I consider Citi to be a very underrated setup. If you're thinking just the Citi trifecta, you're missing out. I'm very excited to get my hands on the Strata Premier in a couple weeks.

04:29 Step 2. Apply for the 1st Citi Custom Cash card.
05:04 Step 3. Apply for a Citi Double Cash card.
05:52 Step 4. Apply for the Citi Rewards+ card.
06:31 Step 5. Convert Double Cash into a 2nd Citi Custom Cash.
07:47 Step 6. Apply for a NEW Double Cash card.
08:07 Step 7. Convert your Rewards+ into Citi Custom Cash card #3.
09:11 Summary
The Citi Premier has been replaced by the Citi Strata Premier for all. The new Strata Premier card adds 3X on EV and the 10X on Hotels and car rentals through the Citi Portal is an ongoing feature. The Strata Premier also comes with travel benefits: Trip Delay (6hrs), Trip Interruption and Cancellation, luggage loss or damage and rental CDW. I'll need to read the fine print to determine if primary or secondary and will update here.
the most detailed citi strategy by far, great work.
Much appreciated.
No, he doesn't know much about Citi. I have 16 Citi cards.
Thanks for the info + video!
Step 1 done. Got approved for the Strata Premier today
Nice!! Now start working on that bonus!!
Awesome video Richard! Really informative and a such a fresh take on credit card setups. I’m slowly working towards acquiring these Citi cards.
That's the way to do it, take you time to avoid my many missteps 😊
Very interesting, refreshing to hear a new strategy as opposed to the same old chase trifecta which obviously has its merits but is undoubtedly limited in certain respects. Nice job
Chase definitely offers value. I however, do worry that they are becoming stale as a company. Citi, Bilt and even CP1 is innovating. BILT adding HILTON and the Citi Strata adding travel perks makes it very difficult to recommend the Sapphire Preferred. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙏
awesome thanks for making this vid. didnt know you can just ask them to convert cards.
You need to watch all of my videos for 2024. Share the ones you believe your friends and family would find interesting. Lots of great content. Grab some popcorn 🍿🍿

Wow! Thanks for letting us know! I had to subscribe and like!!!
Hey, thanks for the support!!!
Fantastic Five! I have the Premier, Custom, and Double...
Well let's go! 2 more to go!!
I glad to see this video I use Citi set up in stead of chase only because I’m over 5/24
I didn’t start with chase either
I got my first Citi double cash
Trying for my second Custom then Citi Strata
Citi is my replacement for Chase cards
Thank you for this Video brother
New subscriber 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
I'm pumped
I'm sure you meant no pun intended 😊😊
Very nice! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Looking forward to mom’s unboxing!
You were able to bring your dog to Kenya? That’s so cool!
He's my trusted travel companion!! He's always with me on extended stays.
I like it I like it!!
So do I 😂
You’ve just earned a sub! I love the Citi trifecta! It’s only $95 a year to hold!
I didn’t start with Chase either and it’s good there’s other Trifecta’s
Thank you for the support. Yes the competition is great. I make fun of Chase because they are held up as the holy Grail. Don't get me wrong, Chase is good but there are other solid choices. I enjoy showing options.
Very interesting. I now have the Strata Premier, CDC, and CCC. However, I got those three cards after getting the Chase cards I wanted. I agree with most creators that this is best for many people. When Citi foolishly dropped travel protections - on travel cards! Huh? - I canceled my original Premier. But, since it appears they’ve seen the error of their ways and brought some protections back, so I’m giving the Premier another go. Thanks for the interesting video.
The Strata Premier has been rock-solid for me as I travel Africa and now that it offers protections it is now relevant for many other folks. However, I don't use it for flights. That reserved for my Amex Plat, CSR or BILT (4X) when booking on Rent Day. I use BILT in such use-cases because I'm expecting to convert 4X BILT points into 10X when they offer elevated transfer bonuses.
Sounds like it works great for your situation. That’s great. Everyone’s MMV.
@@anthonygardner400 It does and you're 100% on-point regarding use-cases.
My plan was similar! I wanted to get 2x Custom cash, Premier, Double Cash, Rewards and get a JetBlue card. The whole build was focused on JetBlue flights. Sadly JetBlue is going to discountinue many destination flights I was looking forward to, so I had to drop the whole idea. Still, great setup!
