They recently confirmed in a TH-cam comment that they are adding light elements to more skills. (Some already have them.) Not all of the skills will emit light though.
Still shilling for a sketchy "successful in real estate" guy that previously scammed cancer patients with health products, had a terrible reputation in Archeage, and has been selling massive amounts of cosmetics and $250 early access. This is the last alpha and it's going to be persistent all the way up until launch and then it will become the test server post launch, it has been stated that Beta 1 & 2 will be considerably closer together when compared to alpha 1 & 2 , very short and close to launch, as the game will be essentially finished at that point, just in it's final polish stage. I can understand why they want to be vigilant with the testing, they want the perfect launch, which as we all know is very important, mess up the launch and it can be devestating.
I love these jokes. I can even understand people not paying attention making them, since they are funny. A2 Sept 2024, B1 Nov. 2025, B2 May 2026, Release Aug. 2026.
I appreciate all of the explainations of the tech side of things. It was really interesting to hear how they are solving, or at least attempting to solve their issues they foresee.
AOC want to use "dynamic gridding", mean, X/Y location can be split in different servers to allocate more players. SC's "dynamic server meshing" on the other hand is different, due to the scales involved. They aim to support large player counts by putting servers on "moving locations", like big space ships. Its a problem a lot more difficult to solve.
I believe you're forgetting Eve Online's one of the grandparents. (Eve more or less pioneered the "carve out territory, build stuff there, and do PvE stuff with PvP overwatch" in MMOs.)
Great job breaking down the tech stream in a meaningful way and not spreading misinformation like asmon did because hes too ignorant to watch the actual dev stream.
He’s overhyped imo. Lately the majority of his ‘content’ is commentary on others actual content. He doesn’t even have fresh ideas. Why bother I guess when you can just use someone else’s.
@@techpappee Seriously, the originality of his content has gone way down recently. He’s been reacting for a long time, and for a while, they were usually pretty decent watches, but lately it’s just been a bunch of reacts to random BS, culture war BS, or streamer drama BS that basically all equate to brain rot. Anyone who watched him in the past knows he’s a remarkably intelligent guy behind the basement dweller facade, so it sucks to see him continuously pump out garbage like that just cause it gets views and it’s easy to get reactions from on stream without even really saying anything meaningful.
@@Roweyy It’s just a result of obtaining such a large audience. He rushes through a lot of stuff that he *could* be using for content, because people shove so much stuff in his face. There’s no way to see it all, and for whatever reason, a lot of people like upvoting the kind of BS react video fodder I mentioned before in his Reddit where he finds stuff to react to every day, so that’s the stuff he ends up picking to make content with. I think he either saw the original video (and the runtime) and decided to react to a 20 minute narc video instead, or he just straight up didn’t have the time or energy to care about looking up the real video after seeing the narc one pop up. Brain dead chatters and Redditors would rather see him react to why men are lonely for the 50th time, or hear him say the same shit everyone else does in response to another semi-famous person no one should really care about “maybe” being a pedo. It’s either that, or playing shitty P2W games like 85% of the time.
Same for me since SWG went down in 2011 I have just been disappointed time and time again. So many devs think combat and pvp make a mmo but with Ashes they want so much more and I am excited to be able to life main and do nothing but trading and crafting and maybe be a support healer sub or something. I enjoy taking a back seat and getting to watch others make big break throughs!
The thing people need to remember (and this is true for most games), is end game is called end game for a reason. it comes at the end of the game. People forget about the game itself. The leveling and exploring and everything that comes with it. Because so many people have played MMOs, we know the grind and we know the Raids, and everyone just wants to get to the Raids as quickly as possible ignoring the game. This is exacerbated by YT and Twitch streamers who game as a job. They need to get to the end as fast as possible for content, and all of that skews peoples perception of games. Dont look at a game by seeing if its "everything" you want, but does it have "something" you want. I look at this and just want some fun moment to moment gameplay, fun progression and fun skills. idc if this is the WoW killer, or brings back that feeling of 2008 MMOs or what the end game is. but i digress.
Actual reasonable take, admits to having trust issues, still wants the best for the game. It seems this is a near impossible take for most people who have been burned by past games, you will deserve the great game we're going to get 🙏
Just to correct you, microservices were not created by them, its a software engineering pattern being used for more than a decade. Very simplified, these are services with very specific functions. My entire companies' stack is composed of microservices

