I love this build! I have a boat almost exactly like this that I haven’t touched yet. I’ve been waiting for something more practical to build, and here it is! Thanks Mike!
Get to it!
im glad i found the channel, ive been doing the ame thing in mo. for past 10 yrs
Mike! Stepping up the video production game! Nice! I love it!
Really like build form mild to wild great work really like to c tiny boat setup for saltwater inshore fishing
I really like watching! This is awesome I really want a boat for myself but got to save money to do that
I actually have this exact same boat. Thanks for your awesome videos so now I have great ideas of how to make this a truly functional boat
Can you do a video discussing how to plan your build so it balances properly and isn't too front or rear heavy
I live in northwest Michigan and this little boat is a monster would work awesome on the thousands of small lakes and would work well on the motor sections of our rivers in fall for Salmon..
This gives me a itch to build something! Looking good!
Do it!
About time
Try oven cleaner then wrap Saran Wrap on top of it for a few hours to keep the oven cleaner from drying as quick. Also full strength oven cleaner thank me later
Great work, love the detail builds
I’d love it!!! Rad Mike!! Thank you for the videos
thank you for your video it cleared a lot of doubts.
Epic my friend … love your videos!!!
I'm trying to put a bow plate that can handle both the troling motor and anchor winch and then a small casting deck forward with a chair on a pole. All this while keeping the weight evenly distributed so I can hit plane fast. And i want to keep overall center of gravity low. I operate my little 14' starcraft on rivers and lake Erie so that's important. I think you've pointed me in the right direction. Foam is absolutely not an option.
A large washer or something round with a hole in the center for the marker along those curves will give you a carbon copy of the shape.
Great Job lads 🙂I will look forward to seeing the rest being done great work🙂👍🇨🇮
A saying I have heard about professional wood workers, they are good at making jigs. A simple straight edge setup would give perfectly straight lines when routing out the recess for the lids.
Find the right size washer, put it flat on the deck against the side you are tracing, put your marker in the in the center hole of the washer and roll it against the side. Makes a perfect copy of the side.
Genious
@@TinyBoatNation not my idea. I came across it in a car audio video.
Check into divynicell
Its a laminated corrugated foam that is light weight bendable and readily accepts marine resin. Used for flats boat decking
Good work
Thanks
That is going to be one gorgeous little boat. I hope to be able to build, or buy, a similar boat one day. Dreams are what keep us going. God bless and greatest success.
I have an older glass bass boat I want to completely re-do similarly for electric only lakes. I am trying to figure how to build the foundation to attach the frame kit and build from there...
If you line up all the visible screws so the X pattern in head are all straight up and down, it looks much nicer. Easy thing to do to make the final finish more pro and less DIY.
It's free to do and is so satisfying! 😂
OCD is not your friend.
@@TinyBoatNation Looks less messy!
Awesome video Mike 🔥🔥
Appreciate it!!
What did youse for paint on the black vertical pieces after the epoxy?
Adding foam doesn't add to the boats floatation only if the boat takes on water
Looks nice ! For me I’m sure I will never use wood again on any Jon boat builds. I buy my aluminum from a metal recycle place damaged sheets
Right on
🎉
is there any ca boat shop will do a aluminum coversion on a 14 ft valco boat from the ground up?
Hey TBN, I’ve watched several of your videos and learned a ton. I’ve got a Tracker 190 and I want to redo the front deck. It has two compartments behind the front fishing seat, and I want to turn that into one center rod locker with the 90 degree bend in the lid aft. Not sure if this is the place to ask, however thanks for your time!
No prob! Just emailed us support@tbnation.net or call us at one of the numbers listed in the description of this video and we can get you started!
I don’t see the link
I've got a boat that is just like the one you are building except its not built yet
Wish it was mine
How do o enter
Don't know if anybody has mentioned this. But plywood is lighter than aluminum sheeting in some cases. Check it out.
We talk about it later in the series
Question what size angle aluminum and what type plywood and size?
Nice job
Thanks!
Mike, what is the program you used to make the graphics in the beginning. I’ve been looking for one.
Can you link the next episode?
It’s part of a playlist. The link should be in the end of the video.
How do you enter the giveaway
Do you use screws or 1/16 rivets to anchor the wood
1 1/2 inch rivets
Whoooa Mike I need this build for my boat. I think I have the same one. How can I hire you to do mine. Let's chat
Contact our shop in IL. Contact information is in the description of this video.
In watching it seems like the hose for water draining got sealed inside the expanding foam, is this true or is the hose still above the foam? If the hose is inside the foam how does it drain as I thought closed Cell foam does not allow water to flow through it?
It was there for a different type of mud, but we ended up filling the entire thing with foam. We sealed the deck off so that water can’t get in there. It’s in another video within the series.
What are the hoses for in the sub frame?
For drainage
Are you using self tap screws for the wood to aluminum connection?
I used rivets, but you can use self tappers. You just have to use a lot.
@@TinyBoatNation i appreciate it! Just framed sub floor about to start building up! Only in aluminum wasn’t so expensive 😂
Where in Illinois can you buy those hatches
Yes, either directly on tbnation.net or we have a shop in Pekin. The address is in the description of the video.
What type of container did you use in the dry hatches? Or were they framed out and walled off with the cosmetic wood?
I used a tough tote
Quick question I Want to put my Front seat over the battery box like you did. How can I Get a Hatch with the hole in it for the swivel chair?
Just use a hole saw and reinforce the underside. Most people drop them in that way
The only buoyancy the foam needs to support in case of sinking is (the weight of) the negative buoyancy, which is broadly everything made of metal (including the outboard motor) and batteries. You can exclude the weight of water from livewell, gas, anything made of wood, and the weight of people with their own flotation devices.
The 1,000 lb of displacing buoyancy you installed as foam on this boat makes the boat far unsinkable.
Thank you for breaking it down. I believe very much so that this, but would be terribly hard to sink
@@TinyBoatNation Does adding the foam increase the weight capacity or does it only add protection from sinking due to capsizing/other damage?
Question: With marine grade ply would you need to do a filler coat before putting down turf or can you just apply the turf straight to marine plywood
What's the plan for the space in the front of the bow? Is it just staying hollow without foam?
Yes.
why do you not use any King Start board? is it too costly??
Too heavy
how do you enter the giveaway I'm down here in ft myers and we got hit very hard from hurricane ian all my stuff is damaged boat ect all my tools destroyed trying to get a new setup.
It’s in the description of this video
What software are you using for the virtual layout? Been trying to find something so I can show better details in my layers.
Photoshop
What rivets are you using to attach the top framing aluminum angle to the hull ?
Countersink rivets from our website
What kind of resin do you use to coat the wood?
Two-part Marine Apoxy
What do you think of using pvc sheets instead of wood
Not a good idea. I think it’s actually worse
@@TinyBoatNation why is that
Where I can buy this black locker flap?
What part of the video?
How do I enter to win the pontoon bass boat? I didn't see a link to use in the description.
I fixed the description and put the link in it.
@@TinyBoatNation I got entered! Thanks man I appreciate it.
How long is that boat?
13.5ft
I entered in the giveaway hope I win :)
Me too!
Engineering and welding degrees not included.
It’s not that complicated
@@TinyBoatNation ok
I guess what I’m trying to find isn’t simple but just quick as in an hour or two
10:20 the way you attempted to scribe that edge is pathetic.
Idk where you get your aluminum from but that aluminum should be Like 100-200 a sheet