Just when you think you've figured it all out, there is a change. I was ready to pounce on Turkish Airlines then they had a material devaluation. However, we more on because there is always a hack to be had . I detailed a BILT hack regarding dining and rent day transfer boost then BILT immediately downgraded many of the 10X restaurants. My plan is to only issue special hack to subscribers and not the general web.
I'm already well into this process, though I'm only targeting 2 custom cash cards. Currently working on an AAdvantage Platinum Elite Select that I'll product change into my 2nd CCC after 1 year.
Way to go! My goal is 4 and then I promise I'll be done 😊
Awesome set up Richard. Where would the new Citi strata fall in your set up?? too early to tell or would you be downgrading the premier and getting a strata?
Sorry if it wasn't clear. Citi Premier cards are ALL being converted to the Citi Strata Premier. The Magnificent 5 includes the new Citi Strata Premier.
I’d add in a Bilt Card to the setup and you should have a nice setup and options.
Nice profile pic 😂
You already know that I have mad love for the BILT cars but just addressing that user who wants to stay with one issuer.
I'm crushing it here in Kenya with the Bilt card. BILT ought to put me on a retainer.
They just added Hilton, so gonna talk about that tomorrow
I’m so mad got denied for the custom cash for to many new account
I can’t blame them 4 accounts in 1 month so it makes sense
I guess I have to wait a year to start working on Citi cards save this video for a year from now thank you
Citi is pretty tough. It takes patience for most strategies which is why I preach to be very intentional with card acquisitions. I'm by no means perfect because I've made tons of dumb mistakes.
Does the 10% rebate with the rewards plus work on transferred points too or only those redeemed through the city portal?
It applies to all types of points redemptions that were initially earned by you. So yes to transferred points. It however doesn't apply to points sharing. If a friend shared points with you, those don't qualify.
What’s interesting about this setup! It has the potential to give you 5% back on the big 3, Grocery Restaurants Gas. Also it makes you have to play the long game.
Great observation Steven. I'm a firm believer that we should be intentional with our card acquisitions. When I first started out, I didn't think about what cards to get. Credit cards used to be just about not carrying cash. That has clearly changed where I seek to get as much value as possible.
What credit bureau does citi pull from?
Citi application rules are a bit different, it's called 8/65 rule. You can apply more often than you said. I once got 3 Premiers in a span of 65 days, and got a bonus on all 3 of them. You can convert after a year, this is based on a CARD act from 2009. You can't convert before a year.
How did you get SUB for the 3 premier if you can only get the SUB every 4 years, for the same card product? I know it use to be every 2 years.
@@Jesus-kt5dc You get 1st, then 2nd, then 3rd. You can start working on a SUB, but not finish it, until you got the last card. In 65 days you can get 3 cards.
Technically yes you may apply sooner but the goal here is success for the average person to have and hold a long term setup.
@@RSquared-travel-rewards you can downgrade unneeded Premiers to Custom Cashes after a year. That's exactly what I did.
Love the accent
Hahaha
Bro just doxxed himself living with his mom
Think harder and guess why that might not be the case 😊
Also If I ever needed to live with my mom or she with me, I wouldn't have a challenge with either arrangement. I'm Lebanese and family is everything!!
For gas I would use Wyndham Business.
I was just denied for a Citi AA Exec card because of too many cards in the last 16 months. Do you know what Citi's rules are? Could these cards you mention be more lenient?
Unfortunately they are no easier. I've been denied for the double cash 3 times. Citi is very sensitive to hard pulls and velocity of new cards.
Citi Premier is still available on the website
Others indicated that it is being removed from the website but I never did because I haven't seen such information. I do know that the strata premier is tee up to be released because there is a locked down citi site ready to go. I also reported what I got from a rep directly that all regular premiers are being replaced and that renewals for June/July will automatically be replaced with the Strata which impacts me directly.
I have the magnificent 7:
double cash , 2 custom cards, rewards +, premier, aadvantage business and costco
You're all in with Citi. Where's your AA card 😂. Let's be clear, there is only a Magnificent 5. You can't just make up your own terms 😂😂
Seriously, I love Citi. Now that the Premier officially has travel protection, I wonder what the Chase loyalists will come up with.