That intrepidnet system is amazing. My hope is that not only does it work seamlessly for Ashes but that they make a lot of money selling the system to other companies so we can get more huge MMOs like this.
I didn't notice until watching your review, but Steven has 3x the health of everyone else and about 2x the mana lol. Makes sense as if he just died over and over it wouldn't have been very interesting, but something to note.
Steven had this advantage so he can commentate and do all the talking at the same time, and not dying, cause otherwise we would watch the death loading screen all the time, and that wasnt the purpose of the stream. I also think he was 10-15 levels higher than the others and had better armor set.
Monthly Showcases are not representatives of Actual Gameplay. He is the show host or in some cases a live tester, they are trying to get feedback on other aspects, Health, CDR, Mana, Stamina are not the focus of that Showcase. Time To Kill should be accounted for other people and not Steven based on what you have stated.
The first Ashes of Creation coverage was how I found your channel. It's so strange to watch the evolution of its development in real time, basically only from your channel. Whether or not the game turns out to be a success, your coverage of it has been extremely informative and honest.
The last update on the Tech implementation of the Server Meshing and Multithreading the Unreal Engine Replication Tech BLEW MY MIND. Alpha 2 coming this Quarter is going to be INCREDIBLE if they pull this off they way they want to.

I love the technical achievements they have made but man it looks like a more polished Elder Scrolls Online. For me really deflates the excitement balloon. Its cool to see progress and I love what Steven did by quitting on playing the MMOs out there and starting his own company and actually achieving his goals after he had had enough from poorly performing MMOs. I tried to do this and failed (you just have to have a metric crap ton of money AND really good coders that work well together). Personally I hope it plays like the elder scrolls online. ESO pvp is the most fun I have ever had in a game, zenimax give it no attention though and put all their effort into pve. Ashes is more pvp focused so it would be amazing imo if they have a similar combat system.

This be my take on the game. It's going to be released in 4-5 years, and when it does, it's gonna be mid at best and if it's better then what i expect, it's still gonna be DOA because it's WAY too late.

I am absolutely blown away by the network/netcode. This innovation and ambition has solidified the success of this game. Why on earth would they create something so complex if it would technically work with the typical netcode. The passion for this game is truly obvious. This will be the MMO of the decade
i think people who are patient and realistic about this game will be pleasantly surprised with the final product anyone who is desperate for "their main game" to fill the void in their lives will likely be very disappointed
Ahh, like how people have been patient with Star Citizen? And why you gotta throw in the "desperate" part? People just want a good MMO to play, and being patient does not equal to good.
While I do appreciate the things that they show us and are trying to be transparent, I think they are focusing on things that don't really matter to most people. Large scale pvp battles are not necessarily bad but they tend to become boring overtime, and the fact that its primarily a tab target MMORPG makes it even less exciting.
ahh my main game to fill the void rn is albion, due to my long caree in there im now in a guild of ABSOLUTE BANGERS, with a nice system where i get paid (in ingame money ofc) after guild events. Every thing we do, we get lootsplits, and if you dont die too much you even make plus.

Ive been dying for a PoE level of complexity for character builds/gear and it looks like Ashes might be 11/10 dude.
All of the server technology from the June update looks fucking INCREDIBLE. There has never been an MMORPG that has been able to have these massive 100-person battles with insane visuals. So exciting
Unreal Engine 6 will not be released until April 2030. AOC will more than likely launch within the next 2+ years (after Alpha 2, and the two betas). I'm sure they are planning to upgrade to UE 6 after launch if it is feasable.
No, not likely. Enormous amounts of back end seems to be changed on intrepid's end. It would not be worth the effort put into porting all those changes over to a UE6 release.
@@WasabithePom "AOC will more than likely launch within the next 2+ years" optimism leads to bigger dissapointments. This game is very, very far from being ready. The kind of far that won't be solved in two years.
@@grabeck666 I agree that the "next 2 years" is the optimistic forecast, but the logic behind this opinion is that in those 2 years the speed of development and the solutions of problems will be faster than before. Having more people working and solving "smaller" problems than before we expect WAY faster development than until now. So yeah winter of 2026 is a nice guess. Even if that isnt possible, 2027 or 2028 is kinda dead end. (2027 will be 10 years since kickstart which is a normal time moment for an mmo like that to be ready and released)

