I am loving all your episodes! I know for a fact my wet blanket would run a mile and would hide behind me! He has 0 protective behaviour! He’s a very shy dog and will hide behind me! 😂
Loving these! So true today's society is less understanding of dogs. 18 years ago I had a very timid quiet lurcher with my first born son. This dog was the last dog I would of ever expected to bite someone and thank god it happed 18 years ago and if someone had told me this lurcher would be a "protection dog" I would of laughed in their face as she was that laid back. My son (14 months old) was toddling in front of us in the park, my lurcher I had just let off the lead when a man ran round us and grabbed my son, before I registered what was going on my lurcher went for the man and bit his leg, he dropped my son (My son was fine, just scared), she stood by my son barking. I did not recognise my own dog. I admit I was more bothered about my child and I ran and picked him up and my dog then chased after the man that was running away, I called her and she came straight back, yes I rewarded, cuddled, cried and thanked my dog for saving my son. I know this was a one in a million dog, but you never know if you have that one in a million dog unless something like this happens so how could anyone ever train a dog not to do this? This was a lurcher, my GSD did nothing. If this happened today, that man would be the victim and my dog would of lost her life for doing something she instinctively knew was right - not trained to do, she chose to react to protect my son.
Brilliant and very interesting. I have seen a number of stories recently about some famous people who have bought very expensive dogs to protect their home and family. Seems they are in for a shock when it comes to the crunch!! My current dog would run a mile unless they had food but many years ago I had a German shepherd bitch who made me feel safe as she would place herself between me and anyone I stopped to talk to. No evidence that she would have actually done anything but she was reassuring 😂
I will mention "big dog energy" factor. I'm comfortable in knowing that my wife can go out with my 46kg gsd not because he's a protective dog but because the small chance of her being hassled is made even smaller if the "would be hassler" sees her with a big dog, with a big reputation and a massive booming bark. Even though he's a big softy. Also, any dog can deter a burglar as it's more likely to make noise and alert to problems.
Best show yet, Thank you. With regards to the dog sensing/standing up when close to grandparents house, the reason could be because of a change in odour from the people in the car (excitement as getting close) or odour in the outside environment, maybe.
Been told by many many trainers that my mal is a unicorn dog F***ING nuts for protection work but amazing around people of children (1000s of hours training since 6 weeks old like) Danny met him about 6 months old 💪....Great episode people do not stop hahah
I’d like to add that protection isn’t just against personal threat! I had a Newfoundland dog and he would rescue me from the water at every opportunity. I did end up training him, but it was most definitely his default genetic trait to watch the water and alert any danger. He did this from a matter of months old. PS. Dr Sab did you do a quick change of outfit? I’m sure I saw a yellow outfit! 🤔🤣🤣🤣
Hub trained our Mal in IPO. Tremendous dog. She has protected me real life one time. She did as she was supposed to - stood and barked, ears up, tail erect, and ready to go. She didn’t go because she wasn’t given the word to do so. We de-escalated as the person was not a threat but she was ready.
My dog will never protect me. For the first time in my life I found myself with a mouse invasion. Every time I screamed my dog watched from a safe distance on the couch with her neck stretched like ET. 🤦🏻♀️😂 Thanks, Lucy! 🙄
That’s funny you saying that i owned two Dobermann on a dark morning someone was breaking into the cricket pavilion we waked near i very carefully walk passed just as the person threw something out of the door my two dogs legged it and left me there i called the police about the burglary they came down and asked me if i had tackled the man i said please don’t think my dogs stayed around they left me there and i ran after them i am no have a go hero lol
I think some dogs are exceptional and have a natural ability to do things we cannot imagine or we would not encourage. I have experienced things with a couple of German shepherds and thought why did they do that. I think if someone shows a threatening behaviour then a dog will react naturally to a fret or someone acting out of caricature. I have been approached aggressively and my dog has responded by barking so is that just a response from a fret. I had a homeless man come at me aggressively and I went at this man and my dog stepped in. I had two young lads coming at me shouting and I started to walk away and my dog started barking. My wife had some weirdo walk up behind her and my dog wasn't having none of it and started barking. If I don't like someone my dog will keep near me and sometimes bark at them. I had a friend hit me stupidly and my dog sat in-between us and just looked at her . I've had random dogs run at me and my dog has steared them away so they don't knock me over. What is my dog doing, acting out of fear or is he genuinely looking out for me and my family. I remember my farther in-laws German shepherd who used to always keep my daughter in sight and we had some guy get in our space and said something all high pitched and creepy and that German shepherd barked at this man and his German Shepherd barked at my farther in-law when he was horrible and negative to my daughter. My father in-law is a X police dog handler and I used to look after his pet dog that was a German shepherd and she looked out for our family for some reason. She wasn't bothered by anything and she wasn't aggressive. They say some dogs were bred for perpose so why wouldn't that dog naturally protect a family member who is vunrable. I don't no but I kinda think some dogs are exceptional and naturally protective. Just questions because I don't know.
Maybe one day we’ll release the outtake reel where Jamie and Danny muck about doing impressions before the show starts - they have quite the repertoire… 😂
Out with a friends Black Lab and my Hovawart in the countryside. Approached by a guy demanding my phone. He kept approaching. Told him to back off. Dogs sensed danger. They did the business... not jaws on but enough . He thought they would calm down so at one point approached further. I told him he risked everything as I wasn't calling the dogs off. After a good few minutes the guy sloped off. I realised he might have been after my camera gear aswell. Dogs will protect you. Mine did. Police were notified of that incident and turned out they were very interested to take all details even producing photos of wanted men. Thank god I had them both that day.
It is infact true, you are stating that you know your dog is capable of aggression and will bite, you're admitting liability with this sign. As a responsible owner you need to prevent that from happening, if it does and goes to court they will use the sign against you.
@@Drainingtheswamp2022I asked 3 different police officers, one of them I actually went into police station and had a chat, and my uncle had guard dog( he owned a car scrap yard and someone broke into it dog bit him and my uncle was told he had to put dog ( gsd) on a chain so he couldn't cause harm to anyone......... As he had sign on gates saying " guard dog loose"...
@@Dayvo369 Correct, and you may also find that your insurance won’t pay out the public liability cover if you haven’t declared that you know your dog is aggressive by putting warning signs up. Better to just have signs saying ‘Dogs Loose’ not ‘Warning, guard dogs’
Literally snorted tea through my nose with Jamie’s Scooby impression 😂

Wow. Loving the science of bite work. Very interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it!

AS I HAVE HERD DANNY STATE MANY MANY MANY TIMES 90% OF DOGS WONT PROTECT THERE OWN F##KING DINNER BOWL (that line will make history with me 😂)
My German Shepherd would definitely sell me to a murderer for a piece of cheese

You break into my house and my dog would 100%.....run up tail wagging looking for love and cuddles😂 a labrador. Definitely not for protection work.
I would argue bms do. They will block a threat in fact reapinsible owners invest time in teaching them 99 .9 % of everything is nt a threat.