I have the AA advantage business card as part of my magnificent 7 😂
citi only credit card who gave me any cards back in 2017 when I had no credit. I got the Costco then applied for the AA personal card a week later. Citi offered me upgrade to AA business 2 yrs later. I use my Citi cards most they don’t have high annual fees like most of these companies. Excited to get new strata card in mail soon. Now supposed to have travel insurance 😃
@@kcmysticman007 ahh, I missed the AA ref in you original post.
Yes, the travel protection is official and on Citi's site. I'm loving the 6hr trip delay protection. That's elite. Speaking of elite, I'd love that version of the Strata later this year.
The magnificent 5 sounds like the big 5 😉🌍
Lol. Not quite but I'll be checking out the big 5 very soon once more family arrive to visit.
Can you guess where I massaged the name from? 😊
@@RSquared-travel-rewardsit comes from Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa, then there was a remake called Magnificent Seven by John Sturges.
@@RSquared-travel-rewards Awesome! I don’t think they would want to leave, they would fall in ❤️/🌍
Hello my friend what if I started out the Citi double , then the Citi custom last the strata ?? Then last two Custom cards in that order
You may acquire the cards in any order. If you have imminent travel then be sure to get the strata in advanced of travel.
@@RSquared-travel-rewards thank you Richard for reply
If the Gold card goes to $350 or Higher I”ll get rid of it
But until that time comes I
Love my Rose Gold card .
Working on my Citi 5
Magnificent in for the long haul
@@Anthonyjones-pq4ff unless they add a credit which I may use in my sleep, I'm gone as well. I get tons of value from BILT and citi that I wouldn't need the gold card.
How is this possible when Citi will only issue one Citi Custom Cash Card account per person? It says so right on their website?
But I explained it to you in the video. You can only apply for 1 but you may product change to many of them. That's why I went through the trouble of making the video.
Citi does not limit you from product changing the multiple sets of these cards. Trust the strategy 😊 th-cam.com/video/F8IWHhRc5Ho/w-d-xo.html
If I already have the old Premier card, will I automatically get the new Strata Premier card?
You sure will. If you log into your Citi account online it might already read Citi Strata Premier. Mine does and I know that my card is in the process of being shipped.
Don't some of these cards have 24 month rules for thank you point earning card signup bonuses?
Yes. The premier is 48 months, but the no annual fee cards are 24 months. Just like the Chase Sapphire and Freedom timelines.
Correct but a signup bonus on a 2nd Double Cash after the first one's converted is not the goal. However, as stated in the video, you may opt acquire the cards at your own pace. So if receiving a 2nd double cash SUB is desired then nothing wrong with waiting because that's the last step.
I got a question about Capital One. They closed my account while I had an ongoing balance I was going to pay in summer (after internship), because payments I was doing didn't go through, and with rent, the card ended up going slightly above the limit. Will this affect my chances of getting credit cards with other issuers if my score barely stays affected (after I pay the balance of the closed account in full). FYI: Never missed any payments.
Simply no. They look at overall balance vs % of total balance. So % wise, you will get hit, but as long as you have ton of available credit, overall % won't be affected much (like you said, your score barely affected) At least that is my experience.
@@kevinManhattan so CP1 closing an account while it was slightly overlimit won't be a red flag for them (as long I don't miss a payment and I pay it off fully)?
A credit card closure by the issuer due to unfavorable card usage is not good. All negative card activity impacts you but the degree to which it impacts you depends on your entire credit profile and not just your fico score. To play this game to win, be diligent in your card management. Use alerts and always check balances to ensure that statements payments are recorded.
@@RSquared-travel-rewards good to know, thank you so much!
👍
Can u have more than 2 citi American cards?
Technically you may hold all 4 of the Citi AA cards. You can't have too much velocity with card acquisitions else Citi will deny you but not because you want more than 2.
👍🏼👍🏼
Does citi ever have elevated transfer promos like chase? I’ve been thinking about the strata and doing some research before applying
I think I'm seen it maybe once 😀. BILT offers the best xfer bonuses then it's a toss-up between Amex and Chase. CP1 and Citi pretty much keep it steady. However, I love CP1 and Citi for Ethiad and Turkish Airline transfers. Citi's 2X transfer to Choice hotels is always great in a pinch!
