@PCBuilderChannel Thank you. I have a question about my PC. Every once in a while it restarts by itself overnight. Any idea why? Or what I can do to stop it?
With higher performance GPUs it gives a decent performance boost for around $80. Especially since $80 probably won't get you up to the next GPU it makes sense with a higher GPU pairing than the 7600. I also expect the performance on the 9600X will continue where the 7600 is probably at its max. But 7600 is a great choice to get into AM5 so both are good choices depending on your build needs
@@PCBuilderChannel At $367 on Amazon for a 7800x3D that is $88 more than the 9600x suggested price of $279. The 9600x has not fared well in benchmarks today.
Thanks for the video Jason. Seeing all the temps for the 9600x and the 9700x makes me happy. Glad you liked it! IMO the 9700X is a flop at $359, despite the lower temps. The 9600X gets most of that performance for a lot less, and then there's the 7800X3D if you want to spend even more. But I'm still waiting for more data points and we'll see more reviews come out in the 24 hours. And I'm betting like the 7000 series, we'll see some serious price drops inside the first 30 days.
@PCBuilderChannel Yeah I understand where you're coming from. Maybe it will be under $300 sometime when I make the switch to AM5 but we'll have to wait and see and who knows the 7800x3d still might be cheaper then too.
From what I have seen from reviews we need to wait for proper bios updates to fix many issues with this CPU. The only thing it has going for it is power efficiency. The new 9000 series is not any better than the 7000 series.
We used the MSI beta bios for the B650 Tomahawk, not the AMD validated reviewer bios (it is only available for the top X670E board from each AIB, and those super expensive boards aren't valid for a best value build guide). Our 9600X ran super solid, including RAM compatibility. I don't want to speculate as to a cause for the issues others experienced, but early adopter bugs like RAM compatibility are always a thing (12th Gen and Ryzen 7000 on B650 were way worse, IMO). I'm sure they'll get the issues ironed out in a month or so.
Awesome Video! It summarizes the findings from my three days of deep-diving research into the new options, which is much appreciated and reassuring! RAM Question: Is there a downside to taking a 6400/30 1.35V RAM over a 6000/30 1.35V RAM kit when using the Ryzen 5 9600X CPU? I've seen several people stating that anything above 6000 can cause booting issues but not sure exactly how accurate that information is. Your help is amazingly appreciated :)
How good would this build work for gaming & photo editing 50:50 with RX7800XT. I'd be coming from i7 9700k with 1060 6GB. I'm figuring I'd see some good uplift in performance? thanks
Ryzen 5 9600x is the same as 7600x same with 9700x and 7700x. Gaming performance is better for the ryzen 7. And yes, the 7800x3d remains as the best gaming CPU.
Thank you once again for your work! I did find that depending on the board, it is preferable to use a EXPO rated ram kit. I know theoretically it shouldn’t matter, but how optimized the BIOS is does matter. Unless I did something wrong. I have the MSI mpg b650 edge. Once I changed the memory kit to a expo rated kit, I had no more issues, nor did I need manual tuning.
I own 4 of the standard Aorus elite ax b650 and 4 x670 versions as they were the best bang for the buck with 8 layer pcb, vrm temps a degree or two of the high end boards and 5.0 for 1 m2 slot. This white version you are paying a bit for the white version. Solid boards, update bios , enable expo and turn on memory context restore to speed up boot up. Yep like PCBC said below audio isn’t anything great and I knew that before buying. Most of my builds I already had sound cards or I use hdmi out to a receiver. So if you use headphones it will work but not as good as others in the same price class.
Great board if you are looking for an all white mobo. Also IMO Gigabyte 600 series boards have tended to be the most stable with the fastest boot times, but there's been so many bios changes that I can't say that definitively. Doesn't come with improved audio (same as the Aorus Elite AX) which is a miss IMO but if you don't need the improved audio (if you are using a digital audio device) then great value.
Thanks!!! I suspect that folks like Buildzoid will get another 10% out of it with a lot of experimentation with high end GPUs at 1080p. We'll have to wait and see.
Hi pls I just need some help finalising my build I’m thinking of ryzen 5 7600 with rtx 4070ti super but I’m also wondering if it’s worth upgrading ryzen 7700 and if it’ll be better performance and better in general my pcs for gaming like Fortnite, but also triple AAA games at 1440p high settings as well
Great job on the coverage! Does the 9600X manage the RTX 4090’s performance at 1440p,? Considering that I play a lot of single-player games and occasionally dive into Apex, I’m contemplating an AM5 upgrade and your mention of the 4090 being the maximum made me curious if the GPU would be fully utilized with that CPU+GPU combo. I’d like to avoid needing a CPU upgrade so soon in the future which is why i plan on holding onto that cpu for years

