I think the biggest reason why the game is visually a turnoff is lighting. Env light is so bright and makes scene look flat. I hope user can customize the light to some extent. One scene where I find it quite pretty is with the huge pink crystal. Imagine a sunsrise forest room with nice volumetric fog and particles. It would be miles better what is currently shown.

As far as different factions go, personally, I'd make a main, and then a ironman type of a different faction. Regardless, not super worried about the different syles
I don't think the visuals look bad... Even the block-style maps are fine, but I do wish they had done a more hybrid system where the z-axis is a little less blocky. I think that would have given the land a more realistic look/feeling despite being broken up into squares otherwise. The animations in the looped footage actually looked really good and made the scenes look fairly vibrant and "alive", so I think the game does still have potential if they nail the more important stuff like quality quests and whatnot.
The more I learn about this game, the more excited I am for it. Day 1 on a new mmo or expansion is unmatched, I quite like the idea of early access on this one as it won't be too overwhelming and you can progress very steadily. When the game is done, it'll be nice to just pick what you want to do though
@6:00 I love that you used Animal Apogee as background song. That's the unofficial Summoning song from RS2 back in the day. I really miss that skill pre-EOC.
I like the room design concept. I'll be interested to see if it can hold up to the peak MUDs of old. Peak MUDs were so much more than just W/N/E/S room design/traversal. I'm also very interested in the concept of room growth over time (new rooms added as population increases). I wonder if this will be dynamic (more rooms per region population) vs. static (introducing more rooms as concurrent populations increase over macro time periods). If these two things are done well, I could see myself easily addicted to this type of game. If done bad, I could see this being an AFK nightmare.
I've seen a lot of interest from current RS players and longtime RS players looking to return to a RS-like game. Definitely excited to play the quests. Paul Gower is the narrative designer so you're probably right they'll be S tier. I'll see if it keeps my interest over time, might be something I play on the side alongside OSRS. I'm optimistic, but I do honestly dislike the graphics (slowly growing on me) and I cringe that autoplay on logout might be included (I guess that combats botting).
Im really conflicted on this one. The classes look horrible but I really like that they dont punish afk skilling. It doesnt sound like they have a limited skill system either, so i dont really see why you would not just level everything, but then how does anything have value if everyone can do everything? If maxing the skills is easier than runescape then there is no limiter that gives value to what you are gathering/making. Perhaps they have a really well designed consumable and items sink system that is not public, but thats what it would need for these skills to feel meaningful to level for me.

