    Margaret Keane isn't the first woman this has happened to. Men have been taking credit for the achievements of women for centuries. :)

      As you know, JW is a religion that puts men over women. How could she remain there after what she had been through?

    Such a wonderful artist...!! I watched her movie today. I can see how her personality and kind heart would make her a subject of manipulation, control and abuse. So glad her work was eventually recognized. It's upsetting to know that Walter never went to jail for deceiving the whole world and stealing from her.

    • @gardensofthegods
      @gardensofthegods 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quite a story .
      May she rest in peace .
      I wish that back when her husband was stealing her work and forcing her to work 16 hours a day that she instead would have started telling him that her hand was starting to hurt and cramp up and that she couldn't paint as much ... that way he would have gotten less work out of her to steal .
      And I wish that while he was out selling the artwork she would have been talking to Gallery dealers and proving to them that she is the actual painter and not her husband .

    The movie is sooo underrated Critics bash the movie because the character of Walter being too over the top but this woman who knew how he was in REAL LIFE said he was exactly like that how can you criticize someone acting like the person acted in real life? ughh i fucking Hate Critics some times they don't have fucking idea

    • @men_del12

      Overexageration is usually cringe but in this movie it REALLY works well. Even if Walter wasn't like that in real life, at least it helps us see how he seemed to behave in Margaret's perspective. The anger and helplessness felt throughout the movie gets amplified. As far as I know I don't usually get very emotional over movies so yeah.

    I'm a Jehovah's Witness and I wanted to watch this movie just because I like Amy Adams and the movie looked interesting WELL when the Witness popped up I was so surprised. I'm so glad she's a sister and the movie/real life story took a turn I wasn't expecting. It turns out my family and I have had a magnet of one of her painting of paradise on are fridge for years. Even says KeenLook (one of her distributes on the back). Movie was even better than I though.

      Thank you Mrs Ronaldo713. In Hawaii the friends had plates. They said she was lovely with her talents and knowledge of the future. I have a rare painting either someone copied on canvas of a Big Eye. I remembered when the paintings were everywhere. Now is the time to learn how to paint with all of following the instructions we have been told from New York. Its a pleasure to see your post.

    I feel like an idiot because I didn't know this story before now. I just watched the movie "Big Eyes" and it wasn't until the end that I realized it was a true story. I immediately came to find information online and found this video. Wow. Thank you so very much for posting this video. Now, I HAVE to find one of her paintings and buy it.... IF I can afford one or even a print.

    after revealing her story, im positive you can outline alot of Margets feelings at 1955-1965 in her paintings. the yellow girl in here feels like she is sheltered from the world in a clastrophobic way, Like marget herself wws during this decade, Im sure the "tears" in some paintings mirrors her own tears, not to be able to take credit for her art.. i can imagine how much her inner emotions must have been in a foggy state at that moment.
    Im also, sadly, after watchin BiG Eyes has a though of what if... It was the 50s, it was a mans world, and if Marget sold her painting from start would she ever gained the publicity and fame as Walter did?
    I feels wrong to even think in this way, but I still can't let go what good this (fraud) did for womans status. As after 1965 this painting had a world known reputation and Marget just walks out and says,.. it wasnt a man made thing, its a woman made thing.
    I also get a feeling the whole paintings by Marget during 1955-65 reprsent her marriage with Walter... as she being the lonely girl who cries but can only tell the horrible truth throughout her eyes.
    It was just one of world most twisted mystery, in my eyes.

    • @ac-jn1iq
      @ac-jn1iq 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just bc he made them popular doesn’t mean he made the paintings themselves. Maybe she wouldn’t have been as famous, but she would have ownership of her own work without lying and being abused….which is more important ??? Fame or your own sanity and rights ??

    I remember the Keane gallery near Ghiradelli Square in S.F. Once I was singing in Maiden Lane (near Union square in SF) and Margaret Keane had a show at a gallery there. I think it was around
    1970 and someone commented to me that Margaret was sketching me. At that point I couldn't care less, but NOW I would love to have seen what she did with me and my costume and guitar. I
    always wonder if there is a big eye portrait of me floating around somewhere. What Margaret went through with Walter is not much different than what many women went through in the '50's.
    Glad she finally sued him.

    dabull136 Believe what you believe, but please keep in mind that a woman like this found comfort and the courage to stand up because of our religion. And Rod Bender, it was rather inaccurate to call our religion a cult as a cult is a belief or small group that does sinister things.

      A cult is a group of people that are brainwashed into blindly follow the leader, the leader in this being the governing body, a few old fart's sitting in brooklyn , making up new rules as they see fit. Yes, JW is very much a cult!

    I love the passion she has for her art. I'm glad she got to claim her art while her ex remained a bitter old fool.
