The R8 is an absolute piece of art. The aftermarket rear wing was a horrible decision.

There was an R8 V12 TDi concept car back in the day, it was essentially production-ready yet never saw production. But the engine found its way into a Q7. You should be the one to reunite the two, now that you have one piece of the puzzle.

How you're going shoehorn a V12 from a FE Q7 into a ME R8 will be a challenge of itself, unless you have the build specs of that concept.

It wasn't production ready, Clarkson tested it and was told not to push it as the gearbox was out of an a4 or something and basically wasn't strong enough

I always love to watch your project cars and Im so happy you managed to find an R8, I’ve always loved the R8 and it is easily my dream car. It will be really cool to watch you clean it up and give it away to a very very lucky person.
I know a ton about the R8 being a previous owner. The seats come from the TT ( as are a lot of the interior bits, disappointingly ) and they do wear like what is seen in the video really fast. I had to have mine replaced in the 1st year under warranty for excessive wear. Jack is dead on about the paint, the R8 has some of the most meticulously done paint in the industry. The entire process is quite involved and the results are very good. Remember, these cars are all hand built in the Nekarsulm factory and the people that build these are all veteran Audi techs, not just some randos to fill space on a production line. When you are having one built, you can actually track what phase of production it's in and they can tell you who the last person to touch it was. You alluding to the R8 taking "a while" to reach its top speed is absolutely false. Especially on the V10 like I had. (which was the same Daytona Grey as the V10 at the end)
The bright side is you should be able to get half decent replacements fairly cheap
the mk1 v8 takes more than a minute to reach 186mph so if it ever gets to 190 its going to be a pretty long wait

That rear wing/mesh is primary for the cooling of the exhaust, possibly partly for some aero flow stuff. Exhaust is directly below.
And it rises automatically at 100km/h and lowers below 50km/h. Or with the button.
The R8 has always been a dream car of mine. During the pandemic these were a steal for $40k. Prices have skyrocketed since. Excited for this build!
Don't worry, during the recession they will drop again, just hold your horses.

Just wanted to start by saying how much my husband and I love both of your TH-cam channels. We found your channel through ed bolian’s vinwiki channel and subsequent cartrek series. We were watching the pebble beach/Monterey car week cartreck episode, since we have lived in Monterey for 20 years, was pretty cool to see. You guys were parked in front of the Monterey plaza hotel and then it hit me. I know that guy! You were in your beautiful blue McLaren, as I was walking by you said “Hi, how are you doing?” I said hello, I’m ok, beautiful car! Maybe you remember? I thought you were Vin diesel!( now to my husbands great amusement) I was in a tough spot at that point in my life, living basically hand to mouth, looking scruffy and dirty and wearing a big backpack. My husband was stuck down in LA working for LA county fire dept. at the time, so things were pretty tough. I thought how some big shot(you) was kind enough to take the time to say hello to someone who looked so down and disheveled.
Funnily enough, I was on my to try and save this 2002 Audi TT quattro turbo that a friend had given me, with no keys I may add. As my love of cars is lifelong( first car was a 72 Charger 440 r/t that my dad and I rebuilt out of a junkyard) I walked every free day I had to try and get this car going. When we finally had enough money to get a new key made by Audi, 400$+, Monterey had towed the car and we were pretty much shit outta luck.
The Audi R8 has been a dream car for me since I first saw one driving through pebble beach. When I tried to describe it to my husband(another life long car but-he went to art academy of San Francisco for automotive design and engineering) he was so frustrated about not knowing what I described to him! He finally figured out it was the R8 after we saw a new TTrs and I said that it looked like the TT’s big brother.
Any way I saw your true character and the person you are after watching the pimp my ride van videos you gave your babysitter. I hope to be considered for your R8 giveaway, we’d give it a great home and garage and will be loved and cherished for the rest of its days! But just to know you remembered saying hi to me in Monterey would bring a smile to my face. You have two endearing fans for life, keep up the good work and wrench everyday!

Omg no pls. The v8 in this car is awesome and fairly underrated, these ones are rarer than the v10 variant
putting the 5.2 V10 in is not just a drop in. its going to be a project unless he's going to use the car at the end as a donor. the side blades and some of the rear substructure is all different from the 4.8 V8 model. Thats just for starters.

Gearbox is great with its single clutch, just like a VW UP! I spent time trying to teach new UP owners how to Auto do they didn't get sick on the change!!

I remember seeing my first R8 in 2007. I thought they were the coolest car that Audi ever did and it became a game to try to find them. I would love to have a car like that, even with all those headaches as it sits. Can't wait to see the finished product
