Don't get me wrong, Savage was a god on the mic, but I think WWE heavily scripting everything now really hurts their workers. Guys like Gallows and Anderson are legitimately witty and sharp as fuck, but they're not allowed to do anything but recite the dumbass lines creative has for them. If they let the wrestlers go out and get over, you'd see more stuff like this today.
oh yeah. it's okay for macho men to show every emotion available, oh yeah, you know, because i've cried a thousand times and i'm gonna cry a thousand more. Buuut! I've soared with the eagles and I've slithered with the snakes and I've been everywhere in between and I'm gonna tell you something right now: There's one guarantee in life and that's that there are no guarantees, yeah. AAAaannnnnd! understand this: nobody likes a quitter, nobody said life was easy so if you get knocked down, take the standing eight count, get back up, and fight again, then you're a Macho Maniac. Dig it!
A lot of professional athletes could learn from Macho. This is how you answer a question about steroids. He admits to using steroids and then promotes not doing them because they are poison. People gotta respect that.
+Daniel Santana right? You've seen hogans sit with Arsenio, right? The 15 minutes of Terry playing the victim, trying to set the record straight, tries his utmost to explain why he didn't do anything wrong. Just came off entirely different. I always respected macho for this - straight out admitted it, didn't run from it - and then used the opportunity to put out a positive message. I think Vince understood that... He recognized the value in having Randy as a leader and a spokesman.... If only he'd seen his value as a wrestler beyond 1994.
Better wrestler, better talker, better person, better person... He'd rather put new guys in wrestling over, instead of making them jobbers like Hogan would. Also, his "I'M NOT A RACIST!" comment... Seems like he knew something we didn't know at the time.
"I've cried a thousand times, I'll cry a thousand more...BUT... I've soared with the eagles, I've slithered with the snakes and I've been everywhere inbetween, and I'm gonna tell you something right now. There's one guarantee in life, that there are no guarantees, yeah, AND, you gotta understand this, no body likes a quitter. Nobody said life was easy. So if you get knocked down, take the standing eight count, get back up and fight again."
+illuminatioracle as a kid i was also a fan of the hulkster more than savage. now as a grownup i love macho man's personality in ring performance much more than hogan .
I understand. I wasn't much into macho as a kid, i liked seeing him but wasnt a favorite. As age came about, looking back at older wrestling I was like how could I pass on this guy as a kid??
5:30 - This is why I always admire Savage more than Hogan, is the fact that he is honest about past steroid use and doesn't skirt around the issue at all.
He was honest enough to admit that he had done them in the past, but come on. Only a fool would believe he could maintain the physique he did for as long as he did from only "experimenting" with them in the past. He did them for most of his life, and for years after this interview. He was in character here and clearly speaking to the youth, so he was right to lie. He was being Macho Man Randy Savage, not Jewish-Italian American Randy Poffo from Ohio. The truth is that kids taking steroids will destroy their bodies and their lives. Steroids led Randy to an early grave. But for a superstar like Randy at the time he was in the business, they were a necessity. The average person using anabolics will never get a body like he had, but even with the best genetics you aren't going to get a body like he had without anabolics.
Having said that, he obviously worked his ass off, too. He was a natural athlete from a family of athletes, plus he spent hours everyday in the gym and always ate right. But yeah, he used steroids for decades, which gave him the incredible physique and career he had, but also gave him the enlarged heart that ended his life with a sudden heart attack at age 58. For every shortcut in life, there's a price to pay. He made MILLIONS and it still probably wasn't worth it. He should be alive today. Think about that if you ever consider using performance enhancing drugs. Odds are you will never come even close to being "Macho Man" but you will damage your organs and shorten your life just the same.
AND future steroid use. He used Steroids in 1998-2000 which made him huge again. Sadly, this is probably why he died. Had he never taken them again post-1992, he would still be here.
I speak from experience when I say there’s nothing like rolling up in a 1985 Honda hatchback with spray painted flames on the front wheel wells, hood patched together with cardboard and duct tape, as you blast “get back” while waving Foodbank Slim Jim’s out the window. Savage don’t fear no man.
Man I play that on the beach every year I go for the 4th. Never fails to get everyone but the oldest folks into it (which is understandable, I'm 47 for the record).
“It’s ok for Macho Men to show every emotion available right there, you know. I’ve cried a thousand times and I’m gonna cry some more”. That’s probably one the best advice you could give to kids. Especially from someone like Macho Man.
What was great about him. He was about that life, got down & dirty, and took no shit. But he wasn't about the small-dick posturing & toxic masculinity about how a man is *supposed* to be.. He was compassionate & intelligent. Good contrast is The Undertaker, saying all the current wrestlers are pussies because they play games & spend time looking pretty instead of the dudes he came up with who carried weapons, had to struggle to eat, and busted heads in bars. He's every bit the stereotype of a big meathead wrestler.
Especially since people of his generation helped push toxic masculinity, it definitely is beautiful to see someone tell young kids (and emotionally neglected adults)that it’s okay to cry and when you are showing pain and still fighting you’re stronger than before.
+Lukeor The Macho Man was one of the greatest athletes on the ring during that era of wrestling. it's not fair to put his ability behind promo and look

