    🟨 Only a few tunnels of different sizes have been selected. In the world there are many more.
    Have you ever gone through any of them? Tell me in the comments👇👇

      That’s why there was a speed of the camera indication. So if you travel at 2000+ km/h and the tunnel ends in 20-30 seconds…then it’s big.

  • @metalfusionf
    @metalfusionf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    I think at least in the Päijänne water tunnel the water is not in a pipe but the whole tunnel is flooded. It also doesn't require pumping because of natural height difference.

    • @filanfyretracker
      @filanfyretracker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the pipe was just to represent things visually, Almost all aqueduct tunnels are fully filled. I think NYC ones are also unpowered during normal operation, places where they have gone over hills they use some kind of suction pump. that is once the water is flowing full stream the water going down the other side pulls all the rest along.

    Sydney, Australia has some pretty big tunnels. For example the NorthConnex tunnel, at 9km long. A massive tunnel project, called WestConnex, is currently being built and is due for completion next year (2023). There are three stages involved: the M4 tunnel (5.5km, opened 2019); M4-M5 link tunnel (7.5km, open 2023); and the M8 tunnel (9km, opened 2020), and they are all connected, forming one continuous long tunnel between Haberfield and Kingsgrove, which will be approximately 22km long. Stage 1 of the new M6 motorway (which is aimed at connecting Southern Sydney and suburbs beyond with the CBD and northern suburbs) is currently under construction, and will be around 4km long, and will connect up to the third section of the WestConnex tunnel at kingsgrove, called the M8. And if stage 2, 3 and potentially 4 of the m6 project get approved, this tunnel will be extended to Sydney’s south, providing many more kilometres of continuous tunnel. So in summary, Sydney is up there when it come to tunnels.

    Didn't know Päijänne water tunnel is second longest tunnel in the world. It was built in the 70s during great unemployment crisis. Building it was impressive feat, it was built in the depth of 30 to 100 meters, so it can also work as reservoir during the war, it's so deep enemies can't get to it. It transports water to 1 million people.

    Personally if I had to choose between the Boston and New York subway systems I'd choose New York. The stations are more aesthetically pleasing to look at. Boston's stations... Give me the feeling of "Eh, whaaatevah!" vibe. Also the vibe of "Not my circus, not my monkeys." when it comes to upkeep. New York's subway lines overall look much cleaner. Of course that was 32 years ago when I last rode either. Time tells all.
