People saying it's rough around the edges but like, I played RS Classic. I'm sure this'll have its fans if that did. Every time I rub my wrists in pain I wax nostalgically to all those many, many many hours individually clicking on the single lobster and fire to train cooking, or re-typing the same messages for 10 hours to then sell those lobsters.
The only think I feel like Brighter Shores actually needs right now is a proper UI, this is really really bad, but I mean, the game is rough but that's nice.
At first I was against the knowledge system until I realized what it meant for the meta. The best way to play the game is not to go after the best method regardless of if you enjoy it, it's to go after a method *because* you enjoy it. Very few games are cool with you just playing the game how you want and not just forcing you into everything, even content you hate.
what do you mean...? What do you mean by methods... can you level woodcutting without cutting wood? I have never seen any of these other "methods"... what are these other ways of playing the game?
@@Holborovv Yeah, literally. Once a skill hits 20 you can spend knowledge on it. This means you can unlock passive activities (which mean you literally don't have to use it anymore; it just levels up when you're not playing), and you can convert the knowledge directly into xp like a runescape xp lamp. For example, if you like cooking more than smithing, you can just spend all your time cooking and when you get knowledge points from cooking, you can dump them into the three smithing skills. Knowledge starts to convert bad at level 200, so if someone gets a skill past 200 they either kept making really bad decisions or they actually enjoy using that skill. Also since 5 star difficulty quests never need a skill to go above level 70, you'll never feel like you *need* to go past 200 to enjoy the game.
I like to think the monster level table is just a representation of Andrew's fears. A carnivorous plant is scary, but nothing makes Andrew sweat more than the thought of a Swashbuckling Pirate when he's out enjoying life on his boat.
It is sad to see his passion being sullied by corporate greed, but glad he has something to call his own again. I've been addicted to this game since day one also. Knowing how passionate he is about game development, I'm looking forward to seeing where he takes it and taking the journey with him as a player. The constant, near daily updates show how much the guys are putting into this as well which is nice.

I would call BS; Cozy and Familiar. :) Though the number of people I've baffled by the step under and heal method is embarrassing.
I'm very glad the Gowers went on to something new, I was harsh on the game but they've already made some huge improvements and I love how responsive they have been to feedback.
32:25 - That’s me! Ritchie. Excellent video. Didn’t know the Andy G backstory regarding his exit from RS. Horrible way to come away from something which has meant so much to us over the years. This game has a lot of potential. Really enjoying it at the moment 👌
59:17 The closest thing to a slow skill where you have to pay attention but it's not click intensive in Old School is probably Giant's Foundry for Smithing. If you AFK to the point where you don't line up the heat with the correct activity or overdo an activity, you break the sword and lower the GP and XP reward, letting some of the XP rates go to waste
While it's still fairly bare-bones (early access how about that?), the bones it has are good. It's in many ways the ultimate chill game. There's no massive "endgame" to rush to, no push to make the most hyper-engaging content; it seems to be a game that knows what it is and is okay with those limits. I also really respect the openness with the steam posts and the regular updates. Only played for a day or two so far but will definitely log in from time to time whenever I need a chill game between RS breaks.
Not going to lie a lot of this games dialog and text is lost on me. But you narrating it in your video between the crab's clickity clack clack and the man explaining how the shells are huuuuge made me appreciate it so much more so for that I thank you.
By design, new episodes aren't supposed to noticeably simplify older episode content, so that old achievements don't devalue, but future episodes will benefit from old professions like merchant, similar to woodcutter being used in weapon making. Merchant affecting older shops would make the content of the first 3 episodes easier. They could've done it of course, since it's in the game at launch, but decided not to, probably to avoid misleading players. But in general, you're supposed to be able to pick your favorite "old school" version of the game at any point in time in the future and not be affected by newer episodes, e.g. up to episode 4, before the game got RUINED with episode 5 (lol). Even the people you'll play with won't have any real advantage over you in the episodes you choose. They have to be careful of course, it's not guaranteed. EDIT: The reason you're dying in combat is because you're fighting enemies very close to your level. Fighting someone exactly your level is a 50% chance to die, unless you have REALLY good gear. It makes perfect sense, just different from Runescape where we kill enemies way higher level with ease.
damn watching this felt nostalgic for a game i've yet to play, your childlike whimsy is infectious also, as a fellow deep-voiced person, your voice FUCKS. it's smooth and comforting, one of the main reasons i started watching your vids long ago. i know as a woman you probably hate it, but i think it makes you super unique and i fuck with it
I knew I saw you in Hopeforest. I said to myself: "They're definitely WCing right now." I love it. Needs some polish, but he's literally dropped an update with heavily requested features EVERYDAY. 51hrs in right now. Total lvl about 380.