It looks like you're oblivious to whats been going on in the gaming industry for the past couple of years. People are cynical because the industry has made them that way, with half a decade worth of scams from singleplayer games to mmos. To this date there still hasn't been another major succesful release that people have been happy about, and until that happens you're gone see alot more of that "cynicism" as you put it. which isn't cynical, to correct you, it's frustration.

I'm just biased because I like Steven's ideas and am willing to take a chance. I haven't bought in yet but I will pay $125-150 or so if I can get some fun out it.
The back-end team in Intrepid is incredible, to say the least. If they get this game right, we might finally have a new MMORPG king and Intrepid might become what Blizzard once was.
As someone that worked on MMO servers, we basically had the same setup that AoC is going with, and that was 5-10 years ago. I think they'll find the same thing we ran into in the end: just because your servers can handle a ton of players in one small area, most of your player clients can't, and most of the effort is wasted.
@@rizzoid I believe they said they're going to reduce the fidelity of graphics in high-pop PvP battles by using techniques like instancing to cheaply render hundreds of players as default models, having a maximum amount of active particles at any given time, etc. in order to make these battles playable on a minimum spec PC.
Vanguard Saga of Heroes did this kind of server meshing. The tech hadn't caught up to what they wanted to do though, and it had problems. But they did do the grid mesh. They probably had the normal replication processes though. I'm also happy to see that Active Directory has finally found the game world.
on the bright side though, it seems like they have been using the dev time to build pretty fundamental tech backend systems that will prevent them from having a bunch of technical debt later on they have to work through
I'm enjoying the dream still. When this releases, it might deliver and all is good. But it could fail and then there isn't anything to look forward to anymore.
Nice to see devs use some modern technology in smart ways on their backend. What with containerization and splitting applications into micro services having been a thing for awhile now, it's cool to see them use the same ideas here for their game systems. We've had the technology, good on them for using it.
Thinking the game will never launch is an unjustified thought from what we seeing the last years. Unless you know or you saw something more than us and you have this opinion
Mr. LazyPeon I must credit you with getting me into Ashes of Creation prior to Alpha 1...I ended up testing in Alpha 1 and will get to test next in Alpha 2 (if not sooner in some of the spot testing). Looking forward to TESTING in Alpha 2 and beyond to help make this game awesome for as many as possible.
Guarantee this game will blow up for a few months and then be dead just as quick. Nothing about this game screams super unique with its generic art style and world, and nothing seems very ground breaking to the genre
I’m kinda scared of this too. It seems like a good chance on the surface, but it has to somehow create a unique identity. It all comes down to gameplay in the end
Exciting times when MMORPGs are working towards Server population solutions! I'm a big fan of Guild Wars 2 WvW but back then the servers would slow down during massive 3 way fights. I am curious how well AoC server meshing works when pushed to Alpha 2 servers, hopefully it will be soon and not be delayed. Last year when Star Citizen announced and demo'ed their working "Server Meshing", it also worked but once it was being tested with players they had to make numerous of updates to unforeseen gameplay issues. It's to be expected though considering Server Meshing is in its infant state.
Even worse, its tab target combat system, Fortnite graphics, undefined classes, etc. It will be a game for old people like Steven, but not for today's generation of players.
In 2nd month we will have still servers without Metropolis and players wont have seen a huge portion of the game. How can you say that they will quit. They will buy it for that reason. Do you even know what this game offers, whats the purpose and the depth that has or you just saw a video of some gameplay and you came to that conclusion?
Dude I really really hope that this game will take off in the future. We desperately need something more to fill the mmo space. Even though I don't see myself playing this game, I still want to see it be successful.
i think originally flying mounts were for mayors of towns and also i think guild leaders who own 1 of a few castles? so they are designed to be very rare... for better or worse
For people who may be confused in the comments, the "persistent" part of the "Persistent Alpha" refers solely to the Alpha phase. It's not early access by any means. It's just that they will have a few months where wipe will (should) not happen, until Beta arrives or Alpha closes down.
So, some random person posts daily quests, then a big guild will run around and kill people who aren't in a big group (this always happens and will happen here to). I really don't understand how this is meant to "save mmos" ? Its just basic mmo stuff covered with fancy bs which doesn't really add anything lol. Its daily quests into group ganking.
I am pumped for Alpha two. I bought into Ashes before Alpha one and even as unpolished as Alpha one was, it was still a lot of fun. This game is going to be amazing.
This game is incredible on paper, in reality though, by the time it releases it'll already be outdated. I mean just look at the latest gameplay, and we're still what, 3 or 4 years away from a release, if even that ? And let's hope that the gameplay loop and content is plentiful and engaging at release, because if not, we might be in for another Bless Online.
It's dead on arrival unless it's F2P, maybe devs realize that. Who do they believe are following these ongoing years in progress games other than a handful of people.