"madness." I genuinely love this interview in more ways than I can describe, so I'll leave it at that. Always stay realistic, but keep on being Macho Maniacs out there and chase your dreams.

3:04 “When I was a macho baby”. Man, I love the idea of a baby version of savage, with sunglasses and everything, shooting off one liners and devastating in the ring.
macho was a pros pro in the territories, wwf, and wcw.... as an 80s kid i always loved the baby faces and a few hees! loved macho, steamboat, jake roberts, demolition, billy jack andre, piper, honky, dibase, hercules hernandez, sgt. slaughter, and of course hulk
the best..not only in character the whole time, but gave an important message say no to drugs and stay in school. He used his platform and popularity to let kids believe its cool to stay in school, and coming from him I DID.
Ran D That's what made it so cool. He stayed in character but gave a good message (as a heel at this point). But he didn't sound phony like guys who would do this today would.
right, how come 80's and 90's wwe wrestlers had interesting wrestling personas compared to now(there a few young inter. characters currently)? where they given more freedom with their characters in that time, what do you think?
His ability to improvise is crazy. Also he’s answering questions in character but also giving real answers lol this guy was great at what he did

I'm not a racist!
Oooooh yeeeaaaa RIP MACHO MAN
Macho Man Randy Savage is a timeless character. To be honest, I gotta say, I miss Arsenio as the late night host. He was the best.
3:04 “When I was a macho baby”. Man, I love the idea of a baby version of savage, with sunglasses and everything, shooting off one liners and devastating in the ring.
Arsenio: "You should make a rap album".
Damn you, Arsenio!
Lol
macho was a pros pro in the territories, wwf, and wcw.... as an 80s kid i always loved the baby faces and a few hees! loved macho, steamboat, jake roberts, demolition, billy jack andre, piper, honky, dibase, hercules hernandez, sgt. slaughter, and of course hulk
the best..not only in character the whole time, but gave an important message say no to drugs and stay in school. He used his platform and popularity to let kids believe its cool to stay in school, and coming from him I DID.
Ran D That's what made it so cool. He stayed in character but gave a good message (as a heel at this point). But he didn't sound phony like guys who would do this today would.
He handled that question about steroids perfectly.
a true gentleman and a great entertainer. they don't make 'em like this one anymore!
right, how come 80's and 90's wwe wrestlers had interesting wrestling personas compared to now(there a few young inter. characters currently)? where they given more freedom with their characters in that time, what do you think?
He was just fucking magic. devoted to his work persona and just fucking inspiring. Like his insporational speaches. What a LEGEND
"I'm cool calm and reLAXED!!!"