Hi Jason! Just a follow up question on my upgrade build. I have a R5 3600 + RX 580 8gb + B450m Steel Legend. I'm going to upgrade to a 5700x3d and still use this mobo. I can't find a 6700XT on my location which you recommended. Will a RX 6600 or RX 6600XT be fine? Or is there an RTX GPU you can recommend? Thanks!
Since you are sticking with your motherboard and it is PCIE Gen 3, we just want to avoid GPUs that are PCIE Gen4 x8 - in other words the ones where AMD and NVIDIA have not used the full x16 connector. So I'd avoid the 7600 XT, for instance, though the 6600 or 6650 XT are not fast enough for this to be an issue. Alternatively you could spend $90 on a new B550 motherboard and have PCIE Gen 4, which might be a good idea. Hope that helps.
You can of course, but I thought they were pretty good. The test of time is a bit more important. Basically do the bearings wear out too fast in the cheaper fans and cause more noise, but the case just came out so it is hard to say. IMO run the fans it came with to start out and decide if you want to replace them.
If you don't need to run the fans over 75% rpm speed they should be fine. I'd only change for aesthetic reasons beyond that (different argb, quieter fans or faster fans if you are in a very hot environment or something). As Jason stated the bearings are probably definitely cheap so if you are planning to put a lot of pressure on them maybe consider upgrade but it's not necessary most of the time.
Hi Jason, my local PC store only has G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 48GB (2 x 24GB) DDR5 7200MHz CL36 RAM, will that work? Size 48GB & XMP only, very strange combination.
Does AMD always follow up with a "x3d" variant of their chips? My last build was based around an Intel 6700k back in 2018 and I am starting to think about a new build with AMD, but I'm not in any hurry. I haven't paid any attention to AMD since I swapped to Intel with the I5-2500K back around 2011 :) and even though I built my 2018 rig myself I feel like a beginner again. Love this channel, it's been a huge help getting caught up with all the latest info.
Does it make sense to buy a high tier motherboard for 7800xt and 9600x? I want to replace this CPU and graphics card in the future after a few years. Like x870
@@PCBuilderChannel For example, I'm thinking of buying asrock x870 pro rs. 5 10 years to take me away. Upgrading the CPU and GPU after a few years. What would be your suggestion for a solid motherboard?
Our channel really isn't set up for that kind of testing. But Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed are doing great work around that so I definitely recommend checking them out.
Good motherboard if you don't need the upgraded audio (if you are using a digital audio device vs analog). Otherwise other options in its price class are better.
We cover this in detail in our best PSU 2024 buying guide video. It has to do with transient power spikes with GPUs and CPUs, and the fact that I do not yet fully trust the PCIE 5.0 PSU standard PSUs to keep those transients in line. I'd rather have folks spend an extra $10 to $20 on their PSU and not experience any issues. Hope this helps!
@@PCBuilderChannel Yes it helps very much, Thank You. I was just working from old inefficient inverters that were about %80 efficient so we would use about 1.2 to cover the inefficacies. Didn't really look at transient spikes just power delivered.
My personal gaming/streaming rig is a 7600/7900XT build so I definitely recommend that combo. But you can definitely pair it with a 7800X3D for a even stronger combo. And of course you can pair it with a 9600X or 9700X

