@AzureRabbit11 There are certain features in RuneScape that this game looks to be improving upon or even just doing differently such as having a skillcape which gets longer (and assuming with better perks) as you progress through the skill. Being able to AFK skill while offline is also a really good concept and how the servers will automatically migrate you to less busy ones as you move into other zones instead of world hopping are all really cool improvements on the runey systems. It's the thinking "outside of the box" which will be really cool to see. It's hard to say with certainty why this game is better because it's not out yet but my comment was more around the fact that I'm looking forward to playing it because of the developer being Andrew Gower who in my opinion is yet to make a bad game due to how successful RuneScape is. Well, I'm specifically talking about OSRS because that's generally what I play.

Honestly I was kinda skeptical at first. I figured it would be quite challenging for a game to be similar to RS and comparably good but still offer a different experience at the same time - but so far everything I'm seeing makes it look like they might actually deliver on that. I'm excited to try it.

Gamers are never satisfied so why bother on stuff that just takes up more memory to render at a distance that isn’t even important to the core of the game? In this style of game it makes sense. It saves resources and allows more to happen in the area your in without causing lag whenever you move your camera to a view that renders more of the world.
I understand he was inspired by tabletop games and point and click adventures, but I really wish the environment wasn't all blocky and made of squares. One of the appeals of Runescape was the ability to feel engrossed in the world, but this game just looks like you're playing a character that's running around a game your friend made in a DnD 3D map editor.
I like the way you described this. It's definitely something that's going to be divisive between players who like the tabletop feel and don't. He actually stated they used to have wooden tiles and it was even blockier, but they felt it was too far.
@@Teloril I'm glad that he seems to have reeled that aesthetic in a bit. I'm very curious to see how it plays beyond just grinding for skills, such as the social aspect, quests, and combat. Runescape is already such an intense grind of a game, that introducing another game with a similar grinding aspect that you'll also have to pay monthly for to have the full experience might be a bit too much.

Super hyped for this game but confused about the episodic nature, one thing I hate in rs is questing so if I can't unlock mining until episode 2/3 I am going to be upset. Hope quests are better/easier to do here.

There are many things wrong with this game, and one of the things is the mindset of the Dev behind it. Unique Names and Trading between players being locked behind a subscription? What is this archaic way of thinking? On top of that, skills being locked to specific zones/episodes is also beyond.....special to put politely. Then there's the Zones being locked behind a subscription ontop of it. I've said it for years about RS, and I'll say it again here: Level Cap F2P characters to half of the max level cap for zones beyond the initial two f2p zones, ontop of that open up all zones to every player. Idc how cheap the sub is compared to others, the mindset behind the creation and systems of the game is archaic as it can get. There is a level of charm to some, but things like only 2 zones being accessible for F2P, Skills being locked to specific zones being meaningless outside of their specific zones, Unique Namings, and Player Trading is just so so so bad. You're not gonna keep players around for long. No matter your rep, and especially if you design the grind to be outright a slog. Idm grind in MMOs, I expect it. But it reaches a point where I'd rather just go play something else that's free and offers far more than what this game offers. From OSRS to Throne & Liberty, etc.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this game but at the same time, I kinda think Andrew has shot himself in the foot a little bit with it. He's said it's not just another Runescape... Which is fine, but like... The only only people that know he exists are Runescape players... Shouldn't they be his target audience? @@Teloril They are a small team with decades of experience, who do most dev work themselves and they also have the goodwill of the a massive community, who will play the game no matter what. I dont see how the sub would be necessary here, esp. since the competition these days is crazy. For example Path of Exile 2 will go into EA just 9 days later. I think that game will be huge. Also if you look at the market, hardly any modern MMORPGs release with a sub these days. There is a reason for that. I think it really limits their potential player-base, giving the game is very niche to begin with, its another limiting factor. Yes RS players are more likey to sub, but people outside that bubble probably not, unless the f2p content is better than RS or more than a trial. MMOs just don't really work long term with a single up front payment. hosting for these things is absurdly expensive, and the more and the longer people play the worse it gets. if you want something like this to last, and to be continually updated with new content, you need a constant cash flow. and that's just to stay afloat. there's a reason so many of these fail
Box price is a method that usually hurts people trying the game and ongoing development. Monthly subscription is healthies way to keep an mmo going longterm
We joke about that yeah, but Andrew believes by building the economy in a certain way as well as empowering the player to progress (slower) while offline, he can combat bots that way. He approaches it as a more 'philosophical' "Why do people bot?" Angle. I'm sure there's other protections in place and obviously bots and RMT will exist in any big game, but I'm interested in seeing how it goes

I dont see how the sub would be necessary here, esp. since the competition these days is crazy. For example Path of Exile 2 will go into EA just 9 days later. I think that game will be huge. Also if you look at the market, hardly any modern MMORPGs release with a sub these days. There is a reason for that. I think it really limits their potential player-base, giving the game is very niche to begin with, its another limiting factor. Yes RS players are more likey to sub, but people outside that bubble probably not, unless the f2p content is better than RS or more than a trial.

MMOs just don't really work long term with a single up front payment. hosting for these things is absurdly expensive, and the more and the longer people play the worse it gets. if you want something like this to last, and to be continually updated with new content, you need a constant cash flow. and that's just to stay afloat. there's a reason so many of these fail
Box price is a method that usually hurts people trying the game and ongoing development. Monthly subscription is healthies way to keep an mmo going longterm

A game made for bots?
We joke about that yeah, but Andrew believes by building the economy in a certain way as well as empowering the player to progress (slower) while offline, he can combat bots that way.
He approaches it as a more 'philosophical' "Why do people bot?" Angle.
I'm sure there's other protections in place and obviously bots and RMT will exist in any big game, but I'm interested in seeing how it goes