Great summary as always. Only thing I would correct is Alpha 2 will not be feature complete at the start. Many systems will not be in place and even some of the archetypes will not be in at the start but they will be added in through patches during its persistent run. The Betas will be the thing that's close to a steam early access

@@iabaca That’s not always true. To this day no mmo has come out that was as feature rich as UO was in the early years. It feels like you've played one or two MMOs and decided that their version of "fireball" (an absolutely run-of-the-mill, generic spell name) was the only version that existed. It's just a name for a spell, mate. What matters is just how it feels when we play, not what name it has. It could be named "Fire Spell #33" and it still wouldn't matter.
I have an idea for big fights. So the physical chars who need to get close have a buff, this buff protects them from enemy spells, if more than 2 spells are hitting them the damage is mitigated. So they can get into the aoe without dying instantly and fight, and the enemy has to spread their damage. With this mecanic, some spell casters can specialize on a type of buff that gives them penetration for this kind of protection, so they can assasinate individual chars from a distance but with longer cooldowns and they get revealed to the enemy.
All that nonsense about server efficiencies and there's still massive lag when the dragon hits the ground. Bravo Steven, you've reinvented gaming infrastructure.

Same. People think that because it takes ages to come out it's gonna be great. It promised A LOT and I can bet you it wont deliver even half the things they said it would. Looks pretty generic so far, they're just trying to implement ALL the cool systems out there, and because it takes a decade to finish this game people believe they will actually do it. Watch Alpha 2 getting released with 1/4 of the systems promised, and not even those working properly, and them having some kind of "sorry guys we're just a very small team! The MILLIONS of dollars you donated werent enough sadly, we promise this game will get better and better". I hope I'm proven wrong in the future, I really do. But there's nothing promising about this, nothing that makes you immersed into the world, I havent heard anything about immersion and story, a BIG factor in all succesful mmos (isnt FF14 the most popular mmo out there? FIGHT !

I appreciate all of the explainations of the tech side of things. It was really interesting to hear how they are solving, or at least attempting to solve their issues they foresee.
Hopefully Star Citizen and AOC can solve dynamic gridding. It will most likely change the gaming landscape in terms of massive multiplayer.

I'm hoping it turns out to be everything we want, but I'm not holding my breath.
Been burned too many times to remain optimistic.
Should have a pretty good idea within 3 months of the true potential.....unless you have spot testing access then it should be within 2

As someone that worked on MMO servers, we basically had the same setup that AoC is going with, and that was 5-10 years ago. I think they'll find the same thing we ran into in the end: just because your servers can handle a ton of players in one small area, most of your player clients can't, and most of the effort is wasted.
Not really, clients 10 years ago is exponentially weaker than clients used today. They simulated it and it worked.

