This was a huge help. I'm in the process of making a Doom 2016 video and needed the Combat Shotgun for a particular scene I'm working on and I couldn't find it anywhere but in the Source Filmmaker Workshop. So thank you so much for explaining this and expanding my ability to attain assets for my animations, it's really appreciated.

So i ported the model into blender but now I am lowkey stuck on how to fix the textures. I am a noob to blender so I don't know how to put new textures on a model
3:45 i didnt understand this part since you werent showing how to do all of that, you were just telling it, so you give a step by step video on how to do that
@Agentsecret24 Yeah cause I would love to import my own GMOD Worms models to Blender and do animations with it but It could be difficult to do but I know what to do now which makes things easier for me...well sort of. We'll to be honest I think Gmod is the more easiest software for me to use on animation. maybe for SFM but who knows🫤
Well for Blender I think it could be a good way to make animations & models myself probably do some Minecraft animations or probably Cuphead animations maybe ok I don't know about Sprunki or Garten Of BanBan cause people we're saying it's pretty Overrated as heck and quite vicious and dark as heck. Same with Slendytubbies 3. But I like them so what I mean they're Indie Horror games and yes they're mascot horror games and I'm ok with that. ok the Garten Of BanBan one is just...MEH😑 don't like it👎
But I'm more focused on my Worms stuff like my own minisodes with on my TH-cam channel called "Bikkit VS Grikkit" and other stuff right now then Sprunki & Slendytubbies. Cause Bikkit & Grikkit are my characters and worms is my main favorite game franchise of all time. But Sprunki & Slendytubbies are my OK thing so yeah it's not that bad just the Content Farm Channels and the GameToons B*LLSHIT just ruined the game for the creator & the game itself. And yeah it's not nice isn't it😒😮💨 Yeah tell me about it😤
Words cannot describe how much this video is useful to me been scratching my head using an outdated addon and crowbar program But this ? This is perfect
I picked blender like last month and this was the most useful thing for me to use when I want to recreate a model while having a better view of it, thank you a lot(I forgot to comment this before)
great tutorial, it is a little complex at first but after you get used to it it becomes easy 🗣🔥, by the way, how do I use the shape keys with the SFM models but in blender?
@@Agentsecret24 Normally a model with (shape keys) originating from blender would have them in that tab but in this case nothing appears and I think that many SFM models use this keys thing, I guess it is a big problem, if you know how to solve it tell me pls🤓
@@lettttuce My prefered way(when Auto Rig Pro doesn't get the job done) is to use the Bone Widget addon github.com/waylow/boneWidget It streamlines the entire process. However this video shows you how to do it in stock Blender(no additional addons required) th-cam.com/video/MsaizyiaiZY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zPbGKe-GqDBr-0YY
Probably. The version I used in the video is 4.1.1 the current version is 4.2, but if you have an AMD graphics card there are some very odd shadow glitches so go with 4.1 if you have an AMD card.
Im not sure what im doing wrong, im following everything to the letter, but the model wont import into blender. is there something im missing? I've tried both 4.1 and 4.2 and nothing happens. please help!!!
The easiest way is to use the app "Everything" by Void Tools(it's linked in the video's description) You go to the model's materials and copy the name into everything and you should find a .vtf file. Put that as the image texture for the material.
@Agentsecret24 I tried going on that website when it said it didn't work then I typed the message they said would help into powershell but then came up with a new error
That depends. If youve already imported the model(and either auto packed the textures or re exported them as PNGS) then SFM should have no baring on the textures. It should be safe to delete without problems appearing.
Question, after importing the mdl files into blender, do we have to rig the model to make them move? And if so, how does one rig these mdl models so they can be usable in blender?
The models are technically "rigged" as in the mesh of the model is bound to deform bones. So it's technically posable. However if you want to do more than just simple renders, you're going to want some nicer controls to look at(especially if the face uses bones instead of shape keys) The way I do it is through auto Rig Pro and Quick rig, however that's a bit pricy at a little over $60. So currently the best budgetary option without starting over and using rigify or cloudrig is to do it manually.
Ok, so basically you need to import the texture manually. To do this, find a material that did import correctly and copy the name of the texture into Everything and open the file path that comes up, then import the missing VTFs(That's the file that SFM uses for texture) using SourceIO, and then you have to set up the broken materials manually, like you would any other blender material.

thank you for this video cuz it actually helped me do something i've been trying to do alot of times, but, there is one thing bothering me about it, which is when i import the model and i move one of its bones it starts to get really lag (especially with fnaf models). and i've tried to disable some objects in viewport since it comes in bodygroups and it does help but not always it helps since depending on the model it might not have any bodygroups or if it has bodygroups it still doesn't really fix the lag issue. and i dont know if anyone has commented about this aswell but i just really wanted to know whats causing the lag because if i open the blender version of the model (in case the sfm model is just a port of the original blender model) the model won't lag not even one bit. so that's what i don't understand, do you maybe know a solution or atleast what's causing it to lag so much???
It sounds to me like the actual meshes themselves have a very high polygon count. There are a few ways to fix this. One I've used in the past is just have a decimated duplicate of the mesh only visible in the viewport(turn the camera icon off in the outliner) and have the high poly one only show up in the render(turn off the monitor icon in the outliner). Just make sure you apply the decimate modifier..
Yes, well kind of. If you don't even need to use the Endo skeleton, you can just hide that in the viewport. But for the ones you do need to decimate luckily Blender makes it really easy. Once youve got one decimate modifier set up, select all the other parts and make sure the one with the Decimate is the active selection (it should have a brighter orange glow than the rest of the selected objects) then navigate to the modifier menu, and in the drop-down there's an option called apply to selected, or copy to selected(I can't remember off the top of my head) it'll copy the modifiers to each of the selected meshes. However in order to apply the modifier to all of them, you do need to go through and do it one by one.
@@Agentsecret24 hey sorry for the late response i kinda forgot about doing anything else with the sfm models since i just gave up on it but i now tried the decimate method but i didnt find the apply to selected or copy to selected option anywhere. im using blender 2.8 so could it be that the option isn't avaible on that blender version or older versions???
Ok I did some looking around in 2.8 and I found a solution. To copy modifiers to objects just select them in object mode, then shift-click the mesh with the Decimate modifier to make sure it's the active selection. Then press Ctrl+L and select modifiers in the menu that appears. Then to apply the decimate modifiers, press Ctrl+A and select visual Geometry to Mesh.