I really hope the quests are well written and the skilling is a lot more in-depth. The skilling in runescape can often leave something to be desired, so if they can nail that, I'll be playing this a lot I think.
Looking at this video now... I really hope you release a new, updated video soon. Brighter shores has class specific gear. Trading is locked behind the subscription. The cheapest subscription is in-fact a monthly subscription, the 1 off payments every, either 3 or 12 months, are more expensive. Chapters have specific gear only usable in that chapter. I'm very surprised by many of the statements in this video.
Absolutely going to try it out. Andrew Gower has my full confidence and worst case scenario, we get to try something different and fresh, so what's there to lose?
I'm cautiously optimisitic yet at the same time I do trust that it will be good. Honestly I think that a lot of my concern comes from it just being so radically different from anything else on the market but that will likely be its biggest strength. I'll definitely be playing.
As a RS player that started when RS2 launched; being able to also experience a new Runescape-esque by the Gower brothers has me excited! The moment the Gower brothers left is when RS went downhill with nobody to protect it from greedy investors. It's not just MTX, it's the whole feel of the game. OSRS gets the love it deserves, but all the new updates for RS3 feel like an empty shell. There's tons of content that players were excited for that have been shelved as they can't be asked to do a bit of long term development on the side whilst working on primary updates. It's of no fault to the devs though, many of them love the game, but they're denied the ability to express their love in favor of cash grabs the investors push. I hope Brighter Shores blows up in the coming year to prove the Gowers brother's way of producing a popular MMO
It reminds me of the game Mod Ash was talking about back in the day that Jagex was working on. A game based off of Dungeoneering from RS3. Really looking forward to trying out Brighter Shores. Note: The song you used, Animal Apogee, is by far my favorite soundtrack from RS
Most of the time, I can tell if I like an MMORPG before I even play it. In this case, I genuinely have absolutely ZERO clue of what to expect. I'm excited and optimistic, but I'll also gladly continue to just play runescape if it doesn't turn out to be something I enjoy a whole lot.
I've played runescape since 2006, I am so happy there is finally a game to pull me away from it. I am so hyped for this game, and the fact that it is more 'casual' makes it even more appealing to me. I cannot wait for november!
@@janitor8884 I think almost all of us on WoW side tried for almost 2 decades to find something else but all games just go pay to win or they are too weird like final fantasy (the game feels very clunky to me) . The graphics and art style aren't exactly Throne of Liberty or anything mind blowing, but here for the in depth gameplay - never got the chance to play Runescape so I'm looking forward to trying this.
Taking in to account Runescape's actually very short draw distance for entities and players and how different floors of a building are separate planes of existence, BS's system of "rooms" isn't all that much a departure, and i imagine makes more complex entities and mechanics easier to implement.
I've never played any RuneScape, but I am interested in this game. The reason being is it looks simple, but also seems it can have complexity where you want it to. I dislike current MMORPGs that require you to master a rotation and understand 8 or so bosses and their 12 mechanics each. I'll be honest, I'm not good enough for those types of games and I'm not afraid to admit it. I hope I can enjoy this game with simple mechanics and lots to do. I do have a lot of issues with the game so far, but hoping the closed beta gives us more videos on the gameplay (especially combat and how rooms work with many players on it). I would like for the rooms to be maybe 4x bigger though. Right now they seem too small and that is me thinking of 1-2 players on it at one time. Thinking of 10+ or 100+ players when it launches in one tiny room doesn't excite me at all.
I wanted to get into Runescape a few years back but it never grabbed me. granted, I'm not a hardcore MMORPG gamer to begin with, the most I've played in any sort of MMO type games are either Destiny 2 or Stalcraft. but with this game's design being inspired by DnD, I might get easily hooked into it. Always wanted to get into runescape, never could. Oldschool felt sluggish and to slow. Runescape 3, immediatly bombared with 1000 menu's and weird UI descisions overall, did not like it. Brigther Shores sounds exacly like what im looking for, im excited
Multiple characters/alt system is actually a huge deterrent for me. I don’t see why modern games can’t be designed not to have the player experience what they have already experienced yet once again. Probably will not play it because of that to be honest
It doesn't seem to be needed imo. As long as we aren't limited to a number of professions per character, then one class should suffice. Limiting professions would require alts, though, so I hope that doesn't happen, because I would agree with you on that and not play.
looks very runescapy and i personally will give it a shot if not for anything else but nostalgia, after that will see if it sticks. On the other note i fully expect the servers to go down on launch day and the game basically be unplayable, havent seen any mmo in years that did not have this issue, like oh no who could of expected hundreds of thousands of people to try and play on the same day of launch...
This will probably be a decent hit for its intended audience but I personally want something more modern looking with more production values. The wait for a genuine competitor to FFXIV and WoW continues.
finally a good runescape type for me since runescape itself is hard to play as a new player and only for old nostalgic ppl like any old mmorpg which you return to for memories

Ashes of Creation, Chrono Odyssey, Archage 2 are the only good looking MMOs coming out in the near future but who knows
Xiv is boring 😴
Corepunk is gonna be the best when it comes out.
finally a good runescape type for me since runescape itself is hard to play as a new player and only for old nostalgic ppl like any old mmorpg which you return to for memories
This channel is irreplaceable for mmo content
Looks great im excited for a game to play with osrs at the same time!
This game looks Insane, probably people going to either Love it or hate it