Vanguard Saga of Heroes did this kind of server meshing. The tech hadn't caught up to what they wanted to do though, and it had problems. But they did do the grid mesh. Im so hyped for Ashes and Star Citizen because of the server meshing tech. Its more immersiv and remembers me of my old wow times, where literally hunderts of ppl roame the cities of Orgrimmar and Stormwind
This game is never launching is it?
I'm so excited for this game, I have hope in the people making it since it seems they love MMOs more then me.
Fear this game will be utterly out of date by the time it releases
I want to think that but then you look at the 20+ year old MMOs still on top
Its combat system is tab target, that says it all hahaha
What just like WOW? fuckin MMORPG can't go out of date what are you on about
@@trojancs16 like wow and ff14 the two most popular MMOs....
Out of date compared to what?
as a networking nerd and mmo player, the June update is ironically the one that makes me want to play this game more than any other update lol
Alpha2 wont be feature complete , it will have a lot of the systems at the start but not all and some might not be finished or even in the basic version of them however by the end of the alpha2 it will be feature complete
will 100% be playing this when it drops
4:52 Fireball is fucking horrible. In what game has fireball been 3 spammable projectiles? Horrible.
Archeage, and it was fucking dope.
@@Nevario1 Haven't played it.
In almost every single MMO Fireball is one big hard hitting spell that needs to be charged. Pyroblast too.
@@CasabianN-xr5sc This is genuinely a big enough problem for you to mention? Lmao.
Agree, to me all magic effects looks to much flashy
@@CasabianN-xr5sc "in almost every single MMO". Calm your tits, WoW boi.
A fireball or firebolt all have variations across MMOs, from FFXIV to Elder Scrolls to ArcheAge to you name it. AoC has went with a model closer to ArcheAge's - which is a small, spammable firebolt - and it worked pretty great as mages had other spells.
I seriously can’t wait to get hands on with this. I am super optimistic for Alpha 2. ❤️
This just looks like a bad version of wow now
I have an idea for big fights.
😂 the folks still in 2010
if you would have watched the video you would know the system was not in place yet at that time.
Someone didn't watch and listen to the whole video....
I hope you're being ironically obtuse
Dude one thing you have to understand this is still the alpha it not even finish lol!
But if you don’t wanna play I would just wait for launch when it fully developed
What I liked about the group combat video is that it was Played AND Recorded in 4k. No lag or glitching. Looks like UE5 in true glory. LOL
Ive sadly lost hope for AOC a long time ago :(
Why
Man if these guys keep it up this could become the next #1 MMO
i really dont understand this games hype :D just another unreal 5 game with no unique feeling but you know better
And it's basically 80% story and 20% gameplay, but it does an amazing job at making you feel part of the world).
@@spookyclaws5350 %100 agree. or just look at the wow. when you play it you know that you are in world of warcraft.
This game looks like im playing a demo of a demo game for unreal.
game bussiness has 3 major areas:
finding money + finding talent with money + managing the talent properly
i think they are having issues at number 2 and 3 :D
Thanks for the update!
It's becoming more and more niche. I have lost all interest..
23:01 try using a simple route preduction software to determine wheter an area collapse due to high player approaching is imminent. It could be another service as the others. It may allert the servers of several layers, and once all the layers are correct (100 players or more in the same square), then the sarvice takes the situation on his hands, pulls a cascade of countermeasures to redirect the overwhelming demand on process and hardware that can deal with that problem, untill all the layers starting by the allert status start going off being this player spreading or being defeated and getting out from the frame, then that service would start giving back to the original disposal to handle the situation as it was describe in the video. To design a single hardware specially focused on handling such high demand might be possible if they manage to find how to transform and move the high demanding of processing.
this shit never coming out
Yeah, what you said
5:47 that was some harry potter shit. loved it.
Has it really been three years since Alpha 1???!!! Damn that's wild!
this game genuinely looks like dogshit
Cool, dont play then.