@@RSquared-travel-rewards I have a India trip coming and I think they also work with emirates too
@@Rt23590 Yes, the big 5 credit card issuers ALL transfer to Emirates which is why I didn't call it out. I've been amassing Emirates miles here and there because I expect to make 2 Biz Class redemptions next year.
I haven't done India as yet, but GOA is 100% on the list. Always interested in learning about top spots in India.
@@RSquared-travel-rewards the only reason I’m hesitating is I just applied for 2 cards this month already. Do you think if I applied for the premier I would get denied for that reason?
@@Rt23590 The answer is always "it depends". Citi like the other card issues have their own algorithms where they take your entire credit profile into consideration. If your 2 recent cards are Citi cards, you'd definitely have to wait until day 66 to apply for a 3rd card. We know that this applies to Citi but not sure if they would treat your current new card velocity the same way. Also, we know that Citi also looks at your overall card acquisition volume within the past 12 months. If you're not in a rush, I would recommend that you give it a full 65 since your last card for safety.
What would suggest if I downgraded from the Premier to the CC, and won’t qualify for a new Premier SUB for 2.5 years?
It really depends on if you're going to travel or if you're going to settle for just cash back. If you downgrade to the CC, you'll lose access to transfer partners so you'd have to settle for cash back or you would have to sit on the points. I actually don't recommend that approach. You need to hold onto your ThankYou points so I'd recommend that you at least get a Rewards+ card so that your ThankYou point are safe. If you then wish to convert the Premier to a CC then that's ok.
I want the Thank You Points, not cash back, but won't qualify for the Premier SUB for a while. I guess my options are to wait for the SUB or product change to the Premier if I want to transfer my points out.
@@edboc if you received the Premier SUB before, you have to wait 4 yrs for it again. Citi has confirmed that to be the case. I recommend that you allow the process to play out. Why not get the Rewards+ and double cash and convert those over time?
@@RSquared-travel-rewardsI want to stay under 5/24 for Ink cards.
The accent at 3:34😍 where are you from habibi?
Ana min libnen.
@@RSquared-travel-rewards Maronite?
Capital One Duo?
Not a bad setup which I own as well but some prefer to stay away from the $395 AF
Very nice though it should have been called the Citi penfecta instead of the magnificent 5.
Hahaha, doesn't roll off the tongue 😂
Since credit cards are closer aligned to finance, I wanted to pay homage to the magnificent 7 term used in the stock trading world.
Hi handsome
Hi bro. You better be coming to visit again this year.
The only downside to this whole setup is no Visa - no Costco.
There is now only room for the Strata Elite 😊. Costco, though valuable to some folks is too specific.
@RSquared-travel-rewards I'd say a large part of the population is spending at Costco and is not too specific. Nearly everyone I know has a Costco membership.
I'm not denying Costco value but I'm valuing ThankYou points with the Magnificent 5 as these cards all work together.
Well i just converted a double cash to a second custom cash card. And i have another double fash and cash rewards+. So youre saying convert the rewards plus to another custom cash? Lol
Awesome! Now you're playing the 5X game. Yes, get that 3 rd CCC. Strategize on which 5% categories work for you to maximize 5X spend without going over! We never want 1X if we can help it.
Nothing wrong with picking up a rewards+ again after completing the Magnificent 5.
Once you complete the Citi Magnificent 5, send me a pic of them displayed. I'll include the pic and your first name in a follow-up Magnificent 5 video.
Btw, be sure to let folks know which channel the term Citi Magnificent 5 came from😊.
Trying to get some street cred before the big guys claim the term as their own 😂
@@RSquared-travel-rewards haha I'll try but getting that strata premier will be mountain of a challenge to get 😂 when citi wants me to have a specific card they usually send an offer in the mail which is how I got three of the four but if not it's usually no dice 😂
1) Not a big fan of Citi.
2) Too many luxury cards out there that have overlapping categories, so Citi might not even make it on the list.
I enjoy the premier for travel because no one beats it on all the travel focused categories..
Strata Premier is CRAP compared to Citi Prestige (which you can no longer get).
3x point is nonsense compared to 5x on Prestrige for AIR TRAVEL and DINING.
10x points on their portal is a scam because prices on their portal are a ripoff.
Cash rewards is the WORST VALUE of all rewards. Give me point transfer any day.
You're comparing the Strater Premier to its older brother? That's like comparing the Sapphire Preferred to the Reserve. Not a very useful comparison.
