Yes, we need to support our local farmers to eliminate the middlemen like Asda and Tesco. I don't mind the big stores, but they keep pushing their luck with pricing - upping the selling price while lowering the cost price... and the poor farmers have no say in it.

    • @Matt19matt19
      @Matt19matt19 ปีที่แล้ว +8

It's because they know the customer is currently in a state of expecting price rises. So even if they don't need to raise the price they will knowing that the customer is less likely to question it these days. They'll just grumble and pay it. It's got to a stage now that the butcher is often the same price for a superior product as a supermarket.

And the trouble is that when inflation _does_ start to fall, the main supermarkets in particular will hold on to the high prices for as long as possible.

Don't buy much fresh meat from supermarkets now. Butchers are far superior quality. My local does butterflied marinaded chicken breast. It's really nice. When I compared prices to my local supermarket the stuff from the butchers worked out pretty much the same price per kg as the similar stuff supermarkets sell. If anything it was cheaper for the butchers stuff as you weren't paying for the water that supermarkets inject into the chicken. Plus going to the butchers is a much more pleasurable experience. We've got a few farm shops where I live so I'll have to check them out and see what they have. Pies give me heartburn 😂

@@grahamjohnson4702 what's salt water then? It's still water. And it's usually literally put on the bag "with added water". Sometimes as much as 20% of the product will be a solution of water, salt and dextrose. Often when you're cooking it the chicken ends up boiling because of all the water coming out of it. It's pointless to buy chicken breast from a supermarket pre marinaded because once the water comes out the chicken it dilutes the flavour. I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve with your comment besides looking pedantic suggesting salt water isn't water.

Those pies really look delicious. I used to be able to buy fresh eggs from the farm gate until bird flu really took its toll. The lady lost several chickens. But she was asking only £1.20 for six, also for large or very large eggs like you got from Browns. Recently I've had to buy eggs from Aldi or Lidl.

Considering the price, size and fillings from what you get in a bakers shop, around £1.80-£2 these pies are well worth the price of £2.30 in my opinion. Large looking pies and chunky fillings. The eggs are sensibly priced too. I'd try the shop if I wasn't so far away in Northumberland. Good Vlog, thank you 😀👍

I recently serviced a coffee machine in a coffee shop at a farm shop/deli near Melton Mowbray ( Manor House Farm Shop ) and after the job I nipped into the deli and bought pork sausages made with meat from their farm and scotch eggs, bacon, it was a bit more expensive than the supermarket but the quality was outstanding !! I think it's worth paying the extra sometimes. Installed another coffee machine last week at Oakland & Son in Kegworth, near East Midlands airport, the deli nosh is to die for there too, home made humoungous chicken tikka samosas and 30 day matured steak, oh my gosh !!!

Another reason to support your local farm shop ☺️ I totally agree about the the big stores and their prices and not only food. I went to Asda at South Shields the other day and parked in disabled bay with my blue badge no problems and today got a £70 parking eye ticket through the door. I can do without it when im struggling on basic state pension.
Won't be going there again so I'll find a farm shop with good prices, lovely people and no parking tickets.

If more folk bought them they would be able to sell them cheaper - the supermarkets have a lot to answer for! Aye, you might get a pack of for steak pies for two quid in Asda but you'd struggle to find any meat in them and the meat you do find is always gristly. So sad that folk have to choose the cheap option in these times. Keep up the good work pal. Per ardua ad astra.

In fact I would say that there was double the amount of filling compared to a store bought pie. So yes for me that is good value, with great quality. In my humble opinion, this review hits into one my top 3 reviews you have done. As for the eggs? £1.70 is a good price. My local Co Op charges more than that. As for the shell having some poo on it? I remember when I was a kid. My mum would buy eggs with poo and feathers on the shell and she kept a nail brush in the kitchen to scrub them all clean. Great review mate 👍.

There's a Butchers in a wee town called Frodsham in Cheshire, near Warrington, called Cowards, who make the most amazing pork & other pies and ma-hoosive sausage rolls which are all to die for.
    Om nom nom.

Hi there, another fantastic video from you like always. Really great to see you get out to a farm shop and it is good to support local myself and my business partner run a farm stand or self. What is a small farm stand with all local veg eggs and fresh, baked bread and a lot more other things as well so I do agree support local. We support all our local farmers in our area who supply us with stuff for our farmstand and that is what our new business was when I said we was busy with our new business, so it worked in well with this comment Keep up the good work like always, and very interesting to watch your videos

No farms near me but when ever farmers market comes to town, i stock up. You can taste the difference. Packed with meat , tasty bacon.. proper cheese. No nasty additives

Just so up know, we love all that you do, whether its some kind of food review in your kitchen or a ride out to a farm shop or chippy in your area, Id love to see you do pie mushy peas and chips from a local chip shop. I think at some point you wont be embaresed to take that camera in the shop and record. We just love tuning in most nights to watch you for 15 minutes, or even a Friday night special. Thanks again.

I'd rather have less and eat quality anyday. Next year I'm travelling the UK as part of my bucket list and a visit to the farm shop will be added 😊

SUPPORT LOCAL INDUSTRY AND LOCAL FARMERS IN PARTICULAR even if it does cost more than at supermarkets. When local produce disappears the supermarket prices will jump up further.

Ah I’m jealous! I live in the welsh valleys so there’s bound to be loads of farm shops but I don’t drive and there aren’t any local enough to get to!

Don't any of them come round with a van? We live in a village in Spain and we get the best bread ever from a van that comes every morning and we get fabulous cheese from sheep's' milk also from a van that comes by once a fortnight. New laid eggs, bacon, ham, oranges, lemons, victoria plums, greengages, apricots all in season without walking more than 50 yards.
