    My grandma had a copy of one of Margaret's paintings of two little girls that were barefeet. One blond and one brunette...they seemed to be in an alley. They had the Keane signature at the bottom. I loved seeing that painting so I'm glad I finally got to hear the true story behind Margaret's work. I'm so glad she stood up for herself 💕 She's a genius!

      I'm having trouble recalling if some of those were of puppies ? Right now I'm just remembering the ones that were of cats .
      I could see why a puppy on a rope and a piece of bread next to it could be very haunting and depressing .
      Yes understandable why as a child you would hate that painting and it means you had empathy .

    *Watching this I can see a beautiful woman and such a brilliant artist who doesn't paint for money but from heart. Listen to her speaking so calmly is like a therapy. I am so happy that now I know a little bit of her history, paintings and everything. I can feel that she is a little bit insecure yet but nothing that a strong woman like her can deal with. Love it! Thank you for the video.* E um salve do Brasil!

    Too bad I wasn't even born yet, I love those big eyes pictures. No wonder her ex-husband Walter took advantage of her, she is so soft spoken and if he is anything on how he was characterized in the film "Big Eyes" he was a snake a fraud. I am glad she finally spoke out and told the truth. Also she mentions she took the check from the guy that was a FBI fugitive and she says he looked honest, with that alone you can tell she is terrible judge of character. Too bad a woman in those days needed a man to "protect her" even the catholic priest said something of the like excusing Walter's lies.
    I am on eBay seeking some Keane paintings....

    Margaret Keane endures a lifetime of men speaking for her.
    Mike Douglas asks her questions only to talk over her and to not even let her answer a few of them. And asking for the camera to zoom in on the woman holding the painting, such blatant objectification. Margaret encounters one repulsive man after the other.

      Men can't do anything right when it comes to women. I agree 100% that there are terrible men out there, but you feminist take things too far and scapegoat men who are decent. This modern feminist movement is trying to psychologically "castrate" men!!!

    • @waivedwench
      @waivedwench 8 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      +TheOldOakSyndicate Probably because we women can't seem to do anything right in the eyes of you "men." If we are raped, then we must have "asked for it". If we are beaten, we must have "provoked it". If we bring charges against rapists, we are "accusers", not "victims". If we get pregnant as a result of rape, then it wasn't a "real" rape. If we demonstrate leadership qualities, we are "bossy." If we stand up for our rights, we are "aggressive." If we get high positions or places in government, it is "tokenism." I could go on, but you've probably got the point. If you're so concerned about how you decent men are being "scapegoated", then why don't more decent men stand up and call out those people who throw around words like "legitimate rape" and "rape accuser" and "bossy?"

      There was a painting “showdown” set up at Union Square in San Francisco. It was publicized, reporters present, etc. Walter was a “no-show”. I don’t believe that was shown in the movie. Years after this appearance on Mike Douglas Show there was a court case (in 1986) to decide who really was the artist. The judge gave both of them an allotted time to produce a painting in open court. Margaret finished hers in just under an hour. Walter produced nothing at all. He claims to have shoulder issues from injury or bursitis etc. Based on that the judge determined that Margaret was the actual artist of the artwork. That was shown in the movie.

    Now her paintings will be even more famous perhaps. I just saw the movie. Wished the poor lady wood have stood up for herself a little earlier. I don't like her paintings, this genre type, modern art, but everybody has their style. Sad to hear she became a Jehovah's Witness. In the movie, she was portrayed as a soft spoken (smoking, yuck) lady who did was a little naïve-so I'm not surprised to see her turn to a cult, a false religion. Feel sorry for her. Hopefully she will somehow be awakened at 1 moment that she made a bad choice in time of need. That's what happened to my husband's aunt. Now she's so heavily involved in their falseness. Too bad.

      She's happy. That's what religion can do for people. She joined them because their beliefs reflected alot of her values

      The Newbie you didnt saw the movie rigth? In the movie you see that she decides to tell the truth because of what she was reading and learning from the bible. Also she takes responsability of her bad decisions.

      +BrightOrange J You got a twisted sense of "fault". You have no idea how to describe a good thought. Your good thought was "Well she's there and said nothing." Doesn't equate to it being her fault too.

      It was a different time for women when this happened. Many women were stuck in the positions she was stuck in. It's not like today where a woman can fight back or easily leave a marriage.

    She is too soft-spoken and meek. She would have died poor and unknown had it not been for her husband. If the movie, "Big Eyes" is to be believed then she didn't value he art or know how to sell it.
