Welcome to the new project, A Gen 1 #v8 #audi #r8 which has previously been owned and rallied by Mark McCann on the track in his back garden.
Originally his intention was to transform this into a off road version but after getting his Lamborghini Sterrato the project became obsolete. So now I can attempt to restore this car to its former glory and back into the supercar it is.

Yes Chris. Resto for sure, I’m looking forward to learning how it went together. So much modifying in this genre, resto sets you apart.
Chris, buying OEM brackets Vs cleaning, rust removal, blasting and powder coat is a no brainier - well worth it for piece of mind and speed
Matt armstrong just brought an R8 aswell. There should be a race at the end between both cars

I know it’s his money and he can do what he wants with his cars, but I just don’t get why Mark does it to these cars that many of us can only dream of. Chris I’d remove the brackets so you can rust treat the back/whole thing 👍 yours is my favourite car channel ❤

This is what we need a project car that shows us what we can do at home to make a car look better Chris, unfortunately many of us havent got deep pockets like Mr Armstrong, so it will be a nice change to see this project 👍😁👍

Shame it was in such a bad state before you bought it,but i know it will look mint when you're done. All the best & get well too (didn't really notice till the message came up the end) 👍🏻
So pleased you are putting it back to standard. As you say, there are so many modified examples about, for once it will be unusual for it to be as Audi intended 😌
Chris. thanks for all your videos. Really appreciated. Others may have said but worth checking the feeds to the oil cooler in front of the passenger side rear wheel arch - they corrode and leak and if they let go can cause oil starvation. Also, as this car may have had a hard life, worth checking the frame for cracks under the windscreen skuttle - there are repair kits if needs be.. Look forward to the next one.
Nice video, agree with how to treat this car and enjoyed watching the little bits being refurbished, general cleaning etc.

i like it. Theres always the temptation to wack a great stonking spoiler on it... but in many ways for the older cars restoring them to stock is just as satisfying. Less is definitely more in this case. Personally i would maybe replace some parts on the engine, maybe have the engine tuned a little. not going mental just making sure it was similar to brand new. overall i love it! and cant wait to see it on the next road trip
12:28 yes i think it the same way. Non modified supras for example are worth more than modded ones

If you have small parts with rust on them, try boiling them in plain water, and the brush it with a copper brush when dry, and then treat with a rust converter.

@Chris_Slix if it's something as easy as a simple bracket look for original new one. Might be cheaper than the time and effort in making them look good / getting then blasted and coated.

Go back and take a wire wheel to those rusty brackets and a can of spray paint and do a better job. If your going for quality OEM those bits will make a difference, Don't cut corners. Good watch though, will be following to see the results 👍
Looking forward to the build,definitely keep it original but if you want it to be the best it can be then change those little things like rusty brackets 👌🏽
My 14 y/o son and I are doing the same effort in our 2012 Ferrari 458 spider rebuild. Get it back to its condition it left the factory !! That means scrubbing every bolt and making it one of the cleanest rebuilds. Looking forward to watching your project

You should go OEM+ a few subtle mods
really appreciate you going stock. there is something about restoring a car to the initial look
100K Subs soon come Chris!... Loving this, didn't see it coming, who doesn't love/want an R8! I think defo rebuild as the cleanest OG version you can....OEM+ is the way forward, subtle mods that replace decade old tech etc to make the car better without making it look/sound/drive like a Max Power reject.

When these first came out I was working at a ladies house, she had one. She said her husband bought it for her but she didn’t like driving it because it was too fast for her and folk took photos of it every time she stopped somewhere.
Definitely a future, if not already a classic.

Definitely go for a debugged stock spec and no stupid loud exhaust.
Skinny's world has the R8 and everyone keeps telling him to add a supercharger (DDE lol) I love these cars, I think they're a good 'super car's for ppl that cant afford super cars normal costs n prices 😊

I would recommend spending the money on a sandblaster then to remove the brackets if not bilt hamper does a product where you mix the product with water then place your brackets etc in them and it removes rust, they also do a gel that you can apply. Defiantly worth it.
This should be interesting, as a follower of REPerformance as well I reckon this’ll break you financially.
