Thanks for the video and I ordered mine in February 2024 and received it about a week ago (November 2024). I just got it working about a half hour ago so your ideas on the RTL/SDR V4 are right up my alley. 73! Have a great day!
This is nice, i rooted my Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and flashed Kali nethunter to it. If the RP4 Pro had similar functionality as a Flipper Zero, it would be the perfect device for pocket adventures.
Fantastic video. I made the exact same modifications, except for those related to the RTL-SDR (including the same screen protector). I also own a DevTerm and a GameShell. The only thing that bothers me about these devices is that the community-provided distributions are not monitored, so, out of paranoia, I end up recompiling them myself.
Does it run a custom kernel? I don't want another pocket chip situation where after a while it turns into a paperweight because you can't use a mainline kernel on it. This kind of device should last decades.
I'm don't any kind of expert, but he said you need their distribution due to drivers for some stuff like the screen, which would imply they aren't in the kernel already. I'm not sure how hard it is to install drivers on Linux if the distro doesn't make it easy for me, but I imagine the Pi 4 will be supported for some time.
It is also interesting why you would need a new kernel on such a device like a pocket chip? Of course I can imagine, but just genuinely interested in your particular application
@@zarkonesmall Security and features. Ordered one of these in December 2023. It is September 18th 2024 as I write this. I still have not received it. Communication with company assures me "It's in the next batch to go out" So....Just know you are probably looking at 10months+ of turn around time to get one of these if you order it.
If only it was easy to get your hands on one of these things. I’ve moved on from this device because of the wait time. Got myself a GPD mini running Linux and I love it .
Personally bro, im watching this video on a gpd pocket 2 and its kinda alot better imo.......... i have 2 gpd pocket 2's because i knew that it would eventually stop being produced and im glad i bought 2 of them. mini computers are so so so nice. iread on mine like it is a kindle by flipping the screen into portrait mode and holding it in a vertical manner using my thumb to hit the space bar flipping the page. it is the coolest e reader ive ever seen and its a full windows 11 pc once i flip around the orientation of the screen and fold it into its 90 degree angle
my use would be as a portable network debugger, mostly. i suppose some day will also make a usb board with 2x usb-c and 1x sd card slot. since there's so much space i'd definitely squeeze in some esp board or a milk-v duo as low power standby server. the form factor is good for just putting a magnetic tape on the back and slapping it on a wall and such. the battery run time is kinda low though :/
hey man you see that little metal paddle on the bottom of those trackballs? Its a tactile switch paddle, my theory is that the reason these trackballs dont work as well as they should is because they're supposed to have a tactile button underneath them, which would minimize the amount of travel that the trackball has hwen you rest your thumb on it to roll it. Having that extra rigidity underneath the trackball not only would have minimized the ball travel but also would have provided a nice third mouse button to use as was common place on the original blackberry. They were never exactly perfect but admittedly I have to say I remember them being somewhat better myself even on my htc g1.
If you're interested in one of these, be prepared for a wait. I got mine a few months ago, but it was nine months **after** I ordered and they charged me card.
I’ve made sure the heat transfer blob connects the rtl-sdr to the aluminium frame, so yes it heats it up a bit, but not to any troublesome amount. And it only heats up when an application is using it.
I think it’s you who are mistaken. QI is wireless charging. PD can switch to a range of different voltages, look on the back of any PD charger or powerbank and you can see the voltages and amps it supports. You’re thinking of Quick Charge which is 5 volt.

beautiful! love this device since it was released but still hesitate to order.. :D i want to ask if you can switch off that sdr module or you now have to use device with that antenna on the side to prevent burning sdr module?

The shot in the video is from before to demonstrate how difficult it is - especially since there isn’t a good description of how it’s supposed to be done.
Depends on what I'm trying to listen to. I've got a little 433 MHz antenna for using rtl_433. I use a telescopic whip for other VHF/UHF frequencies. For HF I'm using a long wire strung up with a telescopic fiber glass pole of about 10 meters length.

PD is always 5V and regulates only the current up to 3A, you mean it doesn't support QC with the tension step up to the 20V, perhaps?
This is not the case, USBC PD is able to supply up to 48v as per the specification. The 240w charging that is possible would require 48amps at 5v
