I've been fortunate enough to drive the various R.S models of both the Clio and Megane and I have to say Ciro is spot on about everything he said about this car.
Great video! As a Megane RS 280 Cup owner, it is as you say, a proper hot hatch with handling that is up there with the very best. The performance is more than enough and in anything but a straight road it will beat the compitition! Yes the suspension can be a bit firm depending on how bad the road is but at speed it just grips like no other and really comes into it's own. Sad to see they will no longer be a ICE RS but I think the EV madness will come back to bite people in the you know what...
Love the touch on those safety belts, 1 wonders when VW will introduce blue safety belts for the Golf R and red 1s for the GTI; even as optional extras just to make them a bit more special
@@mbonenineluvhola15depends on your luck.. i currently have my second Trophy 300 and have had zero issues on the second one. First one had the exhaust flap squeak and a battery failure, but thats not a big problem..

It's unfortunate how this and the Type R appear as enthusiast cars rather than hothatches for everyone as Golf/Polo GTI's or R's or Focus/Fiesta ST's or RS for most people
The Meg RS300 Trophy is fantastic..... have had one for three years now. Am I right, it looks like you don't have the recaro seats in that test car? The recaros are unbeatable.
Hi from the uk, i have the mk4 phase 2 megane rs 300, i went from the sport chassis rather than the trophy because i think it suits the british b roads much much more, still a proper focused hot hatch but slightly softer springs, but trust me it is still a hard-core hot hatch, i changed from a cupra formentor vz2 310, vag cars are good at straight line speeds these might not be as fast but they definitely make you smile in the corners.

@@van_der_lindeDA yes I have. The Golf R is cheaper while being better in every way that matters. So is an actual RWD sportscar like the Toyota 86. And also the AWD Subaru WRX. All cheaper than a FWD hatch.
Renault have so much motor racing and F1 heritage. Engine and constructor championships and the first to bring turbo charging to F1. They know their stuff.
I heard a long time ago that RS is bo longer and in fact Renault in F1 done away with that titoe too just before launching their Alpine brand mainstream. It is unfortunate but they were in financial difficulties too. I wonder where the madcaps at Renault sport will go....they came up with crazy stuff
Forgot about another Hot Hatch that's on the market, the Hyundai i30N. It definitely isn't a slacker and it comes reasonably priced than all the cars mentioned in this video.
Imagine the depreciatiion of this car ( not like the Renault enthusiasts care ) . Then there are all the issues this car will give you in a few years, but I guess that is the nature of hot hatches though with the abuse they take.
This is so interesting, we need to do a video on South African sunroof culture. Tell us, why do you love a sunroof? We'll use your answer, if you're willing, in the video. Thanks so much
@Carscoza personally I have no specific science for this but I honestly feel that a hot hatch is not complete until it has a sunroof. Yes there's more to a car than a panoramic roof but lets be honest, have you seen how "incomplete" a car like a golf gti looks when it doesn't have it. What I'm trying to say is, these type of cars are marketed to those who are young at heart, people who enjoy the drive, love sticking their arm out when driving slowly (with music) on the Atlantic seaboard. It's more than just a car to take to the track. It's a lifestyle. We South Africans love our sunroofs, that's why we even have aftermarket ones fitted in😅
Just to clarify the car always starts in Mysense (regular) mode. 1 press of the RS button puts you in Sport, 2 presses in Save (eco) mode, hold puts you in race mode. While the digital dash does take a moment to refresh, the change is instant, just press the RS button to the mode you want and keep driving.
The funniest thing I ever saw was a Renault Megane F1 take on a 330i BMW at 3am on the stretch of highway that goes past the cement factory between Gillooleys and Alberton...neck and neck up to about 200 kmph, then the Renaults engine popped and left a very wide and noticeable oil stain across all 4 lanes until it came to a dead stop...the BMW kept going, with that 6cyl beauty of an engine howling into the Highveld winter night... The French build cars about as well as they fight wars...