I've had a good amount of fun playing this. Feels surreal in an innocent, progression based way and I think if Andrew can keep building on this it could be pretty magical
Note that your Class currently only has a couple direct effects. This is mostly focused on the elemental interactions which just is some kind of general DPS boost against enemies weak to it but specifically how is not clear. 1) You become permanently vulnerable to its weakness. (Cryo>Arbor>Tempest>Cryo). Many enemies attack using a specific element. So if you choose Cryoknight its harder to beat enemies who attack using Tempest. 2) Your locked out of some gear and weapon types (mostly cosmetic as most non crafted weapons are not locked and there are functional equivalents between each class) for the other classes. 3) Weapons have an activation chance to convert their damage into an element. This is usually 30-45%. This chance is doubled for your chosen element (so CryoKnights will have 60-90% chance to deal Cryo damage when using a Cryo weapon) 4) Eventually there will be some spells/weapon skills related to your class, but we don't know how those will work.
@Hananniee I have not seen any concrete data on how weaknesses work. It just seems that DPS somehow goes up when exploited. Max hit doesn't seem to go up, you can still hit 0s, yet it's clear on average it's easier to beat em if you exploit it and you lose more if you get exploited.
Its been a LONG time since i watched such a long video in one sitting..until this video. Absolutely amazing! Id love to follow and watch your progression through this amazing game called Brighter Shores!
I hate handholding so out of spite I played first few days without clicking the quest button once. You can't progress the obelisk quest, but I made it to level 20s in ep1 professions before I caved in and as an added bonus all the subsequent tutorial helpers I had already achieved appeared at once so that was nice.
I've only played the game for a short bit so far... But i already really love what I'm seeing in the game. I see all the promise behind it... Everybody comparing it to runescape and saying it's not as good as runescape are fools... Of course it wont be as good as runescape... It's an early access project, it's barely on its feet... It needs time to get rolling.
By the way, I was also shocked when I found out people were hating on the game. I've been having the time of my life on it and couldn't even have guessed that it wasn't the same for other people lol. I've actually been grinding skills ACTIVELY all day, with nothing else on the side. I didn't even think you could make regular ass grinding so enjoyable. It's like a solid 9/10 for me and it's not even finished yet.
Never got into RS, OSRS, RS2/3; none of them. Too passive for a hyped up kid. But now, as An Old; Brighter Shores is SOOOO good! All the quirks you feel when you first start the game all start to make since as you go thru. 8.5/10 (because not finished) HIGHLY recommend you give it a shot even IF you aren't a RS Stan.

You’re dying to mobs because they level up with you. You’re fighting high level mobs with no gear 😂 you have to click them and hit “past action” to select the lower level version of the mob until you have good gear. You know this by now tho prob
I put the monobrow back on after finishing the quest, even after he jacked up the price for it. It was just too funny not to. The entire dialogue with the barber for denying the monobrow after the quest is also hilarious. "Oh no, not you again!"
Brighter Shores is great, it has a good base to build upon. They will surely add a lot of content and hopefully make some of the earlier episodes' professions more relevant (cooking food buffs, etc.)
The episodic separation and tiny instances makes it feel a lot like a grinding story single player game more than a large open mmo. That's on its own not a bad thing but had this released as a single player game with some minor changes thr map and world feel more like that
Too many people comparing it to Run Escape, this is an entirely different game, and Andrew made that clear in all releases concerning brighter shores. I love the professions and classes, the progression fuels my dopamine “number go up” addiction. In my opinion it’s a much stronger base game than what was released for devious mud, or the og RuneScape release, and I’m so excited for how much everything will progress, and where this game is headed. I think it’s funny I’m still on a f2p OSRS account but I immediately enjoyed the f2p so much more than OSRS in brighter shores that when I got to the point I had done everything that was prepared for the beginning zones I paid so I could experience everything else that this game has to offer so far. Planning to max but I’ve already got one quarter skill cape and can’t wait for more. I love u hanannandy Ty for all u do. Tl;dr: me and all my homies absolutely loathe brighter shores haters.
@@Hananniee yeah I noticed that during the river bit at 500x speed, cracked me up 😂 I'll still have to give the game a shot sometime, love runescape too much to not give the original creator a chance with this, thanks for the input! Great video by the way, was an extremely interesting and engaging watch
Going to be honest, I really don't like how the entire map is visibly segmented into tiles. RuneScape is segmented into tiles, but it's visually cohesive.
