- This video has been a long time coming...The Audi R8 (IMO) is one of the most beautiful cars Audi has ever produced. However, the stock or OEM exhaust left a lot to be desired. Today's episode is a behind the scene look at what I wanted from a custom exhaust and how it was ultimately fabricated at SOUL Performance Products in Willow Grove, PA. Hope you enjoy! -Larry

@@landontrevor thank you for asking. Not at this time. We are looking at scaling the muffler production to make it more feasible across the board.
This channel is better than any TH-cam channel, tv show, movie, and documentary.

Man Larry this very well could be the perfect exhaust for this car!! Makes the R8 sound like a monster!! So great, and without drone etc, I can say from my own experience how key this is for long trips and coming home. Nicely done, Soul clearly does very cool work. Amazing.

The phone is upside down during the stock readings and right side up during the custom readings...hence the much larger difference between the two meters at idle. You're welcome ;)

@@AMMO-NYC the right way, because the mic (where it measures the sound) is in the buttom. so the SOUL clip reads false
@@AMMO-NYC To be honest the main problem with the pressure differences between those devices is the measure set up. The iPhone app measure the sound in dB Z (with Z frequency weighting, used for "flat" frequency response from 10 kHz to 20 kHz) and the noise dosimeter measure it in dB A (with A frequency weighting, similar to human perception). Larry, on the right side of the app screen you can find a slider with letters to change that :) Some basic info can be found here: www.cirrusresearch.co.uk/blog/2011/08/what-are-a-c-z-frequency-weightings/. A solid description of an A class nutting
I knew someone who talked up the open/closed exhaust they'd eventually get on their project car. I asked them what the practical point was: would it help them make more power or be more efficient? Gotta say, your video answered questions they didn't, and the sound YOU got out of your exhaust is almost worth no performance change lol. thanks for the videos as always Larry. Wish we'd see more like this in your newer retinue.

Love the R8.. and the valve idea for tuning the sound is a great idea. The exhaust on my car is great with the silencer on it but too loud through the neighborhood wide open. Man that new exhaust looks clean af and 20 pounds lighter! That's awesome. Sounding great man wide open sounds SO mean :D

Larry is such a nerd and I love it! Most Rubes on TH-cam wouldn't use a decibel meter and professional sound recorder for a new exhaust. Also Love the exhaust work but does anybody else think the cut out valve setup is unnecessarily complicated? Garage door opener, pickup a signal to an electronic controller which diverts some vacuum from the vacuum lines?? That's almost Rube Goldberg in design. I assume there's not an easier way to integrate?
