*UPDATE* after filming I looked up the Tower 28 glosses and I was right, “Oat” has COMPLETELY changed color from a very pale pink to a kind of sickly orange peach. This is what it used to look like: shop-links.co/cfIEZqYvZH0 Given that something questionable has happened inside both tubes of this gloss since I purchased them AT THE END OF MARCH a mere six months ago, I’ve decided to declutter both of them. It sucks because I really like Tower28 as a brand, and I really like the gloss formula (the clear glitter gloss “Magic” is actually almost completely used up). I’m not above giving the brand more chances in the future. But I don’t want to put these funky glosses on my lips anymore, especially since I have so many other less concerning options. It’s probably because the brand is ‘clean’. There’s a lot of preservatives they have on their ‘no-no list’, which makes me think the glosses are simply not designed to last. One of the downsides of ‘clean’ beauty - if I put an avocado in a bottle, it’s going to go bad WAY quicker than if I put an avocado and preservatives in a bottle haha.
I think the clean beauty definitely is a the type that you can't just have for years. If you are a beauty collector and you're not actively always using those lip glosses it makes sense for them to eventually turn. The shelflife is probably not very long. I wouldn't be surprised if the expiration date is something like six months. I've never experienced this with the products but I have panned almost all of my tower 28 glosses in six months or less.
Can I tell you how much I love that you leave these videos almost uncut? There is something so satisfying about watching you arrange things against those beautiful backdrops.
I must confess I kinda dig the pale coral 60's/70's shade Tower 28's Oat became, but I would not have kept it either knowing it started as a pale pink color, definetely something funky going on! This made me miss being able to go out maskless with my lip glosses on 💗

The Tower 28 glosses can’t be left In Light or they start to turn color. I worked at Sephora and we constantly had to make new testers every month for these because the color would change pretty easily.
My Tower28 lip glosses have changed color too :( I have Magic and it used to be a very clear gloss with some gold flecks, but after a few months it turned REALLY yellow (like light neon yellow). I'm not sure if it's an ingredient in the formula that degraded or what, but the scents are not off and the other glosses I have (Fire and Almond) both look and feel the same as before. I think the color change is probably more noticeable in the lighter-colored glosses too.

Yup. I checked because I ordered my tower 28 gloss in November 2020 and I noticed last month that it was starting to go off so I panned the rest of it quickly. Which has made me very aware of my other glosses that are “clean” beauty and am actively panning those as well.
I have a huge impending declutter that I've been dreading, but watching this lip declutter mini-series is giving me courage. I want to feel lighter too!
about the tower28 glosses, I have ones i purchased 2 years ago that are still good, but I've seen more people that purchased them more recently have them go off incredibly quickly. seeing that has reminded me just how fast lip products may randomly go bad and has deterred me from purchasing more, which my wallet is happy about!

Completely unrelated but I just finished listening to My Cousin Rachel and you're the only being that can offer me any sense of solace 😂 so on with the gloss declutter! I only have 5 glosses/ lipsticks total I believe and that's come a long way. I used to probably have over 100 or more! Glad I realized what I actually liked and stopped watching mainstream channels years ago.

I was just watching your lipstick video over the week-end and when I reached for a lipstick this morning it was definitely turned. I think the pandemic just has me not wearing as much lipstick and so many of them haven't even been opened in like 2 years.
i've been avoiding clean beauty products because i'm still too new to makeup as a hobby to understand if it's feasible for me to pan something before it expires... seeing those tower 28 glosses makes me think that's been a good policy :'( when i bought some lipsticks from rom&nd, they came with little stickers where you could record the date you first opened them & i thought that was really thoughtful.

after watching Hannahs update in recent videos on the tower 28 gloss i went to my clear tower 28 gloss in chill that had about an 8th of it left… the doe foot was a blue grey!

But when I really think about the fact that one basically sticks the applicator INTO one's mouth and then back into the product I get really skeezed out and now they MUST go. That leaves me with only one such product (fresh) and I can live with that - for now.
Your collection is inspiring as always Hannah!! I've really fallen out of love with lip gloss, I love the sheeny goodness but since having a break over covid I can't deal with how sticky they are 🙃 I think lip oils + the glossier Ultralip have really filled that hole in my makeup bag for me
I agree Oat looks weird. I have found that colors will change or pigments break down if I have had lip products for a bit even if they still smell fine.

I just bought a Lancôme Rouge Absolut lipstick at Macy’s in hopes I’ll get to wear it WITHOUT a mask covering it. That’s part of the reason I stick to the drugstore when it comes to color lip products. The other reason is that lipstick doesn’t last long on me anyway.
I never think about how old my makeup is, it never occurs to me. But I remember buying some of my glosses back when you could just walk freely into any store without a care in the world….and that was 2 to 3 years ago, so yikes, some of my glosses are very old.
Wonderful video, Hannah! So strange about the Tower 28 glosses. Has the Flower Beauty gloss done the same thing? If my memory is correct, those two glosses are often compared.

I tried that Lancôme natural mauve because it looked so pretty and natural on you and we have similar pale skin tones. Alas…it looked like dead body on me. ☹️
So weird about the Oat Tower 28 gloss. I have coconut, cashew and chill, all longer than 6 months, and thankfully none of mine have turned. Keep us posted if you find out any new info! They have to have a preservative too; otherwise they would go rancid very fast.
Hot chocolit by fenty is my favourite gloss and even though I own 5 glosses I almost exclusively use that one haha Tells me what I should repurchase and not!
I tried to get into gloss, but it is logistically challenging. I have to ask…how do you wear gloss without getting your hair stuck to your lip every 3 seconds?

I think I've heard that the tower 28 glosses only have a 6 month life span which is really unfortunate

I have one lipgloss. I'm in no hurry to buy another. I use a nude liquid lipstick most of the time instead.
I have Oat from Tower 28 and mine also turned that strange orangey peach color. I wonder why that is and/or if they'll ever address it?
