.
Any idea on how to fix the issue?
You can't connect to your phone's wifi hotspot? Does it not show the hotspot in the list of wifi networks on the Tbox Plus? Yes, you're on a very new firmware so I wouldn't update it manually.
@@TechnicallyJeff That's correct, I cannot connect to my iPhone WiFi hotspot. The hotspot does appear in the list of wifi networks on the tbox. When I select the hotspot network to connect I ultimately get an, "IP configuration failure" this is displayed on the tbox wifi newwok screen under the name of my iphone.
I decided to download and update the software and try it again and I get the same error.
What could I be doing wrong? Normally I'm somewhat savvy but this has got me feeling foolish.
Hmm are there any hotspot settings on the iPhone that you can change that might improve compatibility? I honestly use Android 99.9% of the time so I'm not as familiar from the iPhone side.
@@TechnicallyJeff the only thing i can change is the security settings, ie, WAP2/WAP3 and None. I've tried all 3. still no connection...
I'm going to try to reset everything and start from scratch, for the 4th time.
Hmm check the TBox Plus wifi settings too. There might be an option there that might trigger it to be able to connect.

There are a number of bug fixes listed. It also should be smoother in general on Android 13. There are a few different features too. You can set a saved two app setup which is pretty neat.
You always want to be on the latest release at minium for security updates.

I did this the other day and it got WAY less reliable, coming from the Android 12 version. I wouldn't do it!
Really? What issues are you having? My split screen works great with my apps and I haven't had any crashes.