I’m about to to upgrade to am5 any recommendations, I have a rx 6600, all I really need is the the motherboard, ram, and cpu but I was already thinking the 7500f
I wouldn't unless you plan to upgrade that GPU. That GPU is going to bottleneck the neck out of AM5 which will make the money you spent not worth it. That GPU should be paired with a 5600 at the highest. See our Best GPU/CPU Combo 2024 video for more
Hey Jason, the Ryzen 9000 Series doesn't officially retail launch until Tomorrow! So thanks for this excellent preview! I should be picking up my AM5 Motherboard soon, but if the Ryzen 9000 Series CPU's arrive priced $100-$200.00 Cad. more than the Current Ryzen 7000 Series CPU's, then I'm kind of stuck in: What do I do mode?? Finally, right now there's a $20.00 Cad. difference in price between: Ryzen 5 7600 & 7600x. Is the 7600x worth the Extra $20.00 ?? Thanks,
7600 and 7600X difference isn't worth paying money for (turn PBO on for both CPUs), but grab 7600X if same price. My advice is that if dropping down to the 7600 over the 9600X allows you to get a bigger GPU, then that is the direction I'd go generally until you get to the bigger GPUs like the 7900 XT and 4070 Ti Super.
@@PCBuilderChannel Hey Jason, I picked up the Gigabyte AM5 650 Eagle Motherboard & a 32 Gig 6000 Mhz. Kit for: $318.00 Cad. before Tax!! If I go with the Ryzen 5 7600 like you recommended, will I be OK using my AMD Wraith Prism Cooler ?? Thanks! Also they have an 'Open Box' Ryzen 5 7600 for: $256.00 Cad. before Tax! Hopefully they'll still have It at End of August = Payday!!
Not all cores are created equal. Its not about the number of cores anymore. At the beginning of Ryzen core count was a more useful metric, but now architecture and cache are far more important than core count. And typically the Ryzen 5 CPUs have been the best value gaming CPUs in each generation and I think the 9600X continues it.
I just built a Ryzen 5 8600G onan NZXT N7 b650e and my ram shows up as 86th percentile on passmark. I can say the G-skill 6400 mhz ram is not the best. I also see it's Intel XMP rated.
Been using Gigabyte RTX 4070 windforce OC without any issue IMO if one's looking to buy a Nvidia midrange card it's great value to that Don't need to buy fancy & pricier card (RTX 4070) in the end all style no substance - quote from Ada Wong 😊
Gaming performance numbers - vs - 7600x ? *Edit I've just watched Hardware unboxed review of the 9700x where its 3% improvement in gaming and most of the gains are in power usage. Some benefits in synthetic benchmarking were there although nothing outstanding for the most part Even being slower in some titles such titles as Starfield and limited uplift in Assassins creed and CSGO So im curious if for the 9600x vs 7600x the same thing applies.
Thus far what I'm seeing is the 9600X is the winner of the 9000 series and is providing similar gaming performance to the 7700X or even slightly better at times, for a reduced price and power usage. I suspect that is due to the cache usage improvements on Ryzen 9000 vs 7000, but can't confirm that yet.
Yes but I would get the 7600X over the 9600X personally. Big deals on it right now and the performance difference doesn't make the 9600X worth it. See our 7600X build guide video for more
IMO I wouldn't buy the 9600X to upgrade an existing 7600X, because you're spending $279 for about 10% (because you already own the 7600X). That's different when choosing between the 7600X and 9600X if you are buying them both new (so then you pay about $80 more for the 10%, which is more worth it). If you aren't happy with the 7600X, consider the 7800X3D which just dropped to $350 today. Hope that helps!
I was totally expecting this to be a "Don't! get a R5 7600X instead or wait for the problems to shake out first." video. This because every 9600X review I've seen so far has shown the CPU to perform badly. Well at least not blowing the 7600X out of the water, and in some games actually being slower. Something else all reviewers has talked about is crashes and blue screens repeatedly. Someone even retired their x7600 review and only posted a review of the R7 9700X instead as the 9600 was so unstable they couldn't do the benchmarks. Not that the 9700x was perfectly stable, but at least they were able to run the benchmarks. So I would suggest to either wait for the problems to be solved or just go for the older 7600X for the moment. Sure it may take a bit more power, but at least it will probably not crash your system as often. Or you could get a Intel processor and roll the die... For that I want to say the 13600K is cheap and within a percent of the performance of the 14600K, but the 12900K is the solid one without the bugs Intel is trying to nail down. An in games performance the 12900K is about equal with the 13600k and 14600K. So personally I don't think this is a good time to build a new system. You either get a Intel processor that might or might not die on you. Or you get a one gen old processor from AMD because right now the latest generation doesn't seem perfectly stable and slightly overpriced. I sure hope the AMD 9000 series will turn out to be stable, and perhaps it might start performing better with some bios upgrades, but right now it doesn't look like they are really ready for market.
I think that like the 7600X, the 9600X will be discounted quite quickly. Even at $279, it has a decent value proposition that the Ryzen 9700X just doesn't have - in fact the Ryzen 7 non-X3D CPUs have always been poor value and the 9700X at $359 continues that trend. I haven't seen any reports of 9600X instability (a lot of 9700X issues!) and ours ran rock solid including with a couple different RAM kits.
@@PCBuilderChannel Good to hear you didn't have any stability problems. A few of the reviewers that posted about the problems were Level1Techs, JayzTwoCents, Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed. The last also only posted a R7 9700X review as their R5 9600X weren't stable enough to run the benchmarks. On the other hand didn't Anadtech mention having any problems and posted higher performance for the 9000 series processors than the others. Some of the others contacted AMD and asked if their performance numbers looked reasonable and were told that was about what they should expect. But until the problems has been solved I would still be careful. It might just be BIOS problems, or the review samples sent out were from the batches that AMD called back to test in order to replace problematic examples before they were sold to customers. I blame Intel for making me this suspicious. There were few mentions of Intel processors having a problem before the big crash started. Now I want to see this strange instability explained before I feel sure about the new processors from AMD being a good choice.
Excellent valuable content. I like how creator needs are included. I like 360 mm AIO cooler since chips run snappier. Need a case that will take 360 AIO. Would like to know your recommendations 2 x 32 = 64 GB Ram kits (for creators) not much more expensive. Thanks. MDL
You certainly can but I would consider other GPU options if they are available in your market. In the US at least that GPU is terrible price to performance. See our latest GPU Market Update video for more
damm i can buy brand new PC here with 7500F for 160 Euro, 7600 for 190 Euro or 9600X for 320 Euro, gee i wonder which to pick AMD never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity huh? what a waste
Remember all core aren't created equal. In the beginning of Ryzen core count was a more useful metic, but now the architecture and cache of the cores is more important than amount.