It's fucking crazy that people are making guides for the very first quest that's as linear and simple as it can possibly get. TH-cam meta is so cursed.
Best Brigther Shores content on yt. Really looking forward to the future of the game, feels like they have the formula in the right direction. The combat does need a lot more love though, coz with existing systems, the skill cieling doesn't seem very high honestly. Also needs some speed magic or ability or something. Also I thiink scaling enemy combat levels with the player's level in general is a bad design choice. Makes the leveling up feel way less satisying if you can't bash mobs through it
I couldn't even dedicate the time to finding the right look before i just randomized my character and walked around for like 5 minutes and never played it again. lol
I can tell by watching this that this game is not for me, doesn’t scratch the same itch that osrs scratches for me. The game feels too divided and split into pieces, but im glad you seem to be enjoying it, one can only hope they improve the game based on feedback
my first person i added in game was actually Atemysock sat there and waited till he logged on to tell him he was in the video love you stuff hannanie wish i could send a friend request btw i think you still owe us a bunch of rs3 vids but ill take brighter shores content instead

I love u hanannandy Ty for all u do.
Tl;dr: me and all my homies absolutely loathe brighter shores haters.
am It the only one who has watched a couple of these brighter shores videos and thinks it looks incredibly claustrophobic?
you get used to it very quickly, it feels cozy, the only annoying part is walking large distances
@@Hananniee yeah I noticed that during the river bit at 500x speed, cracked me up 😂
I'll still have to give the game a shot sometime, love runescape too much to not give the original creator a chance with this, thanks for the input!
Great video by the way, was an extremely interesting and engaging watch
wtf.. this video does not have enough views
I LOVE ALL THE HANNANIE ENERGY
I knew you'd put out a brighter shores video and want to woodcut LOL
Glad you're enjoying the game :D
Bank tabs but you gotta walk for 2 minutes straight to reach them
Going to be honest, I really don't like how the entire map is visibly segmented into tiles.
RuneScape is segmented into tiles, but it's visually cohesive.
This isn't RuneScape it's brighter shores... Stop comparing
I'm so happy to see that you're a fellow bone woman Hanannie
I love being a green
Oh damn, had no idea this was available, I might have to stop watching until I get home and can try it myself!
"I thought slumbering was just a fun way to say lumbering"
-Hanannie - Queen of RuneScape - 2024
note to self - save up unidentified gear for the next episode
I watched 1 hour and 48 minutes of the newest Hanannie video... it's a Masterpiece
I was holding off on Brighter Shores for a bit after some vids but you made me download it and I'm gonna give it a go
It's actually such a cool game, enjoying it loads.
I'm glad you are enjoying it. Do you have any intentions of going back to rs3 or the osrs HCIM?
No on the rs3 front, but every few months I hop on the hcim, I have a bunch of random footage of it haha
Oh hey, Im in this. was a giggle doing two handed axe science with you and ritchie. shame it sucked :/
It's fucking crazy that people are making guides for the very first quest that's as linear and simple as it can possibly get. TH-cam meta is so cursed.
Having a blast so far.
Has potential, just have to wait and see :)
omg the length of this! Im going to cook and fold laundry with something good to watch for once
was that a chuckle sandwich reference? i didnt know you watched that hannah!? crossover of the century
Makes the leveling up feel way less satisying if you can't bash mobs through it
Love the shade being thrown at Theoatrix
Nothing like drinking 35-40 beers and watching the new Hanannie vid
Nothing like a 4 night cocaine bender trying to fall asleep watching Hanannie
I couldn't even dedicate the time to finding the right look before i just randomized my character and walked around for like 5 minutes and never played it again. lol
I can tell by watching this that this game is not for me, doesn’t scratch the same itch that osrs scratches for me. The game feels too divided and split into pieces, but im glad you seem to be enjoying it, one can only hope they improve the game based on feedback
I don't really have anything to say, I just hope this video is successful enough that you record more of this game, you seem to really be enjoying it!
35:51 OKSII MENTIONED LETS GO
It reminds me of being a noob in RS back in the day :) it's a nice feeling.
i saw hanna in the woods and i thought of you immediately, it had to be on purpose :D
You haven't answered the question...
Would you rather have unlimited bacon, but no games,,
Or games, unlimited games.., but no games?
my first person i added in game was actually Atemysock sat there and waited till he logged on to tell him he was in the video love you stuff hannanie wish i could send a friend request btw i think you still owe us a bunch of rs3 vids but ill take brighter shores content instead
Wish there were actual drops from monsters other than gear, like stuff you could use to create other useful things
You sound happy all the time. Game couldn't get better review