I still gotta hold on my build but, interesting to see what’s coming out for my 25’ build!

9600x can keep up with 7600x at lower tdp and through bios can easily bring up the tdp increasing it’s performance
Do you think the PG Riptide is worth the slightly higher cost over the Pro RS?
How good would this build work for gaming & photo editing 50:50 with RX7800XT. I'd be coming from i7 9700k with 1060 6GB. I'm figuring I'd see some good uplift in performance? thanks
It would work fine but honestly not more fine than a 7600X which would be significantly cheaper. See our 7600X build guide to compare.
@@PCBuilderChannel thanks will take a look
So, am I right this CPU is opponent to 7 7500f and which is better ? And another question: is 7 7800x3d still the best CPU for gaming?
Ryzen 5 9600x is the same as 7600x same with 9700x and 7700x. Gaming performance is better for the ryzen 7. And yes, the 7800x3d remains as the best gaming CPU.
7800X3D is still the best. 9600X should beat 7500f when paired with higher GPUs but testing is still happening.
Thank you once again for your work! I did find that depending on the board, it is preferable to use a EXPO rated ram kit. I know theoretically it shouldn’t matter, but how optimized the BIOS is does matter. Unless I did something wrong. I have the MSI mpg b650 edge. Once I changed the memory kit to a expo rated kit, I had no more issues, nor did I need manual tuning.
very good video wat nice
What do you think about the gigabyte aorus x ax ice mobo? Going for a white mobo. Also do you think the id cooling frozen a620 is overkill?

@@PCBuilderChannel Sweet! Now this sounds like a plan. Thanks a lot!
Are the stock Montech fans in the XR good? Is it worth replacing them with something like the Arctic P12?
You can of course, but I thought they were pretty good. The test of time is a bit more important. Basically do the bearings wear out too fast in the cheaper fans and cause more noise, but the case just came out so it is hard to say. IMO run the fans it came with to start out and decide if you want to replace them.
@@PCBuilderChannel Thanks, good to know!

7600 and 7600X difference isn't worth paying money for (turn PBO on for both CPUs), but grab 7600X if same price. My advice is that if dropping down to the 7600 over the 9600X allows you to get a bigger GPU, then that is the direction I'd go generally until you get to the bigger GPUs like the 7900 XT and 4070 Ti Super.

I can't believe they really made a 6 core cpu in 2024.

Gaming performance numbers - vs - 7600x ?
*Edit
I've just watched Hardware unboxed review of the 9700x where its 3% improvement in gaming and most of the gains are in power usage.
Some benefits in synthetic benchmarking were there although nothing outstanding for the most part
Even being slower in some titles such titles as Starfield and limited uplift in Assassins creed and CSGO
So im curious if for the 9600x vs 7600x the same thing applies.

See our 7600X build guide video for more
@@PCBuilderChannel Alright thank you for your response it really help.
When i upgrade my pc I’m thinking on the 9600x to pair with my 7900gre which is currently paired with a 7600x.
@@PCBuilderChannel cheers!
Just get 7800x3d
